13 best insecticide pesticides
Insecticide pesticides are chemicals used to control and manage insect populations in various settings, including agriculture, landscaping, and pest control. They are designed to kill, repel, or inhibit the growth of insects that can damage crops, spread diseases, or become nuisances in homes and outdoor spaces. Here are some key points about insecticide pesticides:
Types of Insecticides: There are several types of insecticides, each with its own mode of action. Common categories include:
- Contact Insecticides: These kill insects upon direct contact or ingestion. Examples include pyrethroids and organophosphates.
- Systemic Insecticides: These are absorbed by plants and become toxic to insects that feed on them.
- Residual Insecticides: These provide long-lasting protection by leaving a residue on surfaces, making them effective against crawling insects.
- Biological Insecticides: These use living organisms, such as beneficial insects or microbial agents, to control pest populations.
- Insect Growth Regulators (IGRs): IGRs disrupt the development of insects, preventing them from reaching maturity or reproducing.
Application Methods: Insecticide pesticides can be applied in various ways, including:
- Spraying: Using sprayers, such as backpack sprayers or garden sprayers, to distribute insecticide over plants or surfaces.
- Dusting: Applying insecticide in powder form to plants, crevices, or insect hiding spots.
- Baiting: Placing bait containing insecticide to attract and poison pests.
- Fogging: Using specialized equipment to create a fine mist of insecticide, often used in indoor pest control.
- Soil Drenching: Applying insecticide to the soil around plants to protect them from soil-dwelling pests.
Targeted Pests: Insecticide pesticides are formulated to target specific types of insects or pests. Some insecticides are broad-spectrum, affecting a wide range of insects, while others are designed for specific pests like aphids, ants, mosquitoes, or caterpillars.
Safety Precautions: When using insecticide pesticides, it's essential to follow safety guidelines, including wearing protective clothing and using appropriate equipment. It's also important to store insecticides safely, away from children and pets.
Environmental Impact: The use of insecticides can have environmental implications. Some insecticides may harm non-target species, including beneficial insects like bees and butterflies. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies aim to minimize the environmental impact by using insecticides as a last resort and incorporating other pest control methods.
Regulation: In many countries, the sale and use of insecticide pesticides are regulated by government agencies to ensure their safety and effectiveness. Users should follow local regulations and guidelines when purchasing and applying insecticides.
Resistance: Over time, some insect populations may develop resistance to certain insecticides. To mitigate resistance, it's important to rotate between different types of insecticides and use them judiciously.
Insecticide pesticides play a vital role in pest management and agriculture, helping to protect crops, public health, and property. However, their use should be done responsibly and in accordance with best practices to minimize potential risks to the environment and human health.

Answer: | Yes it will kill potato bugs. we have used all different kinds of bug sprays and this one is the only one that has worked. LOVE IT !!!!!! |
Question: | Does this work on scales and mealy bugs |

User questions & answers
Question: | will this kill cinch bugs |
Answer: | (S) Methoprene |
Question: | can I use two ounces per gallon to kill German cockroaches |
Answer: | It is a water-base concentrate. Depends on your expectations and extent of application / saturation. We have low-cost laminate flooring and manufacturer's advice is don't let water stand. The wife wet mops it all the time. No problems. Even if you have an infestation you wouldn't soak your floor with this. Be sure to read precautions for pets, children, or pregnant women. Check out Diatomaceous Earth for outdoors and out of the way places. Very safe for people and pets. |
Question: | Is it oderless |
Answer: | All I can say to this question is what I researched, it is safe after drying. We didn't notice any problems, discoloration in furniture, etc. However, nothing we have bought or tried worked as well as promised. We got fleas in our house from a friend's dog. We bombed twice, used precor everywhere twice, and used home guard EVERYWHERE several times, cleaned carpets, vacuumed numerous extra times, tried the natural remedies guaranteed to work. None of them worked as promised. Now after many continuous treatments, it is possible, the fleas are gone, but we're still not sure. |
Question: | Is this supposed to be mixed with i.g. regulator? what's the difference between the two products |
Answer: | It can be used in a normal fogger, but heating it may not be advisable. Here's the MSDS https://www.zoecon.com/-/media/files/zoecon-na/us/product%20labels/sds/precor%20igr%20concentrate%20sds.pdf |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I use this on vegetables |
Answer: | from "Spinosad fact sheet":What happens to spinosad in the environment?Spinosad is broken down rapidly by sunlight. In the presence of sunlight, half-lives on leaves are 2 to 16 days and less than one day in water. When applied to leaves, some spinosad can be absorbed. However, it does not readily spread from leaves to the rest of the plant. In the absence of sunlight, spinosad breaks down very slowly in water. Half-lives of more than 30 days to 259 days have been reported. However, it binds rapidly to sediment. The halflife in sediment, where no oxygen is available, ranges from 161 to 250 days.Spinosad also sticks to soil and has a very low potential to move through soil towards ground water. In field studies, no break down products of spinosad were found below a soil depth of two feet. In the top layers of soil, spinosad is rapidly broken down by microbes. Soil half-lives of 9 to 17 days have been reported. After it is applied, spinosad is not likely to become airborne. |
Question: | What is the usage of product per gallon of water for Sago palms |
Answer: | I have used Captain Jack Bonide successfully against Japanese Beetles. It also works against Gypsy moth caterpillars. |
Question: | What is the dilution ratio with water |
Answer: | This Spinosad solution comes in a 1 quart bottle, which equals 32 ounces. Bonide says that it takes 2 ounces (4 Tb) to mix into 1 gallon of water. 32 ounces divided by 2 ounces equals 16. So this bottle gives you enough Spinosad to make 16 gallons of spray. |
Question: | What is the difference between this and the one with dinotefuran? and does the regular safari need a surfactant? i am treating lecanium scale on oak t |
Answer: | My neighbor (next acre over) is a Master Gardner and has ZERO ants in his yard. I have tons ..and have tried everything. He uses 1 TBS of Liquid Molasses per Gallon of water combined with Captain Jack's (this) spinosad--5 oz. (per bottle's instructions). He says after a rain, ant piles will rise up to save the larvae. He pours some from a watering can (remove sprinkler nozzle) so it "pours" a bit heavier into the mound (one "Z"ish swipe pattern). The molasses feeds the bacteria in the spinosad so it grows. The spinosad kills the larvae. The larvae is the key (even tho it can take 3-4weeks to see results)! As far as direct ant contact, he's seen some ants die immediately while others not. It kills larvae well, since I sprayed a TINY! bit on a caterpillar and it died instantly. I think it would kill earthworms too, so thankfully worms don't live in ant piles. One gallon of Captain Jack's goes a long way. Once you've mixed the 3 together, you MUST use it up - not store it, because the bacteria won't remain. Store the Captain Jack's (concentrate) bottle in your garage (or house) - not outside. I'm ordering it for the first time.. and after walking around his acre, I'm a believer. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this work for clover mites |
Answer: | Ultracide is only for surfaces in the home, including carpet, hard floors and furniture areas you don't touch or get your face close to so as to inhale it. After it is dry, and the air is clear of fumes, pets and people can return to treaed areas. (20 minutes-ish?) It is a very effective immediate poison to insects plus leaves a residue that keeps newly hatched ones from growing for several months if not washed (shampoed or mopped) off. It is ALSO very poisonous if put on mammals like pets and people! Read the can! To get fleas off baby kittens and pups, wash gently with warm water and soap. Dish soap is great. This mainly just stuns fleas so they can be flushed off, so wash them all the way down the drain because they wake up and are good as new quickly. Wash or change their bedding very hot to get rid of eggs every day. Capstar (Nitepyrm) and Program (Lufenuron) are safe for kittens in food at only a few weeks of age, and the Capstar kills while the Program prevents newly hatched insects from growing. These two products are safer than drops or topicals, and the bugs don't develop resistance to them like topical products. In combination, they are about foolproof. These are fed to the pet and the ingredients are only poisonous to insects, not mammals. You get them at the vet, or by the generic names online. (usually in bulk) |
Question: | Can the be used on orchids |
Answer: | Id like to believe so. But it kills the fleas for sure up to 7+ months. Not immeadiatly because they have many eggs and etc, but definitly in a month or so . |
Question: | The instructions with it do not say how often to treat! once? every two weeks? daily? can someone tell me, please |
Answer: | Definitely vacuume first. At least I always do. And I also moved all the furniture. Maybe I went a tad overboard but the fleas all disappeared after 3 days or so. I spray her bedding now too, after a good wash, and I haven't seen any since May when I bought this stuff. |
Question: | Can this be used on Chillies and, if so, how close to harvest? Thanks |
Answer: | I usually wait half a day like I'll put it at 8 and come back home around 5. Just to be sure .. sometimes I don't come home till the next day |

User questions & answers
Question: | Been told it works on Japanese beetles? Anyone tried |
Answer: | I believe so. Mine was and it worked well. It is probably pre-emulsified, which would make it creamy, to aid in mixing. |
Question: | Is it genuine |
Answer: | The monterey horticultural oil is organic. It is 80% mineral oil and works by smothering insects and their eggs. The 6 time a year is so the oil does not develop a residual oil on the plants leaves which could effect the plants ability to photo synthesize. If a bee is actually sprayed with this oil it can be toxic as it can smother them, which is why it is suggested to use in early am and late evening when bees are not active. |
Question: | Is this organic |
Answer: | Jensen Distributing is the company that distributed product to the sellers. The manufacturers is Monterey. A gallon size is available. The amazon ASIN number is B06XC64WYB. Or monterey number LG6292 |
Question: | Can i also add neem oil to the bt and water |
Answer: | It’s canola oil and will not burn |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it kill thrips |
Answer: | Yes it on the list of insects on the label. I use it for Japanese Beatles |
Question: | Is this product organic |
Answer: | I use the recommended ration on all plants because the bugs I use it for are little skinny white worms that eat up the roots. If you don't get the answer you are looking for then I would suggest trying a slightly diluted formula first as a test. We use Neam oil on our rose foliage. Neam oil needs to be shaken constantly as you spray it since oil and water rapidly separate. |
Question: | Does this work for fungus gnats |
Answer: | I looked at the label it will kill over 100 different insects but I didn't see squash vine borer |
Question: | Has anyone used this to prevent squash borers? My zuchinni squash yield has been very poor for the last two years when only using insecticides |
Answer: | I am a certified pesticide applicator here's the best advice any one can give you: Read the label including all safety rules, harvest restrictions, what pests it will kill etc.; you can get it for free online from bonide products; if its not labeled for it do not use it. This product is highly effective against a wide variety of bugs but is especially effective against beetles & other hard shelled insects such as fleas & ticks. If worms are your issue this will work too but there are other products that work on worms such as BT & pyrethroids (bonide products sells these as well). The chemical is Permetherin; many products contain Permetherin; they are not all the same strength & thus are not used (labeled) for same things. Always read the label & use the correct amount of any pesticide & do not use the same pesticide all the time. Following label instructions & changing products (modes of action) minimizes the changes of resistance to the product & ensures satisfactory results. |

User questions & answers
Question: | will this kill potato beatle / potato bugs |
Answer: | You probably "could" use it to prevent/kill grubs (and other insects), but probably should not use it in your garden(s) if you intend to eat the veggies you grow, since it IS a chemical. Grubs typically won't eat most veggie or flower roots anyway as they tend to be a bit "hard" and "biter" for grubs liking, so you shouldn't even need to use any in your veggie or flower beds or garden areas, they do however enjoy grass roots as they tend to be much thinner, softer and "sweeter" to grubs, so use it only on your lawn/grass. You can also heavily apply this product and NOT worry about any lawn damage. I double the recommended spreader setting and it never negatively affects my lawn and I never get grubs anymore. Good Luck! |
Question: | will this work on squash bugs |
Answer: | Grubex will not harm earthworms, nematodes or soil bacteria and does not pose a health risk to wildlife when applied according to label instructions. |
Question: | I am trying to get rid of spider mites, has anyone had success? I have read that i would need a stronger dosage than that listed in the label |
Answer: | Yes, you can apply at the same time, I have for years! I apply this product each year 7 to 10 days after the LAST frost (usually early to mid March in my area of NYC), that way the soil has started to soften up and the products can get down and do their job, at the same time I apply a "Scotts" brand Crabgrass Pre-Emergent (which only kills/prevents SOME weed types) and so I also throw down a broader spectrum weed n feed to combat most/all other types of weeds and I also get a lawn food and a soil food down as well and I always overseed heavily each fall. Since figuring out my lawn and soil, what it needs and what works best for me, I have not had any grub or carbgrass issues in about 12 years. Good Luck |
Question: | It states it's a concentrate, so how much product do you mix with water |
Answer: | GrubEx1 will control the grub larvae of following insects: Japanese beetles, Asiatic garden beetles, Black turfgrass ataenius, Aphodius spp., European chafers, Green June beetles, May/June beetles, Northern masked chafers, Oriental beetles, Southern masked chafers, Caterpillars (including Armyworms, Cutworms, Sod websorms), Billbug grubs and crane fly larvae (including European Crane Flies). It will also suppress chinchbugs. |
