12 best insect killer for lawn granules
Insect killer for lawn granules is a type of pest control product designed to help homeowners and gardeners protect their lawns from various insects and pests that can damage grass and plants. These granules typically contain insecticides or natural ingredients that are effective in controlling and repelling a wide range of insects commonly found in lawns and gardens. Here are some key points about insect killer for lawn granules:
Purpose: The primary purpose of insect killer for lawn granules is to eliminate or deter common lawn pests such as ants, grubs, chinch bugs, fleas, ticks, and other insects that can cause damage to your lawn, garden, and outdoor living spaces.
Types of Ingredients:
- Chemical Insecticides: Many insect killer granules contain chemical insecticides like imidacloprid, bifenthrin, or lambda-cyhalothrin, which are designed to kill a wide range of pests upon contact or ingestion.
- Natural Ingredients: Some products use natural ingredients like diatomaceous earth, neem oil, or essential oils to repel and deter insects without harmful chemicals.
Application: To use these granules effectively, homeowners typically spread them evenly across the lawn using a spreader or by hand. It's important to follow the product's instructions regarding the application rate and timing.
Seasonal Use: Insect killer granules are often applied during specific seasons, such as spring and early summer, when many lawn pests are most active. Some products also offer year-round protection.
Targeted Pests: Different products may target specific pests, so it's important to choose one that addresses the particular insect issues you're facing in your lawn or garden.
Safety: Always follow safety precautions outlined on the product label, including wearing protective gear if necessary, keeping pets and children away from treated areas until the product has settled, and avoiding over-application.
Effectiveness: The effectiveness of insect killer granules can vary depending on the product, the type of pests in your area, and the proper application. It's important to choose a product that is suitable for your specific pest problems.
Environmental Impact: Some homeowners may prefer natural or organic options to minimize the environmental impact of chemical pesticides. Be sure to read product labels to understand their environmental implications.
Storage: Store insect killer granules in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture, to ensure their efficacy over time.
Complementary Pest Control: In addition to granules, you may want to consider other forms of pest control such as insect sprays, traps, and integrated pest management (IPM) strategies to effectively manage pest populations in your lawn and garden.
Remember to carefully read and follow the product's label instructions to ensure safe and effective use of insect killer for lawn granules. Proper lawn care practices, including regular mowing, watering, and soil maintenance, can also help reduce the attractiveness of your lawn to pests.

Spectracide Triazicide Insect Killer Products
There’s an army of insects out there looking for the next lawn or garden to feast on. Don’t let them turn the fruits of your labor into an all-you-can-eat buffet.
Spectracide Triazicide Insect Killer products are formulated for broad-spectrum control of outdoor insects, whether you’re controlling pests in your lawn, garden or landscape. They even take care of bugs below ground, leaving plant-munching insects with nowhere to hide.
How do you know if you have insect damage?
In the heat of summer, we all have brown patches in our lawns. If it’s irregular or mottled, the browning could be a symptom of lawn pests. To test, pick a spot in the affected area of your lawn and spread the grass blades so the surface roots are visible – this will give you a good view of turf-feeding bugs. If the browning is fairly uniform over your entire lawn, it’s most likely caused by hot and dry weather.
Aphids
These green, yellow, brown, red or black pear-shaped insects with long legs and antennae aren’t easily disturbed. They suck plant juices out of the leaves, stems or roots of plants.
Ticks
In the same family as scorpions and spiders, these tiny arachnids are blood-feeding parasites found in tall grass. They carry infections such as Lyme disease, and females inflate from flat insects to oval shape after feeding.
Fleas
Found primarily on pets, fleas are just 3/16 inch long, but they carry several diseases, including typhus, bubonic plague and tapeworm. They usually appear in clusters of two or three on human ankles or legs or anywhere on pets.
Japanese beetles
A constant source of aggravation for gardeners, Japanese
beetles eat 300 types of trees and plants. Metallic green with coppery brown wing covers, these 3/8 inch-long creatures are often found around homes and gardens, attacking flowers, fruits and lawns.
Grub control
The tough lawn grub can cause real damage to your lawn and landscape. Whitish and c-shaped, grubs feed on grass roots, making lawns incapable of drawing necessary water and nutrients from the soil. Grubs are highly active during the summer – adult females generally lay their eggs in the soil during July, and the newly hatched grubs begin to feed on turf roots in early August, causing grass to die off in irregular patches.
For grub control, use Spectracide Triazicide Insect Killer products in late spring, then again in the fall if a second generation appears.

User questions & answers
Question: | is this biodegradable |
Answer: | I question your competency. Yes it is biodegradable |
Question: | How often is reapplication needed |
Answer: | Here in Western PA we have been having some serious rain issues. I don't doubt the manufacturers specs on the package about using the product every ninety days. However, in my case? About three days after application we had RAIN. The resulting plethora of gnats, skeeter's, flies, no-see-ums" leads me to doubt the product was invented by Noah and could survive a flood. So, if the rain is scheduled to leave for at least a week. I will re-apply. I have had great success with Ortho products in the past. |
Question: | Can pets be in the yard |
Answer: | I put it out in my yard and let my dogs loose in the yard couple of hours later and they were fine. I also have a few stray cats that were go though my yard and lay around in my yard and they were fine also. |
Question: | Does this kill millipedes? We figured in we got infested outside after buying garden plants at one of the big box garden stores |
Answer: | More than likely, centipedes are listed on the bag among what it kills so i would imagine it does. |

Ants
Ants are common pests throughout the world. They are a nuisance, largely because of the annoyance caused by their presence - constructing mounds in the lawn or invading the home from the yard in search of food.
Fleas
Adult fleas are no larger than 1/8 inch long. They are reddish-brown, wingless insects that are laterally compressed, so they look as if they are walking on edge.
Ticks
Although ticks are commonly thought of as insects, they are actually arachnids like spiders and mites. They have 4 pairs of legs and no antennae. They lie in wait for a passing deer, pet, or person to walk near the shrub or grass they are perched on.
Spiders
Spiders can be found throughout the country. If you have the occasional fly or gnat in the house, chances are you’ll also have spiders in the house. Spiders live on bugs, but not enough to be considered for pest control.
Chinch Bugs
Adult chinch bugs are about one-fifth of an inch long and black with white wings folded over their backs. Chinch bugs feed on many kinds of lawn grasses, but St. Augustine grass and Zoysia grass are favorites.
Cutworms
If you see spots of brown grass and birds pecking at your lawn, you could be facing a cutworm infestation.
Mole Crickets
Mole crickets can be twice as long as their singing cousins - and their tunneling can ruin your lawn.
Sod Webworms
Sod webworms are the larvae of lawn moths. They live in the root level of your lawn and munch up the grass leaves. At root level, you’ll see small white tubes made of silky web. At dusk, you might even see the worms themselves.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be used under fruit trees ie. Apple, pears, blueberries etc?? I need to be 100% sure and would like responses fro those whom are certain |
Answer: | I always want to give good information on this poisen. I can not answer your question. I use Bayer poisen for the yard and around the headges and for flea controll. I contacted Bayer about useing it during the hot summer months in Fl when the tempature reaches above 90*; Bayer informed me that it stops killing insects above 90*. For fruit trees you need to call their 800 # and ask them or your county Agracultrial Agent. Have a safe growing season. Dallas |
Question: | Will this work in flower beds with weed fabric and ceder mulch on top? Worried it won't get down to the grubs |
Answer: | This substance is a solvent. it will eventually dissolve and absolve in ground, so it would work when spread over mulch. |
Question: | does this kill chiggers? the normal insect killers won't work because they're arachnids, but noticed it does kill spiders and ticks |
Answer: | Yes it specifically lists chiggers as a pest it will control. Thanks for considering your purchase from Amazon through AgCareDirect. |
Question: | will this kill honeybees |
Answer: | Thats a good QUESTION. I dont know I would call Bayer and talk to them. Also make sure you read the MSDS INFORMATION and the instructions on how to speead it. Bayer is good for killing fleas and ticks. It lasts three months and use it untill the out door temps hit 90* or above. I live in Jax Fl. I use a comertial pest controll service year round and I have them spray for fleas during the 90* hot summer months. Comertial liquid poisen kills the fleas and ticks above 90*. I either just dump the bag in my spreader or sometimes use rubber gloves and speead it around the foundation of my house to kill roaches before they have a chance to get in. Also, BAYER does not kill anything if you use it during the hot days of summer when the tempature is above 90*. I called Bayer and read it on the MSDS sheet. Hope I helped you out. I was a Hamat Tech when I was a Firefighter now I am retired. Have a good spring. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you use this in vegetable garden |
Answer: | No strap. Easy to carry by the handle though. |
Question: | will it harm earthworms |
Answer: | I no longer have the box it came but the tank has "20020" in raised plastic written on it. However, in looking at the item listed as 'Chapin 20020" there is a differnce in the wand tip, the spray lever does not lock 'on' (looks like there is a place for piece of plastic to slide for locking), and there may be a few other differences. It may be that Chapin uses the same tank and takes away some bits of plastic to make stripped down models. |
Question: | Can I use with crabgrass preventer |
Answer: | This is NOT the right model for spraying sealers and/or stains. The correct models are 25010, 25012, 25020, and 30600. See the Chapin website. |
Question: | Does this kill Vine Weevil grubs? Thank you |
Answer: | It will vary based on the product you are using so read the directions carefully for every product you spray. But in general, 1 gallon for 1,000 sq. ft. That said, I just used it on a lawn bowling green which is about 14,000 sq. ft. The pesticide I used said 1 gallon to cover 1,000 sq. ft. That would have been 12 gallons to cover the green, but when I had finished I used half that amount. This may have been because I walked too fast (I walked about the pace I do when I spread fertilizer). So, depending on how fast you walk, how comprehensive you want your coverage to be, and what the pesticide label suggest, I would say 1 gallon covers at least 1,000 sq. ft and at most 2,000 sq. ft. I also recommend using a dye/colorant so you can tell where you have sprayed and how think the coverage is. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the name of the fungicide in this product |
Answer: | Propiconazole - 0.51% as the active ingredient, other ingredients - 99.49%. This is (exactly, by words) all about ingredients I found on the bag. |
Question: | how come this is $12 more expensive than the exact thing at home centers |
Answer: | Shipping price is built in to Amazon's listed price. Since Amazon controls the markup via algorithm, sellers often pre-factor shipping into the listed price to ensure Amazon doesn't mark them lower than they choose sell it themselves. |
Question: | Will this kill mushrooms |
Answer: | I had reached out to Bayer/BioAdvanced and their response was "BioAdvanced Fungus Control For Lawns is not formulated to kill mushrooms. The product is only formulated to control listed fungal lawn diseases, such as Brown Patch and Dollar Spot." I tried using this for mushrooms and it does not work. |
Question: | What is the dilution rate? 1 oz. per gallon? 2? 3? 4? I want to use the Ortho Dial 'N Spray sprayer for better control |
Answer: | I wish it did have a dilution rate. Put this stuff in a sprayer that does because out of this bottle it goes FAST. I hooked/sprayed and the bottle was gone in under 2 minutes. |

Curative - Use on lawns to treat an existing disease. Apply at first sign of disease.
Preventative - To prevent diseases, make first application before conditions are favorable for diseases.

EZ-Grip One Touch Sprayer
Application for large areas just got easier. Simply attach this product your garden hose, turn on the water and use your thumb to activate the sprayer. Use this tip when finished spraying: turn off the hose, then turn the sprayer on once more to relieve the water pressure before detaching.
Rainproof Protection

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this work on carpenter ants and termites |
Answer: | It works well for Ants |
Question: | Does this work on ant mounds |
Answer: | Ant mounds are exactly why I purchased this product, and it works very well. Sprinkle the product lightly over the mound and surrounding area (no need to over do), and then water very gently with light shower nozzle setting (do not cause runoff). Ant die off is quick and long-lasting. Product is toxic to aquatic life, so do no apply within 100 feet of lakes, lagoons, creeks or waterways. |
Question: | Pet friendly |
Answer: | I have been using these granules for many years- on my deck, garden, around my house perimeter... I have two small dogs. The product is pet & people friendly as long as you follow the directions on the Ortho label- "People and pets may re-enter area after product is watered in and allowed to dry" |
Question: | Does this work on crickets |
Answer: | Chickens and Guineas work great on crickets! |
