Drinking water test kits are products related to test strips, chemicals for water testing, and cleaning tools and chemicals. They are used to assess the quality of drinking water to ensure it is safe for consumption. These kits are relevant to various applications, including monitoring water quality in pools, hot tubs, and other water sources in the patio and garden. Here's what you should know about drinking water test kits:

  1. Purpose: Drinking water test kits are designed to detect and measure specific parameters or contaminants in drinking water.Common tests include assessing pH levels, chlorine levels, hardness, and the presence of potentially harmful substances like bacteria, lead, arsenic, or nitrates.

  2. Types of Test Kits:

    • Chemical Test Kits: These kits typically use chemical reagents and color-coded test strips or vials to determine the concentration of specific substances in water. For example, pH test strips change color to indicate the water's acidity or alkalinity.

    • Microbiological Test Kits: These kits are designed to detect the presence of microorganisms such as bacteria or coliforms, which can indicate contamination.

    • Electronic Test Kits: Some advanced kits use electronic meters to provide more precise measurements of parameters like pH, TDS (Total Dissolved Solids), or chlorine levels.

  3. Common Tests and Parameters:

    • pH Levels: pH testing helps determine whether the water is acidic, neutral, or alkaline, which can affect its taste and safety.
    • Chlorine Levels: Measuring chlorine levels is crucial in maintaining safe swimming pool or hot tub water.
    • Hardness: Assessing water hardness helps prevent scale buildup in appliances and plumbing.
    • Bacteria and Contaminant Tests: These kits are essential for ensuring that drinking water is free from harmful pathogens and contaminants.
  4. Application: Drinking water test kits are used in various settings, including homes, swimming pools, hot tubs, and garden water sources. They are especially important in regions with well water, where water quality may vary.

  5. Interpretation of Results: Test kit instructions provide guidance on interpreting results and, in some cases, recommend corrective actions if water quality is outside acceptable limits.

  6. Regular Testing: Regular water testing is essential, especially for private well owners or pool and hot tub owners, to ensure water quality remains safe and within the desired parameters.

  7. Safety Precautions: When handling chemicals and test equipment, it's important to follow safety precautions outlined in the kit's instructions to prevent accidents and contamination.

  8. Availability: Drinking water test kits are available from various manufacturers and can be found in hardware stores, home improvement centers, and online retailers.

In summary, drinking water test kits are valuable tools for assessing the quality of drinking water, especially in settings like homes with private wells, pools, hot tubs, and garden water sources. They help ensure water safety and provide peace of mind by detecting and monitoring specific water parameters and contaminants.

User questions & answers

Question: what is the range for testing iron
Answer: The test range is between 0.0 and 5.0 ppm
Question: can this test spring water
Answer: Hi, I think you should be able to test your Spring water with it. It's not as accruate as a lab test. We used it to test tthhe water and make sure it was ok for our livestock.
Question: What are the indicators/results to suggest the well water is : (1) safe to drink, (2) safe to shower in/wash hands, (3) safe on washing clothes
Answer: We followed all the instructions and test indicators with ease of instructions. I don't remember what all the test were but it covered most of what was the most important of chemicals and bacteria. All the test came back safe for 0 nitrates, bacteria harmful to drink, etc. I would feel safe to shower/wash hands and to wash clothes in. We only used it to drink and wash our hands as it was put up at a lake. I would recommend that water not be stored and changed daily as we left the test water alone for 4 days further than it asked for and it did grow organisms as the chlorine is not there to kill them. However, drinking it fresh daily we never became sick and the water was perfect!! I am going to send a sample off to the state level for curiosity but I feel safe drinking what we draw from the well. I hope this helps.
Question: How many times can I repeat the test? Is it one time use only
Answer: This test kit can only be used once.

The Water Quality Test Even Government and Water Municipalities Recommend You Use. Regularly.

This isn’t just for peace of mind, this is your physical health and well-being. Time and time again, water systems we have come to trust allow polluted water to flow freely into homes causing disease and chronic health problems. Since children and pets are the most sensitive to contaminants, with sometimes devastating results, this can heighten the need for testing. Testing gives you the power of knowledge, and it costs only 24.95.

Environment

Aging water systems, contaminated runoff that introduces human and animal waste, and industrial chemicals are just three of the actors influencing drinking water quality—and the impact is growing greater every day. Chemical spills, toxic substances, people living more densely; the depth of the problem is yet to be fully realized.

Government

These days, most government officials agree that it’s nearly impossible to completely avoid contaminated drinking water. The biggest questions are which chemicals, and to what degree. The fact that both information and management of these systems are controlled by people in politics is a disturbing factor.

Well Water, Too

Rural areas that receive their water from wells contain some of the most contaminated water sources. Microorganisms and toxic chemicals seep into water supplies. People are advised to use a well water testing kit regularly, as new contaminants invade groundwater with little to no oversight or enforcement.

Pittsburgh Downplays the Threat of Lead-Contaminated Drinking Water.

In 2017, the Water and Sewer Authority in Pittsburgh issued a warning for residents to boil their drinking water first, even for brushing teeth and washing dishes. City officials are accused of misleading residents as to the risk.

Flint Michigan’s Drinking Water Harms Children.

In 2018, when 57 of 86 Detroit public schools tested positive for elevated levels of lead, the government confirmed that children could suffer permanent brain damage, which often results in learning disabilities and violent behavior.

Lead-Contamination in Milwaukee’s Drinking Water Since 2015 Continues.

From 2015 to 2017 the children of families living in Milwaukee were testing positive for elevated levels of lead. Even after the health commissioner resigned for failing to notify the community of the risk, the “serious failure” persists.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this test for Ferric or Ferrous iron
Answer: Yes, the strip can test for Ferrous iron.
Question: For the manufacturer - is one single drop from the dropper directly onto the test pad (one for each) a sufficient amount of water to test the levels
Answer: Yes, one drop for each pad is sufficient. Please rinse the dropper 2-3 times with the testing water before using (just suck the water in and squeeze it out). This is to clean/prepare the dropper. The other thing is, we use special coat on each testing pad to avoid water running from pad to pad, and you can see the water drop is contained within each pad. If you find it is not easy to read the colour with excess water, you can gently shake off the excess water on the strip, AFTER waiting for 30 seconds so the colours have fully developed. If you need further support, send us a message or email, we can send you some demonstration videos or pictures.
Question: How do I get the ebook? Is there a link
Answer: Hi, if you purchased our test kit before 8/Mar/2020, we have sent the eBook through Amazon message system. If you ordered after 8/Mar/2020, there is a card included in the package with instruction of how to get the eBook. If you don't get your eBook by either of ways mentioned, please send us an email or contact us through Amazon message. Best regards, Anna from SJ Wave
Question: Does the free chlorine testing pad on this tester react to chlorine dioxide
Answer: Yes. Our test kit can test the free chlorine if you use the chlorine dioxide to treat your water.

User questions & answers

Question: Can I use this ppm meter for hydroponics
Answer: Yes . This is one of the intended uses :) Just please note it's for TDS (Total Dissolved Solids), not for pH. In hydroponics applications, a ppm meter such as this one is used to determine your nutrient count.
Question: how can i test if the unit is accurate could i use distilled which i assume should be zero, thanks tom
Answer: Thanks for your question. This TDS meter is pre-calibrated in factory, no need calibrate again by customer, we do this to prevent as many calibration related mistakes as possible, and it's easier to use. To maintain the accuracy, it's better to rinse the probe with distilled water after each use. For your mentioned distilled water, it should read 0 ppm theoretically, but in actual application, if you can't keep test condition very clean, it may read 0-2ppm usually.
Question: Can this also check for ph
Answer: It Does not. It measure TDS , EC and Temperature 3 in 1. PH Meter is another tester.
Question: What kind of battery does it have
Answer: 1 x 3V button battery CR2032 , it's included in the water tester. Sincerely hope you enjoy the products we sell on Amazon!

User questions & answers

Question: Is there a seperate test for each element
Answer: Most of the tests require single test strips. pH, hardness and alkalinity are on a single test strip.
Question: Turned yellow & horrible disgusting smell coming from bottle that was tightly screwed
Answer: Correction! IF you kept the bottle for LONGER than 48 hours it will eventually turn yellow. IF the bottle remained purple up to 48 hours, the water is not contaminated. A yellow color, along with odor IS possible if you keep the jar LONGER than 48 hours. This is caused by the break-down of the nutrients in the jar. It does not indicate coliform if you keep the bottle longer than 48 hours.
Question: Does this test for salmonela? Our well may be fouled after a recent flood
Answer: No. The bacteria test only detects coliform bacteria. Only a lab can test for Salmonella.
Question: Does this test for lead
Answer: No. But this test kit does include a lead test. Here is the Amazon link. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N5K7LR3/?tag=jameslaytonco-20

FIND OUT WHAT’S IN YOUR WELL WATER IN MINUTES

You don’t need a science degree or a lab to test your water source with this kit. The included tests are simple enough for anyone to use at home, and most of the results will be ready within a few minutes.

Simply compare the obtained results to the color-coded card to check the levels for the major contaminants.

We’ll also email you a free user guide to help you make sense of the results and work out how to keep your water clean.

COMPREHENSIVE RESULTS FOR 8 WELL WATER PARAMETERS

Test for 8 different contaminants and important water parameters, which are linked to serious illness, plumbing problems (such as pipe corrosion), hardness and limescale buildup, awful tasting, smelling or looking water, and more.

WHAT'S IN THE BOX

  • 1 x Bacteria / Coliform Test
  • 2 x Nitrate & Nitrite
  • 2 x Manganese
  • 2 x Hydrogen Sulfide
  • 2 x 3-Way Test (Total Alkalinity, Total Hardness, pH)

MADE IN THE USA ACCORDING TO EPA LIMITS

Getting water from a private well shouldn’t mean sacrificing your health. Private water sources aren’t federally-regulated, but can still be easily tested without the help of a professional.

We make every test kit in the USA and calibrate it to official EPA standards, making the results easy to compare and act upon accordingly.

Although testing once per year can be enough for deep wells, it's recommended to test seasonally (or sometimes more) to ensure the safety of your water.

User questions & answers

Question: Can this be used to test pool water
Answer: We used it on our tap water to see if our sink/shower water was normal. I would think that the chlorine would affect it if you have a standard pool. Not sure about salt water pools though. Below is a link that may help depending where you livehttps://www.portlandoregon.gov/water/article/622113
Question: what makes water smell fishy
Answer: A fishy smell can be caused by naturally occurring organic material in the earth like Barium or Cadmium metals. Chloramine is a compound of chlorine and ammonia used to disinfect public water sources. Unfortunately, it can cause an unwanted fishy odor in your water.
Question: what is the method of testing for the hydrogen sulfide in the water sample? I read that it was simply to smell your water
Answer: Laboratory tests for both iron bacteria and hydrogen sulfide can be expensive and are not DIY tests. The smell/observation tests included in the LabTech Plus kit that have the user both smell and observe the water samples are a true screening tests. Most people do not know what is causing the 'rotten egg' smell in their water supply. Although both Iron Bacteria and Hydrogen Sulfide can both cause the undesirable smell, the remediation is very different.
Question: How many uses does the deluxe kit provide? I wish to check my water unfiltered and filtered. Can I get at least these 2 uses from it
Answer: The H2O OK Plus Complete Water Analysis Kit contains 2 tests each for Total Chlorine, Total Hardness, Iron, pH Level, Total Alkalinity, Copper, Iron Bacteria, Nitrates, Nitrites, and Hydrogen Sulfide. The kit also contains 1 test each for Lead, Total Coliform Bacteria, and Pesticides.

How safe is your family water supply?

Most people at one time or another question the safety of the water supply that they rely upon every day in their homes. Whether you live in the country with your own well or use city supplied water, unwanted chemicals and other contaminates can be present in your water supply.

Contaminants

Contaminants can be present in home water because of faulty plumbing, chemicals and fertilizers leaching into groundwater supplies, run-off from agricultural processes, drug contamination, flooding and chemical water treatment processes. In areas where hydrofracking is utilized, groundwater contamination is also a major homeowner concern.

Animal Health

Contaminated water can make your pets sick. Many of the human health conditions caused by unwanted water conditions also affect your pets. For example excessive levels of chlorine in your pet’s drinking water may cause increased risk of cancer. Some conditions cause dry skin and even impaired alertness. Test your water to be sure you are not harming your pets.

Nobody puts baby in untested water

If you’re concerned about your pet’s health, what about your family’s? Would you bathe your child in untested water? Isn’t it worth knowing for sure that your water supply is safe and secure for your family’s well-being? Of course it is.

  • ✅ A SIMPLE, ACCURATE AND LOW-COST WAY to screen your water for the presence of potentially harmful contaminants.
  • ✅ MADE IN THE USA IN LINE WITH OFFICIAL EPA LIMITS - Compare your results with EPA-approved guidelines for drinking water quality. Don't rely on Chinese-made "bulk" strip kits, these are often merely wastewater tests with unapproved and unsafe Lead, Iron, and Copper readings.
  • ✅ COMPREHENSIVE TESTING FOR PEACE OF MIND - Not only does this test kit detect even the smallest amounts of Lead and Copper, it also tests for Bacteria and other crucial water quality parameters. Having unbalanced levels of Chlorine, Hardness, pH, Alkalinity, Nitrate or Nitrite can indicate serious issues.
  • ✅ NO SCIENCE DEGREE AND NO MAILING REQUIRED - This home water-testing kit is simple enough for anyone to use with zero expertise or equipment. Get your results quickly and easily - whether it’s from a tap, well, municipal, or spring. Just follow the included step-by-step instructions.
  • ✅ HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS SAVED ON LAB TESTS - Let’s be honest, most of us don’t test every 6 months like recommended. Testing separately for every element at a laboratory would cost stupid amounts of money. This kit makes it possible to find out what’s in your water without breaking the bank.

Question: In the Bacteria Check it says to keep in a 70degree-90degree room. Will the test come out differently if not conducted in that temperature
Answer: Needs to be warm for the bacteria

Question: What is the range of the copper test
Answer: The copper strip range is zero to 5.0 ppm.
Question: How many test strips are in the kit

The Water Quality Test Even Government and Water Municipalities Recommend You Use. Regularly.

This isn’t just for peace of mind, this is your physical health and well-being. Time and time again, water systems we have come to trust allow polluted water to flow freely into homes causing disease and chronic health problems. Since children and pets are the most sensitive to contaminants, with sometimes devastating results, this can heighten the need for testing. Testing gives you the power of knowledge.

Environment

Aging water systems, contaminated runoff that introduces human and animal waste, and industrial chemicals are just three of the factors influencing drinking water quality—and the impact is growing greater every day.

Microorganisms and pesticides seep into water supplies.

A Research Company. Why We Do It.

We believe in scientific truth and the power of the people. Silver Lake Research produces water quality test kits for homeowners, business owners, and even yacht and RV owners who can benefit from greater ability to screen for pollutants in their drinking water. The real and lasting damage that comes from unwitting contamination exposure is a fact in current day society that should not be tolerated.

The products we invent and produce are just one step of many that are needed to protect people from these very real dangers. Use our drinking water testing kits to help you and your loved ones obtain the knowledge instrumental in staying safe and to help ensure a long and healthy life.

Question: So in the instructions, why is the illustration showing a full tube vs. one pipette? Please manufacturer, tell us what is correct
Answer: Hello OTG, Thank you for your enquiry about our Safe Home DIY Lead in Drinking Water test kit. The instructions of "one pipette" is correct. However your question is understandable, considering the visual illustration on the package does not match the volume in the tube after applying one pipette full of water. We realized this months ago and came out with a second generation of packaging and instructions (now being sold globally, including Amazon). You apparently received one of the first-generation test kits that Amazon is still selling from their inventory. We are in business to make a difference in people's lives, through science and with input like yours, we can make our products, better.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this test iron
Answer: Hi, No this test kit only tests for water total hardness (calcium carbonate). If you would like a water test for iron we offer a 9 in 1 test and a 15 in 1 test. Please search JNW Direct water test in the search bar. Thanks! Kind regards, Nathan, JNW Direct.
Question: Will this test for calcium in your tap water
Answer: Yes in a way ! It provides total Hardness rating for calcium carobonates in the water! Mainly used to establish recycle patterns for your water softener! It doesn't provide any Iron levels which would be handy!
Question: The pictures are cute, but where is this product manufactured
Answer: There is nothing on the container to indicate where this product is manufactured. I suggest you go to their website "JNWDirect.com" where they have an email contact.
Question: Is this the same test as the one on the 9 test kit
Answer: Hi, yes this is but this is a more cost effective way for people who just want to test their water softener, pool water, etc to see how soft or hard their water is. If you want more tests we recommend the 9 in 1. Best, Nathan.
