13 best rat poison pellets
Rat poison pellets are a common method used in pest control to eliminate rat infestations. These pellets are typically designed to be attractive to rats, so they consume them willingly. Once ingested, the poison works to kill the rats. Here are some key points about rat poison pellets:
Composition: Rat poison pellets typically contain toxic substances that are harmful to rats. The most common active ingredients in rat poison include anticoagulants like warfarin, bromadiolone, or difethialone. These chemicals interfere with the rat's blood clotting ability, leading to internal bleeding and death.
Attractants: Rat poison pellets often include attractive bait or flavorings to entice rats to consume them. This can include ingredients like peanut butter, grains, or other foods that are appealing to rats.
Safety Concerns: Rat poison pellets are toxic to rats, but they can also be dangerous to other animals and humans. It's crucial to handle them with care and follow the manufacturer's instructions for proper usage to minimize the risk of unintended exposure.
Placement: Placing rat poison pellets strategically in areas where rats are active is essential for effective pest control. Common locations include along rat runways, near feeding areas, or in their burrows.
Monitoring: Regularly checking and replenishing rat poison stations is essential to ensure that rats continue to consume the bait. It's also important to monitor for signs of rat activity to determine the effectiveness of the treatment.
Risks: There are potential risks associated with using rat poison pellets. Rats may die in hidden or hard-to-reach places, leading to odors and the attraction of scavengers. Additionally, there is a risk of secondary poisoning if pets or other wildlife consume poisoned rats.
Regulations: The use of rat poison pellets is subject to regulations in many areas, and it's important to follow local laws and guidelines when using them.
Alternatives: Some people prefer to use humane methods of pest control, such as live traps, to capture rats and then release them away from the property. However, it's essential to consider the specific circumstances and local regulations when choosing a pest control method.
Remember that the use of rat poison pellets should be done responsibly and in accordance with local regulations to minimize risks to non-target animals and humans. If you suspect a rat infestation on your property, it may be advisable to consult with a pest control professional for expert guidance.

User questions & answers
Question: | How long is this supposed to take? Set it out a week ago and the rat is eating it every night but still clearly alive |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the shelf life of this tub? I plan to use slowly over 3-4 years but will keep tub tightly closed in dry area. Thanks |
Answer: | I don't know the difference unless the M143 is a mouse trap, not rat. I got the bigger one because sometimes they would go off and catch nothing but sometimes the bigger one isn't sensitive enough to be set off, because of the weight. I just use sticky rat traps now. |
Question: | Does the pellets come in small bags |
Answer: | This trap is 2.875âW x 5.375âL x 2.625âH when unset. When the trap is set it, it is 3.75âH. |
Question: | I used a rat poison that is granulated and is turquoise for moles. Government changes in how it's sold making me look elsewhere. Anyone use for moles |
Answer: | Some rodents are very clever. I was advised to use a tiny dab of peanut butter. It forces the rat to scrounge around more thereby increasing likelihood of tripping the mechanism. |
Question: | Is it harmful to small dogs |
Answer: | We apologize for any confusion! The M144 model traps are the beige Power-Kill™ Rat Traps, and the M393 model traps are the black Power-Kill™ Mouse Traps (pictured). The trap information is correct and we are in the process of correcting the photos provided. |

Question: | Is it only for indoor or outdoor too |
Answer: | Could work outdoors if you know where rats or mice are located/path they travel. |
Question: | Will it kill mice |
Answer: | It definitely kills rats. We had 1 or more and within a few days of putting the Tomcat out, they were gone. I haven’t seen any dead mice but I’m assuming it kills them too. |
Question: | Will this work for deer mice |
Answer: | I haven't heard of deer mice, But it works pretty good with mice and rats. |
Question: | Should I get this bag design or the bait block, I will be using them in unfinished attic and inside walls. Thanks |
Answer: | Same experience- the DeCon pellets work. The blocks made by either company do not work. Have tried the blocks with and without the wrapper. ( use gloves when taking off the wrapper...Odd that there are no instructions regarding the wrapper. Leave on or off. ) Bottom line is the blocks do not work. Pellets do, but they are off the market. My guess is for child and pet safety reasons. The warfarin active can kill and I guess if a hawk or fox eats a poisoned mouse.....Unfortunately, the old snap trap is the way to go. Glue traps are inhumane. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work for Voles |
Answer: | Yes, the sections of the bars are difficult to break so I usually put the whole block in a plastic bag and lay the block on a right-angled surface(I use my deck railing) and smack one section off at a time with a hammer. Don't give up with the mice not eating it. If they have nothing else to eat they will find the bars. Sometimes it takes persistence until they are hungry. Good luck with it. I have to say my bars work!! |
Question: | Can I just put the whole bag in a crawl space ? Or do I need to open the bag |
Answer: | This is a box of 8- one pound packages, with each package having eight bars that you have to break apart. They are pretty tough to snap, and the crumbs go everywhere. If you are putting the bars in small bait stations, the pre-cut small chunks in the big bucket will be a lot easier to handle. However, if you are treating a large barn where you can hide the bars instead of using bait stations, this package of larger bars will do the trick. |
Question: | I’ve seen mixed reviews on if this gets rid of chipmunks, someone please give me a proper answer |
Answer: | This particular product comes as a cellophane wrapped bar scored into sections so it can be broken into pieces. |
Question: | How many days does it take to kill rodents? I have been placing a handful for 4 days and every day all the nuggets are gone. Am I just feeding them |
Answer: | Please keep away from animals! Lethal to dogs and cats! If you have cats outside they can get poisoned from eating the mice that have eaten the poison |

User questions & answers
Question: | will this kill ground squirrel |
Answer: | No idea. The containers seal tight and keep their original smell. I probably have owned my 3 tubs at least 3 years with no decrease in freshness or effectiveness. If you contact the manufacturer, you will get a more accurate assessment. How are you going to use the bait "slowly"? It would seem if you are saving it up for years and not using it, you will not attempt to kill any of the vermin. If you see one mouse, there are at least 7 more that aren't visible. |
Question: | Has anyone tried mixing the pellets with peanut butter to mitigate "bait-shyness |
Answer: | No |
Question: | Can anyone tell me which active ingredient they use? Thanks |
Answer: | Seemed to work. I put it in a "T" trap in the corner of the yard. |
Question: | Can you throw granules in attic |
Answer: | Definitely harmful to small pets. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will the bait by itself also kill rats? they've been eating the bait I set out. I'm not using the mouse trap. thanks |
Answer: | Yes, the DWE1014 is a brushed Drill. |
Question: | Ive had 1 rat outsmart everything acept it did eat your d con bait 2 blocks will this bait kill this rat how long will it take for the rat to die thx |
Answer: | no |
Question: | cholecalciferol (d3) is the active ingredient ? no anticoagulants? contains anticoagulant diphacinone? whats the truth |
Answer: | I would say yes. It drills thru 30s old steel with ease so China steel is no problem |
Question: | Is this just the bait ? I allready have the station |
Answer: | Yes. The critical issue is having the correct bit. Since this is a 3/8" drill you need to be certain the shank of the bit you select is 3/8" or less but since this is a very common size you shouldn't have a problem. I presume you don't plan on making holes larger than 1/2" because with a relatively small drill like this it will take you a long time, particularly in a hard metal. Be very careful to follow instructions that come with the bit as some need a drilling oil. |

Question: | Help. what states are excluded from ship to? i purchased this in 2015 not a problem. now i want to purchase again for shipment to los angeles. no s |
Answer: | The larger the animal, the more it will need to eat. Ground squirrels have a similar body mass to large Norway rats. |
Question: | What is the difference between the origina, just onr bite bait bars and the just onr bite ii bait bars |
Answer: | Yes. I've mixed the pellets with peanut butter, peanut butter and oatmeal (uncooked), and even applesauce and oatmeal (uncooked), and peanut butter. I've put the contents in the tunnel plain, and even stuffed them into the cardboard toilet tube. All of which work to eliminate the pests. I've used them mostly on voles, moles and mice. I honestly don't go around looking to see if they work... but I do notice that the tunneling in my yard stops. |
Question: | How long does this stuff stay effective when placed around your home, does it become stale if left out too long |
Answer: | the active ingredient is bromadiolone 1.5 oz.-Diphacinone-0.005pct |
Question: | I can't even believe I'm asking this but any chance this works on out of control squirrels |
Answer: | I have used them in the attic & in the crawl space under our home & after a few years have zero mice. Be aware they can kill your pets & wildlife so place carefully only where mice or rats travel & even then it is best to place in bait trays which can be made easily by cutting a tablespoon size holeso on both sides of any Tupperware like container with a lid to safely contain & allow rodents to feed on pellets. |

The taste that rats and mice just die for!
For over 30 years, Just One Bite products have been recognized as “The taste rats and house mice just die for!” Trusted by farmers and homeowners alike, Just One Bite products have protected millions of people, pets, and properties from the destructive threat of rodents. Initially introduced as an alternative to warfarin-based rat and mouse baits, Just One Bite rat and mouse bait was a pelleted bromadiolone formula available in bright yellow place packs. Today, the familiar yellow packaging houses two different, 100% EPA-compliant, formulas for effective elimination of rats and house mice; Just One Bite II in bars, pellets and chunks and Just One Bite EX in blocks, pellets and bait stations. Just One Bite II continues to use bromadiolone as its active ingredient, whereas Just One Bite EX uses bromethalin, a non-anticoagulant type of bait.
In 2012, the line was expanded with the launch of Rodentex rodenticides. Rodentex products use the active ingredient, diphacinone, that is highly effective in controlling mice, rats, and meadow voles.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it kill squirrels too? I love the squirrels |
Answer: | I'm not sure, I think it does. Five months ago, I bought a squirrel bait station for the pellets. I set it on the ground in a corner of my fenced yard. Then I used some fencing to close off the other two sides--making a pen. I filled it with Just One Bite. My little dog cannot get in the pen, and I check every day to make sure there are no crumbs or pellets outside the bait station. (I refill the station about once a week. Something is eating the bait.)I put the station out in April. It's the end of Sept and I've only seen one squirrel and one chipmunk in the last 5 months! I live in a development out in the country. My yard backs up to a dense forest. Before Just One Bite, there would be 20 or more squirrels in my yard at the same time, and chipmunks scurrying betweeb my deck and the retainer wall. The squirrels chewed up my new roof and took a 1x4" chunk out of the frame to my sliding door. They also chewed off the trim around my windows. I HATE them. I have a lovely 5ft tall stacked stone retaining wall. It cost $5,000 several years ago. During the last 2 years, the chipmunks have almost torn it down. They burrow between the large stones, pulling out smaller rocks to tunnel behind. |

EcoClear Products 620105, RatX All-Natural Non-Toxic Humane Rat and Mouse Killer Pellets, Ready-To-Use Pre-Measured 3 oz. Bait Trays, 4-Pack. RatX Trays are pre-measured bait trays that make baiting easy, just peel off the bait tray cover and set them out where you see Rat or Mouse activity. Each plastic bait tray contains 3 ounces of RatX pellets. RatX is a 100% non-toxic one-of-a-kind natural humane method to kill rats and mice that is 100% safe for people, pets and all other wildlife. from natural vegetable and cereal grains; just one feeding is all it takes for RatX to be effective. RatX works due to the unique digestive system all rats and mice possess; it kills by coating their stomach lining and eliminating all messages to the brain to drink water. Within a day or two of feeding dehydration leads to blood thickening and circulatory collapse; they become lethargic and retreat to burrows where they lapse into a coma and die. This is a very humane method of death, the rat or mouse never feels any pain or discomfort; they simply fall asleep. There is an absence of smell due to a mummification process eliminating up to 90% of odor. Used correctly death occurs within 2 to 4 days of feeding (dependent upon size of rodent). During this time you may actually see more rats and mice since they are lethargic and slow to react to disturbance. How to use RatX: Rats and mice naturally eat up to 10% of their body weight per feeding. One 3 oz. tray of RatX will kill approximately rat or mice. To be effective just 4-6% of their body weight in RatX is needed: 40-60 grams or 1-1/2 to 2 oz for Rats; 10-15 grams or 1/3 to 1/2 oz for Mice. Remove all other food sources from area being treated. RatX pellets are placed in any areas where rat or mouse activity is seen; particularly along runs and holes. Place directly into holes and voids where rodents are present. For added attraction use our RatX Attractant (B01J3VO6ZQ) sold separately on Amazon. Don't underestimate the amount of rodents present; re-visit the areas to re-bait regularly. Keep pellets dry; wetting reduces effectiveness. Continue to bait until rat or mouse activity ceases. An indicator of consumption will be fecal droppings bleached in color and up to 3 times larger than normal. PLEASE NOTE: voles, gophers, and moles have a different digestive system than mice or rats and will not be killed by this product. RatX is available in: 2, 4, and 8-pack pre-measured 3 oz bait trays as well as 8 oz, 1, 3, and 25 pound bags. EcoClear “The Non-Toxic Solution to Pest Control”

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: My Pet Ate RatX. What Should I do?
A: Our product is completely poison free, making it safe for use around all people, pets, and wildlife. It is only lethal to rats, mice, and voles, as the product targets a unique characteristic within their digestive tract. Do not induce vomiting. Simply make sure that the dog has access to plenty of fresh water.
Q: Why Does RatX Kill Rodents - Rats & Mice - and Not Harm Humans and Other Animals?
A: Because all rodents have a digestive system that is different from other animals. The way rodents absorb water through their lower gut is quite different to any other animals, including humans and birds. This unique digestive system is a part of what makes a rodent different from other animals.
Q: Is RatX Harmful to Wildlife?
A: No, RatX is safe for all wildlife. RatX is also safe for birds of prey as there is no risk of secondary kill.
Introduce RatX
Use RatX as instructed in areas where rats are an issue. The rat gets used to it. They trust it. And then, they eat it.
Dehydration
RatX blocks the hair-like receptors in the rats digestive system. These receptors tell them they're thirsty. So once they're blocked by RatX, the rat no longer has the desire to drink.
Kidney Failure
The dehydrated rat is mummified from the inside out, so it never smells.

Product description
EcoClear Products 620102, RatX All-Natural Non-Toxic Humane Rat and Mouse Killer Pellets, 3 lb. Bag. RatX is a 100% non-toxic one-of-a-kind natural humane method to kill rats and mice that is 100% safe for people, pets and all other wildlife. Manufactured in the USA from natural vegetable and cereal grains; just one feeding is all it takes for RatX to be effective. Prepare small bags of product using "cling wrap" style food film or small sandwich bags and place directly into holes and voids where rodents are present. Try our convenient Empty Bait Trays (B071VWPMCG) and RatX Attractant (B01J3VO6ZQ) both sold separately on Amazon. Don't underestimate the amount of rodents present; re-visit the areas to re-fill regularly. User questions & answers
Question: | Can these be used indoors |
Answer: | No. The urine will just pool in the bottom of the box under the pellets instead of passing through the grill of the Tidy Cat box and dropping down onto the absorbant pad in the tray below. |
Question: | I want something that will kill chipmunks. Will this kill chipmunks |
Answer: | No. They are like little ceramic pellets that the urine passes through to the pad below, and the poop sits on top and can get removed easily and flushed or disposed of. I don't know if the pee pads are biodegradable. |
Question: | I see there is a product called mouse x, does ratx not work on mice |
Answer: | I'll use a whole 7lb bag with 2 cats, but I have also learned that you can wash the pellets to make them last longer. I replace the pellets with new ones 1x a month. Saves me a ton of money doing it that way. I have 2 litter systems, so when one is drying, I'll clean the other one. But it only takes 30 minutes to dry for me, cause I'll put the freshly cleaned ones in a net bag and but it in the dryer. I don't wash them in my washer because the cycle is to harsh and I don't need pellets stuck in my washer. I have put them in the dish washer before tho. |
Question: | How long does this take to work |
Answer: | Yes. I have two 5 mth old kittens. When their stool is moist it sticks to the pellets and inside of box needs to be cleaned. Just scrubbed today and am adding more pellets to prevent this, |
