Question:	What have you put under it (to prevent bathroom accidents in your vehicle) during transportation
Answer:	I never transported an animal in it but I would think a heavy duty trash (approx 32 gal) around it with the top not tied would be sufficient.
Question:	why bait tray tripped, bait gone, no catch
Answer:	Depends on bait.... Birds and rats can get in and out without tripping the trap! I had to bend the wire at the top hook where it lockcs and it works fine. I always test it when I leave it. I have caught 12 Racoons...3 feral cats...and one neighbors trap. I have had the best luck with Fried Chicken left over bones, Marchmallows, and Reeses Peanut Butter cups.What amazies me is if caught with a couple of chicken bones as bait when I go to get the trap the Coon has eaten the entire bone.
Question:	What's the difference between "Havahart 1079 Live Animal Professional-Style One-Door Raccoon, Groundhog, Opossum, and Stray Cat..." and Havahart
Answer:	The only difference is that in the 1089, when you lift the handle, it automatically sets the trap or locks the door for the animal you are trying to catch. In the 1079, which I bought, you set the trap manually. I like being able to get the bait inside and every thing done before I set the spring on the door. I don't want my arm cought in it trying to get the bait set. If you are trying to catch raccoons, you will also need something to stabilize the cage. You would be surprised how a caccoon can roll the cage. Sue
Question:	What are the dimensions? I have a cat trap built the same way but i am afraid the raccoon might be too big for it
Answer:	That will depend upon the raccoon in question. I've caught a lot of woodchucks, opossum, squirrels, the occasional bird, and a skunk in my 1079 but have been having mixed results with a current raccoon problem--raccoons got into an attic. I caught a medium sized one right away and another a few days later. Unfortunately the second one flipped the trap over which released the gravity lock and it was able to escape. After that I wired the trap to the roof framing so it couldn't be moved and they attacked the trap from the outside to get the bait... they even pulled the trigger rod out of the trap! I ordered a Havahart 1081 (15x15x42) recently and it arrived Wednesday. I set it Thursday evening and caught a huge raccoon overnight. I had that new trap wired to the roof framing also and covered the floor of the trap and pan with a piece of carpet that was in the attic. Some sardines (in a tin that was opened just a crack) was placed near the pan and away from the end and sides so the raccoons couldn't reach it. Regarding the it depends aspect... How big is the raccoon you are after in reality. If it is truly a large one get a bigger trap and I think you'll have better luck.

Step 1: Choose and Place Bait

Question:	Does this work to catch cottontail bunnies
Answer:	I purchased this one to catch chipmunks; works perfect; for bunnies, it's probably too small; there is only 10 inches from the door to the trigger they have to step on; maybe real small rabbits, but overall, I would say don't trust it for rabbits; you need next size larger.
Question:	Is this trap large enough for grey squirrels
Answer:	I have caught 5 grey squirrels in less than 24 hrs with this trap, several of which were quite large. I used peanuts as bait. This, by far, has been the most effective trap to catch grey squirrels.

Answer:	It's about 16" X 6" X 6.5". Perfect size for one squirrel.
Question:	I have a rat who is only attracted to Pepsi - can I put a bowl of this in the cage
Answer:	A bowl would be to large and might block the trip mechanism. You could use a large cap off a bottle or one of those small plastic cups that fruit or pudding comes in filled with Pepsi. Balancing one of those on the trip plate so when the rat goes for a drink should work to catch your addict.

Chipmunks

Use peanut butter to 'glue' sunflower seeds, corn or raisins to the trigger plate of your chipmunk trap, then place it near the chipmunk burrow, under bushes they hide in or under a shed or similar structure.

Rats

Try a variety of food in your trap, including bacon, peanut butter or nuts. Place the rat trap near walls, wires or other pathways you believe the rats use. If you see rat droppings or gnaw marks, you’ve found the right spot.

Squirrels

The baits squirrels love match most other small animals – peanut butter, nuts, apple slices and grains. Place the trap where squirrels are active, but away from other food sources, such as a bird feeder.

Voles

These mouse-like animals have a small range, so place your trap within that territory. Bait with apple slices, nuts, sunflower seeds or gum drops. You can 'glue' those items in place with peanut butter.

Step 1: Baiting

Often times, it’s easier to bait the trap before setting it and placing it. For most animals, you can apply peanut butter to the trigger plate and add some supplementary item to it as further incentive to the target animal.

Step 2: Placement

Your trap should be placed where there’s evidence of the pest animal’s activity. In particular, try to place it near its nest and in any areas where it might normally find food. Remove all other food sources, if possible.

Step 3: Release

After the capture, try to make the animal as comfortable as possible. Cover the trap with a towel, and release the animal at least 2 miles away. Be sure to check your local catch-and-release laws before trapping.
