8 best pool clarifiers
Pool clarifiers are chemical products used in swimming pool maintenance to improve water clarity and overall water quality. They are an essential part of pool care, helping to remove small suspended particles and debris that can make pool water appear cloudy or hazy. Here's what you need to know about pool clarifiers:
Purpose: Pool clarifiers work by causing small particles in the water, such as dirt, dust, and algae, to clump together into larger masses. This makes it easier for the pool's filtration system to capture and remove them, resulting in clearer water.
Types: There are two primary types of pool clarifiers: coagulants and flocculants. Coagulants are milder and are typically used for regular maintenance to prevent cloudiness. Flocculants are stronger and are used when the pool water is extremely cloudy. Flocculants cause particles to sink to the bottom of the pool, making them easier to vacuum out.
Application: Pool clarifiers are typically added to the pool water through the skimmer or directly into the pool. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the correct dosage based on your pool's size and the severity of cloudiness.
Filtration: After adding a pool clarifier, it's important to run the pool's filtration system for a sufficient amount of time. This helps in trapping the clumped particles and improving water clarity.
Maintenance: Regular use of pool clarifiers can help maintain clear water, but they should not be relied upon as a replacement for proper pool maintenance practices, including regular cleaning, balancing chemicals, and maintaining the pool's filtration system.
Safety: When handling pool clarifiers or any pool chemicals, it's crucial to follow safety precautions outlined in the product's instructions. This includes wearing protective gear, storing chemicals in a cool, dry place, and keeping them out of reach of children and pets.
Compatibility: Some pool clarifiers may be compatible with specific types of pool filtration systems, such as sand, cartridge, or diatomaceous earth (DE) filters. Be sure to choose a clarifier that works well with your pool's setup.
Effectiveness: The effectiveness of a pool clarifier can vary depending on the brand and product. It's a good idea to read reviews or consult with pool experts to find a clarifier that is known for delivering the desired results.
In summary, pool clarifiers are useful tools for maintaining clear and clean pool water. They work by helping to aggregate small particles in the water, making them easier to remove through filtration. Using a pool clarifier in conjunction with regular pool maintenance practices can help ensure that your pool water remains crystal clear and inviting.

User questions & answers
Question: | My pool is green lil so I put in shock then got crystal shock How long wait turn clear this is my first time my pool turn green |
Answer: | You just note the results between the the two. Darker than 7.2 and lighter than 7.6 |
Question: | Can I use water clarification on a 6x19 pool |
Answer: | I don't know where it's manufactured, but the first time I used it, water leaked into both the side chambers of the kit where the color comparison charts are. The instruction book was missing, too. |
Question: | Is an SDS available |
Answer: | No. It will not test for cyanuric acid |
Question: | Can this work on a saltwater pool |
Answer: | Yes, the replacement reagents are readily available from your local pool store or Amazon. Make sure that the reagent purchased requires the same number of drops for the test. Most test kits have the same size testing vials but some test kit reagents only require 3 drops vs 5 drops. (PH & Chlorine tests) most common are the 5 drop reagents. Caution: some times the replacement reagents cost as much as a new kit. Watch out not to overpay. |

User questions & answers
Question: | does it turn the water BLUE,,, that is what I wont in my pool,,,Blue water |
Answer: | it clears the water of any cloudiness. it does not turn the water blue. pool water will always reflect the color of your liner. |
Question: | Will this work without shocking first |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | Exactly what chemicals are in this product? Do I use it in addition to shock, muriatic acid, algecide.... or instead of |
Answer: | This is not a product that replaces ANY pool chemical treatment. You still need your chlorine or other sanitizer, muriatic acid, CYA, Borax, algaecide, shock, etc. as usual. This enhances your usual maintenance chemicals. It does a great job of what I call clumping up small dust/dirt particles making it easier for the filter to remove them. It will not “turn you water blue,” but it does make the water crystal clear, and makes it sparkle. If you happen to have a liner with lots of blue in the pattern, it will make the water “appear” to be bluer, but all it does is remove fine particles, & makes the water crystal clear. I use it once a week, and dose after heavy rains. I’ve used it for 20 years, have tried others, but always come back to this. |
Question: | I have an Intex Metal Frame Pool with a Saltwater Pump and Filter System. Will this product work with that type of set up |
Answer: | Yes it stated on the bottle that it will work salt, and all types of filters/pumps. |

Super water clarifier. Phosphate remover & waterline Preventer. Treated to 25, 000 gallon.
- Pool and Spa 3 in 1 Xtra Blue Clarifier
User questions & answers
Question: | How much water does this treat |
Answer: | Killing the algae is more important than worrying about using clarifier. Use algaecide & shock and kill the algae first. Then let your filter work. Give it time to do its job. Then you can add clarifier to clear the water. If your pool is really green you may need lots of algaecide & shock and it may take several days to clear up completely. Last resort: use flocculant (after killing ALL algae). Make sure you read the directions and don’t let the flocculant get into your filter - recirculate setting snd then let settle for a couple days & vacuum on waste setting. |
Question: | Is this a shock treatment |
Answer: | You should be able to use it depending on the type of filter system installed to remove the particles formed by the clarifier, however note that the clarifier is intended for use in a spa tub of 300 to 400 gallons. Depending on the depth a 5x19 ft. pool contains up to 1000 gal or more. |
Question: | Is this a powder or liquid |
Answer: | Hi, We are the manufacturer of Clorox Pool&Spa products. SDS is available at www.cloroxpool.com in the SDS section at the bottom. If you have any other questions or concerns, please give us a call at 1-800-SOS-POOL. |
Question: | Do I need to use shock treatment with this |
Answer: | Yup that's what I have and it works awesome! Be sure to backwash and rinse after using this stuff so as not to redistribute all of that gunk into the pool...This stuff is must-have magic. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Hi, last time i bought this online (not from you) it was expired and watery. do yours have a current date? thanks |
Answer: | They make ones special for hot tubs. It’s called leisure time bright and clear cleanser. I have that and it works just like the ones for a pool |
Question: | How long must you run pump/filter after adding this to the water |
Answer: | No, this does not reduce CYA. You need to search for the words CYA reducer. The best way to reduce CYA is to dilute your water. If it is a pool, do not dilute too much at once. |
Question: | How long before swimming after adding this product |
Answer: | Just a guess, but Big Business discovered lots of people do not pay attention and just automatically assume it's cheaper to buy in quantity. I'd say written a review on the product, give them a 1.0 until they offer a better deal for 2 bottles. |
Question: | Why is this so much more expensive on Amazon than anywhere else |
Answer: | I’m using it in ours. |
