User questions & answers
Question: | How tall is it |
Answer: | 12" tall |
Question: | Is it collapsible to store |
Answer: | No if I tried to take it apart I wouldn’t know how to put it back together. Try you tube but it catches great don’t put the food on the sliver plate in the trap u have to put the food inside close to the back door . I had one animal get a free meal and walked out |
Question: | Seller ... do you have a picture (other than the 2nd one down), where bait is placed behind the spring mechanism plate? more success that way |
Answer: | To whom it may concern: I have a similar trap. I always place the bait beyond the trigger plate, which is the mechanism for releasing the trap door. I have no idea why anyone would put bait in front of the trigger plate. I have had trouble with raccoons reaching in and getting the bait from the closed end of the trap, so I built a wooden cover for that end (completely covers the top, back, sides for the rear 12 inches). Now the only way for an animal to get the bait is to enter the front and step on (or otherwise jostle the trigger plate. I do put a little bait at the front door :-) I've caught 4 racoons in the past 3 to 4 weeks. Full disclosure: I don't have this particular trap, but it is VERY similar. |
Question: | Does it come in a unmarked box |
Answer: | Box is clearly marked that it contains a live animal cage trap. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What have you put under it (to prevent bathroom accidents in your vehicle) during transportation |
Answer: | I never transported an animal in it but I would think a heavy duty trash (approx 32 gal) around it with the top not tied would be sufficient. |
Question: | why bait tray tripped, bait gone, no catch |
Answer: | Depends on bait.... Birds and rats can get in and out without tripping the trap! I had to bend the wire at the top hook where it lockcs and it works fine. I always test it when I leave it. I have caught 12 Racoons...3 feral cats...and one neighbors trap. I have had the best luck with Fried Chicken left over bones, Marchmallows, and Reeses Peanut Butter cups. What amazies me is if caught with a couple of chicken bones as bait when I go to get the trap the Coon has eaten the entire bone. |
Question: | What's the difference between "Havahart 1079 Live Animal Professional-Style One-Door Raccoon, Groundhog, Opossum, and Stray Cat..." and Havahart |
Answer: | The only difference is that in the 1089, when you lift the handle, it automatically sets the trap or locks the door for the animal you are trying to catch. In the 1079, which I bought, you set the trap manually. I like being able to get the bait inside and every thing done before I set the spring on the door. I don't want my arm cought in it trying to get the bait set. If you are trying to catch raccoons, you will also need something to stabilize the cage. You would be surprised how a caccoon can roll the cage. Sue |
Question: | What are the dimensions? I have a cat trap built the same way but i am afraid the raccoon might be too big for it |
Answer: | That will depend upon the raccoon in question. I've caught a lot of woodchucks, opossum, squirrels, the occasional bird, and a skunk in my 1079 but have been having mixed results with a current raccoon problem--raccoons got into an attic. I caught a medium sized one right away and another a few days later. Unfortunately the second one flipped the trap over which released the gravity lock and it was able to escape. After that I wired the trap to the roof framing so it couldn't be moved and they attacked the trap from the outside to get the bait... they even pulled the trigger rod out of the trap! I ordered a Havahart 1081 (15x15x42) recently and it arrived Wednesday. I set it Thursday evening and caught a huge raccoon overnight. I had that new trap wired to the roof framing also and covered the floor of the trap and pan with a piece of carpet that was in the attic. Some sardines (in a tin that was opened just a crack) was placed near the pan and away from the end and sides so the raccoons couldn't reach it. Regarding the it depends aspect... How big is the raccoon you are after in reality. If it is truly a large one get a bigger trap and I think you'll have better luck. |

Durable Traps are Built to Last
The Havahart Large 1-Door Animal Trap is designed to remain reliable and sturdy enough to withstand the pressures of outdoor conditions as well as the unruly animals you may trap. Each trap is constructed with rust-resistant, galvanized, 12-gauge wire mesh that provides long-lasting protection for your property from damage-causing animal pests.
Innovative Safety Features
Safety for both people and animals is always a priority when designing a trap. The Large 1-Door Animal Trap is no exception. The spring-loaded door ensures the animal remains securely inside until its time of release and helps to prevent escapes while the large handle guard minimizes the chance of contact between you and the animal during transport. Inside the trap, the edges are smoothed to prevent injuries to the animal during its time in the trap.
Step 1: Choose and Place Bait
All animals prefer different bait. Choose a bait that will encourage the animal you’re trapping to enter the trap. For example, use cantaloupe for groundhogs, fish for cats, or marshmallows for raccoons. Place the bait towards the back of the trap to encourage animals to enter the trap fully before stepping on the trigger plate.
Step 2: Set the Trap
Set the live trap in or near the area where you’ve noticed pest animal activity. Try leaving the trap unset for several days to allow animals to become more comfortable with the trap, making them easier to catch.
Step 3: Check the Trap Regularly
Both hot and cold conditions can be harmful to the trapped animal and remaining in a live cage trap can cause stress to the animal. Check your traps daily to ensure humane treatment and a quick release back into the wild.

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the expiry date |
Answer: | We recommend using one hole packet of bait in each trap. |
Question: | Does anyone in Florida use this product? Does it work |
Answer: | This bait should typically last 3 weeks or longer. As long as there is still an odor and the water has not dried up, the bait will still be effective. |
Question: | Is this waterproof |
Answer: | They need to be hung 3 to 6 feet off the ground in a sunny spot, by where the flies hang out. I personally went back to using the sticky tape kind because the attractant is this stuff only lasts about 2 days. |
Question: | Does this product work |
Answer: | First Gather your courage, then rotate the bottle so you can drown the remaining flies. Then you steel yourself because you going to have to unscrew and dump it. If you have a large yard dig a hole and bury it or dump into a trash bag, seal it, dump it and run because it will stink like nothing you have ever smelled. Then rinse out, refill and add bait. Good luck! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this work to catch cottontail bunnies |
Answer: | I purchased this one to catch chipmunks; works perfect; for bunnies, it's probably too small; there is only 10 inches from the door to the trigger they have to step on; maybe real small rabbits, but overall, I would say don't trust it for rabbits; you need next size larger. |
Question: | Is this trap large enough for grey squirrels |
Answer: | I have caught 5 grey squirrels in less than 24 hrs with this trap, several of which were quite large. I used peanuts as bait. This, by far, has been the most effective trap to catch grey squirrels. |
Question: | size |
Answer: | It's about 16" X 6" X 6.5". Perfect size for one squirrel. |
Question: | I have a rat who is only attracted to Pepsi - can I put a bowl of this in the cage |
Answer: | A bowl would be to large and might block the trip mechanism. You could use a large cap off a bottle or one of those small plastic cups that fruit or pudding comes in filled with Pepsi. Balancing one of those on the trip plate so when the rat goes for a drink should work to catch your addict. |

Havahart Live Animal Cage Trap Model 0745
The Havahart 1-Door Live Animal Trap is Havahart’s extra-small trap and designed to capture a number of small-sized critters such as chipmunks, squirrels, flying squirrels, weasels, rats and voles. Designed and field-tested by trapping professionals, it uses an ultra-sensitive trip-plate to capture these tiny animals and a close-set wire mesh to contain them. With the right bait, you’ll draw your target animal into the trap. Once the animal trips the trigger, the gravity-action door drops behind them, safely holding the critter until you can humanely release it.
To protect the animal, the trap features smooth internal edges that keep the animal safe from harming itself. Each trap features a carrying handle so you won’t come in contact with the animal inside.
Chipmunks
Use peanut butter to 'glue' sunflower seeds, corn or raisins to the trigger plate of your chipmunk trap, then place it near the chipmunk burrow, under bushes they hide in or under a shed or similar structure.
Rats
Try a variety of food in your trap, including bacon, peanut butter or nuts. Place the rat trap near walls, wires or other pathways you believe the rats use. If you see rat droppings or gnaw marks, you’ve found the right spot.
Squirrels
The baits squirrels love match most other small animals – peanut butter, nuts, apple slices and grains. Place the trap where squirrels are active, but away from other food sources, such as a bird feeder.
Voles
These mouse-like animals have a small range, so place your trap within that territory. Bait with apple slices, nuts, sunflower seeds or gum drops. You can 'glue' those items in place with peanut butter.
Step 1: Baiting
Often times, it’s easier to bait the trap before setting it and placing it. For most animals, you can apply peanut butter to the trigger plate and add some supplementary item to it as further incentive to the target animal.
Step 2: Placement
Your trap should be placed where there’s evidence of the pest animal’s activity. In particular, try to place it near its nest and in any areas where it might normally find food. Remove all other food sources, if possible.
Step 3: Release
After the capture, try to make the animal as comfortable as possible. Cover the trap with a towel, and release the animal at least 2 miles away. Be sure to check your local catch-and-release laws before trapping.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this big enough and sturdy to catch common Oregon squirrels |
Answer: | While the design does limit the smell somewhat, it's best used outdoors. When the tide of rotten fly's does rise, so does the smell of the carnage. The bait that is used is hard to smell though, unless you put your nose in it. Which I don't recommend. I have a jar hanging from a tree in the back yard some 20 feet from the back door. It attaches fly's well enough that they don't bother trying to get inside. And we don't smell a single thing. |
Question: | The picture shows the length as 12.6" but the description says 17". Which is correct |
Answer: | We used the whole bottle, then drained out the dead flies. There will be dead flies & it smells too, so it should be outside, unless it's in a barn. Will buy new bait for next year. |
Question: | Do you set it with both doors open? Will both doors close at the same time if triggered |
Answer: | Any product can be toxic depending on who is involved. Keep it away from pets and children and unintelligent adults. |
Question: | My ratZ fatz trap broke . can I get a replacement for it? as printed in the direction folder |
Answer: | Im sure you could. But I found that anything will work. A piece of raw meat chicken, dog poop or whatever will attract flies. |
- No poisons or chemicals
- Simple to set
- Deep bait well for added Effectiveness
- Great for all your needs
- Plastic mouse trap

User questions & answers
Question: | does it work on pavemrnt anta |
Answer: | You need to open by pulling the part outside so the ants can go in the holes as shown on package; otherwise they d not get the poison. In other words you cannot just take them out and place them. |
Question: | How often do they need to be replaced |
Answer: | If they are joined, just snap them apart. DO NOT separate the round part from the square flat part. Just place the flat side on surface and the round part is on top. |
Question: | Are they safe to use in a car |
Answer: | No need to open, traps are ready to go out of the box. More Info: Remove the packs from the box, separate trays at perforation so you have four bait trays. Place the bait traps decal side down on flat surface near ant activity. No need to open, ants will enter bait station to carry the poison back to the colony to feed the queen, larvae, and themselves. |
Question: | Does this work on carpenter ants |
Answer: | No, the ants supposedly go though the small opening, however ours weren't interested in it |

User questions & answers
Question: | What bait should i use for the squirrelinator |
Answer: | I use Chicken scratch, they love it! |
Question: | How tall is it |
Answer: | Its about 3' square. I have two of them and they work great. Without them I wouldn't have a garden. |
Question: | how big are the openings, are they small enough, 1/2" sq., to keep a flying squirrel trapped |
Answer: | They are perfect. Once they enter the trap the opening closes immediately and they are trapped with no way to get out unless you let them out. |
Question: | What is the size difference between $55 and $141 Squirrelinator Trap |
Answer: | Nothing, it’s a trick. They charge you 141 for one trap. Just choose the one for 55$. I had to get a refund |
