14 best rat poison powders
Rat poison powders, often referred to as rodenticides, are substances used for pest control to eradicate or control rat populations. These powders are commonly used in pest control and fall under the category of chemical pest management methods. Here is some information about rat poison powders:
Composition: Rat poison powders typically contain chemical compounds that are toxic to rodents. Common active ingredients in these powders include anticoagulants like warfarin, bromadiolone, or brodifacoum. These substances interfere with the blood-clotting mechanism in rats, leading to internal bleeding and eventual death.
Application: Rat poison powders are typically applied in areas where rats are known to frequent or nest. This includes areas like attics, basements, crawl spaces, garages, and outdoor spaces. It's essential to place the poison in locations that are inaccessible to children, pets, and other non-target animals.
Effectiveness: When consumed by rats, these powders can be highly effective in controlling rodent populations. However, their success depends on proper placement and dosage. Rats may consume the poison and return to their nests, potentially spreading the toxic effects to other members of the colony.
Safety Considerations: Rat poison powders are toxic to humans and pets as well. It's crucial to handle them with extreme caution and follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully. Store them in a secure location away from children and animals.
Slow-Acting: Many rat poison powders are designed to be slow-acting. This delay allows rats to feed multiple times on the bait, increasing the chances of them consuming a lethal dose before succumbing to the effects of the poison.
Secondary Poisoning: There's a risk of secondary poisoning when non-target animals consume poisoned rats. Predatory animals like owls, hawks, or domestic cats can be affected if they consume rodents that have ingested poison. This is a significant concern in ecosystems where rodenticides are used extensively.
Regulations: The use of rat poison powders is subject to regulations and guidelines set by local authorities and environmental agencies. Users are often required to follow specific safety and disposal procedures to minimize the impact on the environment and non-target species.
Alternative Methods: Due to concerns about the environmental impact and potential harm to non-target animals, many individuals and pest control professionals are exploring alternative methods of rodent control. These alternatives may include trapping and releasing rodents, using electronic pest repellent devices, or employing natural predators like barn owls.
In conclusion, rat poison powders are a chemical method of pest control used to manage rat populations. They contain toxic substances that affect rodents' ability to clot blood, leading to internal bleeding and death. While effective, their use should be approached with caution, and alternatives that are less harmful to the environment and non-target species are being considered in pest management practices.

User questions & answers
Question: | What does this say on shipping label when it comes |
Answer: | No |
Question: | Does it kill all the bed bugs in the bed with a few spray downs |
Answer: | Hello, Thank you for your question. This bed bug trap is not intended for fleas and I would not recommend it for this purpose. Best, John |
Question: | how is the shipped? As is or in plain box |
Answer: | Between the mattress and box spring |
Question: | is this a liqurd or powder |
Answer: | These are your detectors. They do not eliminate the problem, but they will confirm your problem. If placed around the room as well as near the head of the bed (By the bedposts) they will first confirm it is bedbugs, then if you use enough of them they will guide you on where to concentrate your treatments. Bedbugs look for Co2 and follow it back to you bed and you. Cut them in half you get twice as many that way. This just one part of your war against this zombie like army of critters. I have been very disappointed recently with pesticides. The best killer is a steamer with high temperature steam. Wash all your bedding in HOT water. Dry at high heat in the dryer for one hour. Completely disassemble your bed and use the steamer on EVERY nook and crack you can find. When out for a meal they are no thicker than a sheet of paper, so hit even the tinniest of cracks. Then steam the carpet and the floor. Get rid of everything (Like clutter items) in the bedroom seal it up in black garbage bags airtight Yes air tight. When it gets nice and hot outside set the bags in the sun. Let them bake for a couple days. You should get things into the 150 degree range to kill all of them. This sounds like its over the top buts its not. Bedbugs are like zombie wack a mole. You kill one and another pops up. Fight a total war. If you loose it costs around $10,000 dollars to throw a blanket over a house and treat the whole house. Even that comes with no guarantee. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What's the difference between this and boric acid? Does do the same thing |
Answer: | I understand your concern. The block Tester detects combustion gases in the coolant system. It will not work if there is no combustion. I would say, if it is igniting the fuel in all cylinders while cranking, but will not remain running it may bleed enough combustion carbons into the coolant system. However, I honestly do not think it will work unless it is running. This block tester is only for head gasket combustion carbon leaks into the coolant system. It is not for head gasket leaks that result in water leaving through the exhaust system. I hope this helps. |
Question: | is this safe to the touch |
Answer: | Yes, it works on diesel engines. A positive test might show a greenish-yellow color to the fluid rather than the full transition to yellow that you'd see when testing a gasoline engine with a combustion leak. |
Question: | Does it kill bed bugs eggs |
Answer: | You can pop the top cap off and rinse it with water (distilled water if preferred if you have it handy). Tester fluid won't leak down into the coolant as there is a one-way valve in the cone end. Even if test fluid does somehow get into the coolant, there will be no adverse effects. |
Question: | How is this product different from diatomacous earth |
Answer: | While the tool will detect exhaust gases (fluid turns from blue to yellow while squeezing the bulb), it probably wouldn't be able to pinpoint exactly where the leak is coming from. But, it may be useful in ruling out an underhood exhaust leak if you're trying to determine whether or not a particular sound (like ticking) is caused by an exhaust leak or some other mechanical problem. |

User questions & answers
Question: | how well does this work for mice |
Answer: | Made in the USA |
Question: | How is this product shipped via ups or united states postal service |
Answer: | the traps are 4" x 1 7/8" |
Question: | Will this attract birds? i have accidentally killed a bird in a trap baited with peanut butter, and i do not want to kill birds |
Answer: | I think they're pre-scented, but you can still put a dab of peanut butter on then too if you want. My husband and I throw them away each time but you can definitely release the mouse into your trash can and reset the trap...I would wear disposable gloves for that. Probably wouldn't want to reuse too many times or they might start to pick up dead mouse smell. I don't know how long the scent remains effective....would say that if you're planning to reuse them you might want to bait them after a use or two. |
Question: | description says 8 oz, picture of product shows 2 oz. Which is it |
Answer: | does not come in a box. the listing is for 12 victor M325 mouse traps . |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work for Voles |
Answer: | Yes, the sections of the bars are difficult to break so I usually put the whole block in a plastic bag and lay the block on a right-angled surface(I use my deck railing) and smack one section off at a time with a hammer. Don't give up with the mice not eating it. If they have nothing else to eat they will find the bars. Sometimes it takes persistence until they are hungry. Good luck with it. I have to say my bars work!! |
Question: | Can I just put the whole bag in a crawl space ? Or do I need to open the bag |
Answer: | This is a box of 8- one pound packages, with each package having eight bars that you have to break apart. They are pretty tough to snap, and the crumbs go everywhere. If you are putting the bars in small bait stations, the pre-cut small chunks in the big bucket will be a lot easier to handle. However, if you are treating a large barn where you can hide the bars instead of using bait stations, this package of larger bars will do the trick. |
Question: | I’ve seen mixed reviews on if this gets rid of chipmunks, someone please give me a proper answer |
Answer: | This particular product comes as a cellophane wrapped bar scored into sections so it can be broken into pieces. |
Question: | How many days does it take to kill rodents? I have been placing a handful for 4 days and every day all the nuggets are gone. Am I just feeding them |
Answer: | Please keep away from animals! Lethal to dogs and cats! If you have cats outside they can get poisoned from eating the mice that have eaten the poison |

FASTRAC with Bromethalin is Bell's newest and fastest acting rodenticide. An acute bait, FASTRAC kills rats and mice in one or two days, often within 24 hours! As an added plus, rodents stop feeding after eating a lethal dose, saving you money and bait. More rats and mice can be controlled with less bait. Bell scientists developed a method of synthesizing Bromethalin that removes by-products and impurities, yielding the purest, most consistent Bromethalin available. This powerful active ingredient, in combination with Bell's highly palatable formulation, gets dramatic results in rodent acceptance and control. FASTRAC is colored purple for easy identification and can be used in federally inspected meat and poultry plants. Bait along their runways. Generally, these areas are along walls, by gnawed openings, in or beside burrows, in corners and concealed places, between floors and walls, or in locations where rodents or their signs have been seen. Protect bait from rain and snow. Remove as much alternative food as possible. Application : Rats: Place 2 to 12 blocks per placement (usually at intervals of 15 to 30 feet). Adjust the amount of bait applied to the level of rat feeding expected at each bait placement. Maintain an uninterrupted supply of fresh bait for at least 10 days or until signs of rat activity cease. See product label for more instructions. Mice: Use 1 bait block per placement. Space placements at intervals of 8 to 12 feet in infested areas. Larger placements, up to 2 blocks, may be needed at points of extremely high mouse activity.
- Packaging : (4 lb) blocks with center hole
- Kills rats and mice in one or two days, often within 24 hours
- As an added plus, rodents stop feeding after eating a lethal dose, saving you money and bait.
- single feed bait weather resistant
- FASTRAC with Bromethalin
User questions & answers
Question: | Wil this also help with riding my yard of squirrels |
Answer: | I do not experience with squirrels (none survive in the country as something larger generally eats them). However, I do not believe that Fastrac is labeled for use with squirrels. Kaput has a product for squirrels (http://www.kaputproducts.com/solutions-by-pest-type/california-ground-squirrel/). Please be sure to check the reviews online before purchasing. |
Question: | Does it work on chipmunks |
Answer: | It doesn’t even work on mice. Save your money! |
Question: | must this be placed in a bait station, it will go in a commercial basement with no children or pets (that i care about) joking |
Answer: | You want it to go into a bait station. The smell will bring the mouse into the station then it will not be able to get out. The poison will set in and kill the mouse. You will then remove the mouse so there is no smell. |
Question: | When using this outside, do the birds eat it? I want to reduce my growing squirrel & chipmunk population without harming any birds |
Answer: | Keep in mind, this product has a label, and the label is the law. Target pests are rats and mice. leaving it out in the open for anything to get to is not only reckless but morally wrong. My actual recommendation for squirrels is a live trap ($40-50 and reusable) and release on the other side of town, at a park or greenbelt. Or pellet rifle, Crossman Pumpmaster 760 is what I use for all my pigeon and starling needs, low cost and accurate. Works on rodents too. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it kill squirrels too? I love the squirrels |
Answer: | I'm not sure, I think it does. Five months ago, I bought a squirrel bait station for the pellets. I set it on the ground in a corner of my fenced yard. Then I used some fencing to close off the other two sides--making a pen. I filled it with Just One Bite. My little dog cannot get in the pen, and I check every day to make sure there are no crumbs or pellets outside the bait station. (I refill the station about once a week. Something is eating the bait.)I put the station out in April. It's the end of Sept and I've only seen one squirrel and one chipmunk in the last 5 months! I live in a development out in the country. My yard backs up to a dense forest. Before Just One Bite, there would be 20 or more squirrels in my yard at the same time, and chipmunks scurrying betweeb my deck and the retainer wall. The squirrels chewed up my new roof and took a 1x4" chunk out of the frame to my sliding door. They also chewed off the trim around my windows. I HATE them. I have a lovely 5ft tall stacked stone retaining wall. It cost $5,000 several years ago. During the last 2 years, the chipmunks have almost torn it down. They burrow between the large stones, pulling out smaller rocks to tunnel behind. |

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: My Pet Ate RatX. What Should I do?
A: Our product is completely poison free, making it safe for use around all people, pets, and wildlife. It is only lethal to rats, mice, and voles, as the product targets a unique characteristic within their digestive tract. Do not induce vomiting. Simply make sure that the dog has access to plenty of fresh water.
Q: Why Does RatX Kill Rodents - Rats & Mice - and Not Harm Humans and Other Animals?
A: Because all rodents have a digestive system that is different from other animals. The way rodents absorb water through their lower gut is quite different to any other animals, including humans and birds. This unique digestive system is a part of what makes a rodent different from other animals.
Q: Is RatX Harmful to Wildlife?
A: No, RatX is safe for all wildlife. RatX is also safe for birds of prey as there is no risk of secondary kill.
Introduce RatX
Use RatX as instructed in areas where rats are an issue. The rat gets used to it. They trust it. And then, they eat it.
Dehydration
RatX blocks the hair-like receptors in the rats digestive system. These receptors tell them they're thirsty. So once they're blocked by RatX, the rat no longer has the desire to drink.
Kidney Failure
The dehydrated rat is mummified from the inside out, so it never smells.

User questions & answers
Question: | If the rats are stil alive, they can still produce bab rats. If we want to eliminate them, how is this product effective |
Answer: | I have not actually ever had a rat in my house. Mice and squirrels, and I believe to a great extent even insects, seem to be repelled by the smell of the mint. Since they don't like it, they leave. My aim has never been to kills anything, but to deter them from living in my space and encourage them to seek living quarters outdoors where they belong. It really does work, but if you are infested, it takes time I believe. You may have to resort to trapping or something to get a whole nest out. This product is more of a discourager and repellent, it does not harm or kill them. |
Question: | How long is it effective before you need to respray |
Answer: | I'm not sure. I spray a little every time I put a bag with any food leftovers in it in the can. I originally said I thought the bottle was expensive. However, I'm finding it's lasting pretty well. It sprays a fine mist, so you don't use a whole lot of product each time you spray. The main thing for me is that my garbage is still intact. I haven't seen hide nor hair of a squirrel anywhere near my garbage since I started using it. I've noticed there seems to be a lot fewer flies and ants too. So far, I love this product! |
Question: | I live in Florida does it work on plametto bugs .... rocches..... and ants |
Answer: | I bought this for a brief problem I had with ants which worked great on. The bottle does state it does repel: cockroaches, mice, and raccoons. It's the peppermint in it they don't like. I have also used pure peppermint oil on cotton balls in plastic baggies with holes poked in them. That also works well. |
Question: | does it work on roaches |
Answer: | Stuff works on roaches..they arent killed by it..but they sure are not in my moms kitchen anymore..she loves it. If she is happy i am buying more for her. Roaches use to be bold there..no more |

EcoClear Products 620200-6D MouseX All-Natural Non-Toxic Humane Mouse Killer Pellets, 8 oz. Bag. MouseX is a 100% non-toxic, one-of-a-kind, all-natural, humane method to kill mice that is 100% safe for people, pets and all other wildlife. Manufactured from natural vegetable and cereal grains; just one feeding is all it takes for MouseX to be effective. MouseX works due to the unique digestive system all mice possess; it kills by coating their stomach lining and eliminating all messages to the brain to drink water. Within a day or two of feeding, dehydration leads to blood thickening and circulatory collapse; they become lethargic and retreat to burrows where they lapse into a coma and die. This is a very humane method of death; mice feel no pain or discomfort they simply fall asleep. There is an absence of smell due to a mummification process eliminating up to 90% of odor. Used correctly death occurs within 2 to 4 days of feeding (dependent upon size of rodent). During this time you may actually see more mice since they are lethargic and slow to react to disturbance. Mice naturally eat up to 10% of their body weight per feeding. To be effective just 4-6% of their body weight of MouseX is needed: 10-15 grams or 1/3 to 1/2 oz. How to use MouseX: Remove all other food sources from area being treated. Place pellets in any areas where mouse activity is seen; particularly along runs and holes. Prepare small bags of product using "cling wrap" style food film or small sandwich bags; place directly into holes and voids where mice are present. Try our convenient Empty Bait Trays (B071VWPMCG) and RatX Attractant (B01J3VO6ZQ) both sold separately on Amazon. Don't underestimate the amount of mice present; re-visit the areas to re-fill regularly. Keep pellets dry; wetting reduces effectiveness. Continue to bait until mouse activity ceases. An indicator of consumption will be fecal droppings bleached in color and up to 3 times larger than normal. PLEASE NOTE: voles, gophers, and moles have a different digestive system than mice or rats and will not be killed by this product. MouseX is available in: 8 oz, and 1 pound bags as well as 2, 4, and 8-packs of pre-measured 3 oz bait trays. EcoClear “The Non-Toxic Solution to Pest Control”

User questions & answers
Question: | Manufacturer claims mice/rats will get dehydrated, die in nest, mummify, and not smell. Can anyone confirm no odor from dead rodents |
Answer: | Mice eat this and do not die! I had to buy covered mouse traps in order to get rid of them |
Question: | can this be put in the wall |
Answer: | I assume it could, but you might end up with a decaying mouse in the wall and the ensuing smells. |
Question: | Do the critters come out in the open to die or do they go into hiding somewhere |
Answer: | This doesn’t work. Mice eat it but do not die |
Question: | Does this work better than the homemade mix of equal parts flour, sugar and baking soda |
Answer: | Hello -- yes, very much so. This product is designed to work with the biology of the animal, and is a University studied and verified product. |

Question: | Help. what states are excluded from ship to? i purchased this in 2015 not a problem. now i want to purchase again for shipment to los angeles. no s |
Answer: | The larger the animal, the more it will need to eat. Ground squirrels have a similar body mass to large Norway rats. |
Question: | What is the difference between the origina, just onr bite bait bars and the just onr bite ii bait bars |
Answer: | Yes. I've mixed the pellets with peanut butter, peanut butter and oatmeal (uncooked), and even applesauce and oatmeal (uncooked), and peanut butter. I've put the contents in the tunnel plain, and even stuffed them into the cardboard toilet tube. All of which work to eliminate the pests. I've used them mostly on voles, moles and mice. I honestly don't go around looking to see if they work... but I do notice that the tunneling in my yard stops. |
Question: | How long does this stuff stay effective when placed around your home, does it become stale if left out too long |
Answer: | the active ingredient is bromadiolone 1.5 oz.-Diphacinone-0.005pct |
Question: | I can't even believe I'm asking this but any chance this works on out of control squirrels |
Answer: | I have used them in the attic & in the crawl space under our home & after a few years have zero mice. Be aware they can kill your pets & wildlife so place carefully only where mice or rats travel & even then it is best to place in bait trays which can be made easily by cutting a tablespoon size holeso on both sides of any Tupperware like container with a lid to safely contain & allow rodents to feed on pellets. |

The taste that rats and mice just die for!
For over 30 years, Just One Bite products have been recognized as “The taste rats and house mice just die for!” Trusted by farmers and homeowners alike, Just One Bite products have protected millions of people, pets, and properties from the destructive threat of rodents. Initially introduced as an alternative to warfarin-based rat and mouse baits, Just One Bite rat and mouse bait was a pelleted bromadiolone formula available in bright yellow place packs. Today, the familiar yellow packaging houses two different, 100% EPA-compliant, formulas for effective elimination of rats and house mice; Just One Bite II in bars, pellets and chunks and Just One Bite EX in blocks, pellets and bait stations. Just One Bite II continues to use bromadiolone as its active ingredient, whereas Just One Bite EX uses bromethalin, a non-anticoagulant type of bait.
In 2012, the line was expanded with the launch of Rodentex rodenticides. Rodentex products use the active ingredient, diphacinone, that is highly effective in controlling mice, rats, and meadow voles.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it only for indoor or outdoor too |
Answer: | Could work outdoors if you know where rats or mice are located/path they travel. |
Question: | Will it kill mice |
Answer: | It definitely kills rats. We had 1 or more and within a few days of putting the Tomcat out, they were gone. I haven’t seen any dead mice but I’m assuming it kills them too. |
Question: | Will this work for deer mice |
Answer: | I haven't heard of deer mice, But it works pretty good with mice and rats. |
Question: | Should I get this bag design or the bait block, I will be using them in unfinished attic and inside walls. Thanks |
Answer: | Same experience- the DeCon pellets work. The blocks made by either company do not work. Have tried the blocks with and without the wrapper. ( use gloves when taking off the wrapper...Odd that there are no instructions regarding the wrapper. Leave on or off. ) Bottom line is the blocks do not work. Pellets do, but they are off the market. My guess is for child and pet safety reasons. The warfarin active can kill and I guess if a hawk or fox eats a poisoned mouse.....Unfortunately, the old snap trap is the way to go. Glue traps are inhumane. |
