Answer:	I purchased this one to catch chipmunks; works perfect; for bunnies, it's probably too small; there is only 10 inches from the door to the trigger they have to step on; maybe real small rabbits, but overall, I would say don't trust it for rabbits; you need next size larger.

How To Catch Them The Right Way

When having to lure a stubborn rodent:

• ✓ Keep the compression bar snapped into the Storage Latch so the door stays propped open for as long as you need to lure your rodent. Put some sweet-smelling/fragrant bait inside and outside of the trap for a few days. Peanut butter, dog food, and dried fruit are some good choices. Question:	Other traps i have used have a door for release. how do i release the mouse without holding the mechanism open
Answer:	I am surprised peanut butter did not work. You often need to leave the trap untouched for a couple of days for the mouse to feel it is safe before they will enter the trap. Carmel rice cakes seem to give off a smell that mice like so you might try that, but chunky peanut butter has worked miracles for me. Sharp cheese with a little bit of meat can work too. The best thing is to leave the trap in a dark place near the wall or at the back of the counter, next to the back of the stove in the kitchen. This trap definitely works better than anything I have ever tried and you feel so great when you catch the little things and can release them outside! Hope this helps.
Question:	I want want to catch rats. They have built themselves many tunnels in my rockery. I don’t want to catch the eastern gray squirrels. Will this work
Answer:	The mouse should not be able to eat the bait because the bait is behind the compartment door. There are slots in the door and the mouse will be trying to access the food (peanut butter with a cheerio attached) and then the door on the other side of the trap will shut while the mouse is trying to access the food. it is very difficult to get the food compartment door open so you might not realize that it opens.
Question:	Does the trap have a carrying handle? It does on some pictures and not on others; which is it
Answer:	You should NEVER wash anything related to a pet or any kind of animal in the dishwasher OR in the sink that you use. The cross contamination is shocking. Please use the water hose outside. I never wash my pet dishes in the sink after reading the CDC recommendations. There are common pathogens that can survive around a wet area for years. There are pathogens that chlorine. rubbing alcohol, etc . . , does not kill. Mice and other rodents carry hatavirus (usually deer mice) and other pathogens that can infect humans. I almost did not buy this product due to the image showing a person using the faucet. USE YOUR WATER-HOSE OUTSIDE and take a disposal sponge, dish detergent etc with you. I do this every three days with my dog bowls.
Question:	I pull the handle back to set it and it doesn't stay. i guess i got a dud.i guess i'll have to return it
Answer:	I bought two traps (the green ones) and have caught 10 mice. One of the traps a mouse had been caught 2 times and has broken through the bait area, so i have now taped that one. The second trap, the mouse chewed through the catch on the bottom fulcrum, so that one is useless. It is unrealistic to say you can release them as soon as they are caught. They may get trapped at night while you sleep or while you may be at work...they will have plenty of time to chew on the plastic and destroy these traps.

Answer:	Yes it has a basic handle made of thin metal wire on a hinge that can lie flat on top of the trap, which may be why it’s not apparent in some photos. But it’s definitely there.
Question:	How does it actually trap the mice? Is there a “trap door
Answer:	Mine was the same. It is not a dud though, you just have to adjust the sensitivity. Under the trigger plate is a small silver magnet. Gently bend the flap on the trigger plate away from the magnet to make it less sensitive, and closer to the magnet to make it more sensitive. If the metal flap is set too close to the magnet, the force of the magnet will trigger the trap, even with no weight on the trigger, and it won’t stay open.

Question:	Will this work for squirrels
Answer:	Yes. It kills pine squirrels. I’ve never had a problem with Gray or fox squirrels so I don’t know if it works on them. But pine squirrels are extremely destructive and failing to live trap them and move them during the summer which I do, when they start moving in in the fall I believe it’s more humane to have them zapped rather then take them somewhere where they have no shelter or food stocked and suffer through a snowy winter. The recent run was attacking the headliner on a new car for nesting material.

Answer:	I love this device and yes to the giant rat. Thought I had squirrels in my wall, put a few of these up in the attic and got seven. Yes seven rats over two days. I checked them twice a day. What I like is the rat is dead in the trap. I just pick up the trap, pour the rat out into bucket (husband gets to empty bucket). And rest. After two days. No more rats. Love these. I have four and use them in my chicken coop, shop and attic. FYI. I live on a farm and the corn, hay, and feed the chickens spread all over are meca mice/rat attractions.

Question:	will it catch large lizards
Answer:	I catch lizards in them all the time here in Florida. I'm not sure they're attracted to the scent though. I only seem to catch them walking through high traffic areas. I also catch baby snakes constantly.
Question:	What is the size of the sticky area on each trap
Answer:	The " is equal to an inch (imperial writing) check your U.S. Ruler length and yes that is a size, 6" inches by 8" inches is a good size for mice, I will staple or duct tape a few together for a RAT size all together and hope the sticky stuff is tough enough.

Answer:	Once you get over their cute little faces, you walk the trap out to a field (or neighbor's yard-perhaps one you are not very fond of) and you set the trap close to or on the ground and push the little door up with you finger, then watch as the little critter runs gleefully for his life! 😁 I caught 3 in my kitchen within a little over a weeks time. I filled the compartment with peanut butter, but I also put a few shelled peanuts down on the kitchen floor at the door opening and a few more inside of the trap on the part that causes the door to spring shut when it senses the little creeps weight. The "trap" door part of this is on a spring with a locking mechanism that keeps it open until the mouses weight causes it to spring shut. This is the door that you manipulate with your finger to both set it and tomser the little guy free. I won't use any other kind of trap based on my experience with this one.

Answer:	Yes there are air holes. We live in the country and mice can be a problem. I can't kill them, so this trap is perfect. I use peanut butter to bait the trap and only set it when I will be available to check it every 5 o 6 hours. I have left it for 8 hours and the little critter was plenty frisky when I released him. If I leave it set overnight I put a tsp of water in a soda screw top so he doesn't get thirsty. I usually catch 2 or 3 mice in a 2 day period and then I have no evidence of them for a few months. I have several metal havahart traps, but they are hard to set and messey to clean. I have foun the answer to mouse control. I release them in a grassy area near a river. So, they have plenty of air to survive a night in a mouse diner and a short car ride to their new home.

Answer:	I never transported an animal in it but I would think a heavy duty trash (approx 32 gal) around it with the top not tied would be sufficient.

Answer:	Depends on bait.... Birds and rats can get in and out without tripping the trap! I had to bend the wire at the top hook where it lockcs and it works fine. I always test it when I leave it. I have caught 12 Racoons...3 feral cats...and one neighbors trap. I have had the best luck with Fried Chicken left over bones, Marchmallows, and Reeses Peanut Butter cups.What amazies me is if caught with a couple of chicken bones as bait when I go to get the trap the Coon has eaten the entire bone.
Question:	What's the difference between "Havahart 1079 Live Animal Professional-Style One-Door Raccoon, Groundhog, Opossum, and Stray Cat..." and Havahart
Answer:	The only difference is that in the 1089, when you lift the handle, it automatically sets the trap or locks the door for the animal you are trying to catch. In the 1079, which I bought, you set the trap manually. I like being able to get the bait inside and every thing done before I set the spring on the door. I don't want my arm cought in it trying to get the bait set. If you are trying to catch raccoons, you will also need something to stabilize the cage. You would be surprised how a caccoon can roll the cage. Sue
Question:	What are the dimensions? I have a cat trap built the same way but i am afraid the raccoon might be too big for it
Answer:	That will depend upon the raccoon in question. I've caught a lot of woodchucks, opossum, squirrels, the occasional bird, and a skunk in my 1079 but have been having mixed results with a current raccoon problem--raccoons got into an attic. I caught a medium sized one right away and another a few days later. Unfortunately the second one flipped the trap over which released the gravity lock and it was able to escape. After that I wired the trap to the roof framing so it couldn't be moved and they attacked the trap from the outside to get the bait... they even pulled the trigger rod out of the trap! I ordered a Havahart 1081 (15x15x42) recently and it arrived Wednesday. I set it Thursday evening and caught a huge raccoon overnight. I had that new trap wired to the roof framing also and covered the floor of the trap and pan with a piece of carpet that was in the attic. Some sardines (in a tin that was opened just a crack) was placed near the pan and away from the end and sides so the raccoons couldn't reach it. Regarding the it depends aspect... How big is the raccoon you are after in reality. If it is truly a large one get a bigger trap and I think you'll have better luck.
