Answer:	You should never use personal repellent on your gear. I would not suggest it. There are other products made to treat your gear that will not break down the fibers.

Question:	Does this aerosol bottle last as long as the (much more expensive) pump spray bottles? Trying to understand why these are so much cheaper
Answer:	The reason the pump spray bottles cost more is that the contents of the bottle consists of the listed active ingredients plus some water, whereas the aerosol spray is largely the gas propellant. My guess is that the spray bottle would last longer, since most of the product would get on your skin instead of disappearing into the air as gas.
Question:	So why would I gamble with a chemical called picaridin on my skin vs. a chemical called deet on my skin. Either way, right
Answer:	I did some searches for technical data before deciding whether to go with DEET or Picaridin. Both are listed as efficacious and safe on the EPA website (see below to use EPA link to search based on your requirements, e.g. type of insects, length of time to reapply). Both DEET and Picaridin can be useful in deterring mosquitos and ticks for extended period (~9 or more hours) if formulated with the appropriate concentration (e.g. 20% Picaridin or 98.1% DEET). This is a pretty restrictive feature for those of us wearing our prescription glasses, polyester and nylon clothes, and carrying packs made of nylon and other synthetics. Answer:	If by sand flies you mean no-see-ums, no it doesn’t work. We didn’t have a mosquito issue so not sure how it works on them. We were on Sanibel Island in September and the no-see-ums were terrible, and this didn’t help.
