Answer:	Yes . This is one of the intended uses :) Just please note it's for TDS (Total Dissolved Solids), not for pH. In hydroponics applications, a ppm meter such as this one is used to determine your nutrient count.

This TDS meter is pre-calibrated in factory, no need calibrate again by customer, we do this to prevent as many calibration related mistakes as possible, and it's easier to use. To maintain the accuracy, it's better to rinse the probe with distilled water after each use. For your mentioned distilled water, it should read 0 ppm theoretically, but in actual application, if you can't keep test condition very clean, it may read 0-2ppm usually.

Answer:	No, it test for TDS in PPM (parts per million). The reading is taken from the EC reading and converted within the unit to TDS. This is the accumulation of all dissolved solids in your water. But what conversion factor is used by this company? A 5.0 conversion will have different reading than one with a 7.1 conversion factor. Makes a difference. Learning to read EC is best option along with a tester that reads EC and PPM. No calibration on some. To test your pH you can use the paper strips, General Hydroponics sells a pH Test Kit that includes testing solution along with pH Up and pH down for adjusting your pH to your requirements if you are into gardening. Very fast and easy to use. There are a number of pH test pens on the market. Most need calibration and calibration solutions that is a consumable. There are different calibration factors on these as well. But easier to use and more accurate once you learn it.
Question:	At what reading should the filter/cartridge be changed
Answer:	Your filter and cartridge should be change every 30 days , if your ppm reading over 300 you may need do some water change , also test for nitrite , nitrate and ammonia . under 300 ppm you are OK , should be around 150 ppm to 250 ppm , but not over 400 ppm . usually do 10% water change every month or twice a month depend on how many fishes or shrimps you have. Question:	Is there a minimum amount of water that can be tested
Answer:	I just put some water in a cup and put end of TDS gauge in, no more than inch. By the way, the best water will test 0. I use a zero water pitcher. I use this to check if new filter is needed. I hope this helped you.
Question:	What is the accuracy of this tester
Answer:	Can’t say for sure. Howerver, the first time I used it, the number I was getting from an old RO membrane were 350ish. I thought for sure the meter was in error. I then opened a bottle of filtered water and tested that. The bottled water reading was 12 so I think the meter is very accurate. I have since replaced the RO membrane and my numbers are in the high 20s to low 30s. I hope this helps. I would highly recommend this tester - it’s a great buy.

Question:	For the manufacturer - is one single drop from the dropper directly onto the test pad (one for each) a sufficient amount of water to test the levels
Answer:	Yes, one drop for each pad is sufficient. Please rinse the dropper 2-3 times with the testing water before using (just suck the water in and squeeze it out). This is to clean/prepare the dropper. The other thing is, we use special coat on each testing pad to avoid water running from pad to pad, and you can see the water drop is contained within each pad. If you find it is not easy to read the colour with excess water, you can gently shake off the excess water on the strip, AFTER waiting for 30 seconds so the colours have fully developed. Answer:	No, it doesn't measure individual contents of the water it just tells you the total amount of everything in the water in ppm. It is only for a basic measurement of how pure water is, ie for car washing etc.

1.Find three clean containers and fill 250ml distilled water in each container.

2.Empty 6.86 in first container,4.00 in second container and 9.18 in third container.

So what does a TDS meter detect?The term TDS, total dissolved solids, is slightly misleading. Not everything that is dissolved in water will be detected by a TDS meter. Only ions that have a charge can be measured with this technology. Pesticides and organic pollutants cannot be detected by a TDS meter. About AMMONIA - Science alert!The TDS meter will detect the ammonium in the water, but it is not possible to use TDS in place of a real ammonia test kit.Ammonia exists in two forms at the same time. Ammonia is NH3 and has no charge. Ammonium is NH4+ and has a charge. In water both forms of "ammonia" are present. Test strips measure both forms and report the level as a sum of both. Some kits call it Total Ammonia and some just call it ammonia. The test kits cannot distinguish between the two-the kits just total it up. I can explain how they do that but not in this message :)In acidic water nearly all of the "ammonia" is in the ammonium form. As the pH rises, some of the ammonium shifts to ammonia. Calibration:

1. Turn on the pH meter.

2. Dissolve each buffer solution in 250 ml of distilled water.

3. Immerse the electrode into the pH 6.86 solution (under the temperature of 25℃).

Answer:	No it can't. It doesn't detect specific elements or chemicals. Though the way calcium, lead, and collodial silver may dissolve would effect the numerical value of TDS and if you knew that in 100 ml of 45 deg Celsius water would only hold X# ppm of an element you might be able to figure it out based on the numerical value shown.
Question:	What temperature was this device calibrated at? I noticed that readings vary with temperature. How do I get a consistent reading
Answer:	FROM HM DIGITAL: The TDS-EZ was calibrated at 25 degrees Celsius (77F), but more importantly, the TDS-EZ is one of HM Digital's most basic meters and does not have Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC). Therefore, since it does not have ATC, you will see discrepancies when testing hotter or colder from the baseline of 25C/77F.If your water is typically around this temperature, it won't be much of a difference, but if +/-10 degrees or more from 25C/77F, it's a good idea to get a meter with ATC, such as HM Digital's TDS-3, TDS-4, AP-1, COM-80 or COM-100.
