Answer:	We are talking of the gasket between the two halves of the filter. It is merely set between them with only a silicon lubricate for a proper seal. As such you should be able to just lift the ring out in one piece. If the ring has degraded so much you may have to scrape it out but be careful not to score the halves of the filter.
