14 best bed bugs
Bed bugs are small, parasitic insects that feed on the blood of humans and animals. They are a common household pest that can be found in beds, furniture, and other areas where people sleep or rest. Here is some information related to bed bugs, repellents, pest control, and patio lawn garden areas:
Bed Bug Repellents:
- Bed bug repellents are substances or products designed to deter bed bugs from biting humans or infesting areas.
- While some repellents claim to be effective, there is limited scientific evidence to support their effectiveness in preventing bed bug infestations.
- Common repellents include essential oils like lavender, peppermint, and tea tree oil. These are often used in homemade sprays, but their efficacy is questionable.
Pest Control for Bed Bugs:
- Effective pest control for bed bugs typically involves a combination of methods, including chemical treatments and non-chemical measures.
- Chemical treatments may include the use of insecticides specifically designed for bed bug eradication. These should be applied by trained professionals.
- Non-chemical measures include thorough cleaning, vacuuming, washing bedding and clothing in hot water, and using mattress encasements to trap bed bugs.
Preventing Bed Bug Infestations:
- Prevention is key when it comes to bed bugs. To prevent infestations, it's important to be cautious when traveling and staying in hotels, as bed bugs can hitch a ride on luggage.
- Regularly inspect your home, especially beds, couches, and other furniture, for signs of bed bug activity, such as small reddish-brown bugs, tiny eggs, or dark fecal spots.
- Avoid buying second-hand furniture without thoroughly inspecting it for signs of infestation.
Patio Lawn Garden and Bed Bugs:
- While bed bugs primarily infest indoor spaces, they can occasionally be found in outdoor areas if they are brought there inadvertently.
- Bed bugs do not typically live in outdoor garden or patio areas as they require a stable, warm environment to thrive.
It's important to note that dealing with a bed bug infestation can be challenging, and it often requires the assistance of a pest control professional. If you suspect a bed bug problem in your home, it's advisable to seek professional help promptly to effectively address the issue.Additionally, always follow the guidance and recommendations of experts in pest control for the most effective and safe methods of dealing with bed bugs.

User questions & answers
Question: | How full of fleas must it get before U need to replaced glue disc |
Answer: | So heat really isn't what is attracting the fleas it is a factor but not the main thing it's the color white so any night light bulb will work and several led do give off quite a bit of heat but when you use this trap you really want dark area and put it on the floor where they can get to it another way to do this is with a plate of water with dish soap in it btw |
Question: | can I use a LED night light bulb? Does it make a difference |
Answer: | These traps use C7 replacement bulbs ( http://www.amazon.com/Triangle-Bulbs-T20421-Incandescent-25-Pack/dp/B0036ZQSX4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1397597637&sr=8-2&keywords=c7+replacement+bulbs ) . Also note that these are the old style Christmas tree light bulbs and you can get four pacts at Wal-Mart for as little as 25 cents in their after Christmas sales, I bought one hundred just so never have to worry about them again at that price last year. Either way the bulbs are relatively easy to find and last for a reasonable time (the replacements that is, the ones that came with the traps don't last long). As a person with five cats these traps are a godsend. Hope that helps. |
Question: | does it fit ultimate trap |
Answer: | M230 is the actual trap with the plastic frame and the small light bulb and the power cord. This is the base unit. It comes with a few disposable sticky discs.M231 is the REFILL kit for the M230 that contains just sticky discs. The manufacturer recommends changing the sticky discs about once every two weeks because they can become less sticky or full of pests. This trap attracts bugs to the warmth of the light, then they get stuck on the sticky disc and die. The disc is thrown away and replaced. I have been using this trap and I have also caught spiders, crickets, and a moth (as well as numerous fleas). I did not expect it to work but it does. Replacement bulbs are the nightlight bulbs sold in many grocery, hardware, and general merchandise stores. |
Question: | What size bulb are they? C |
Answer: | We have a 1400 sq. ft house with 3 dogs and a cat. The dogs are let out and in for their needs. We live in deep south Texas (RGV) and have had a horrible flea infestation this year. I bought two of these units last December and have since bought refills as needed. These units really work. We have one unit in our bedroom (the dogs are little guys and sleep with us) and one in our main living area which is the second most animal habituated area. Both units sit on the floor. Just this past week we had another outbreak; the only reason I know this is the unit in the bedroom was loaded with fleas when I looked at it in the morning. I check both units most every day. We also treat our animals with Comfortis a once a month pill that kills all fleas or ticks within 30 minutes of their getting on the animals. A hidden benefit of the traps is they operate using a 4 watt night light bulb so we have light to walk by should we get up during the night. The unit also uses a paper insert wit a super strong glue that traps the fleas, real simple to change. I suggest you get and maintain backup inserts and a small supply of 4 watt bulbs should you buy the traps. Based upon our experience we will never be without these units. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I use a small amount in my machine with laundry soap when washing clothes and linens |
Answer: | Terminex told me that simply drying the clothes in the dryer kills them off. I would think that putting it in the washer would not only be a waste of money, but potentially dangerous with it touching sensitive skin. Simply bag them in an air tight garbage bag til the problem is gone. |
Question: | can i use it on furniture |
Answer: | I only used it on furniture that doesn't come into contact with skin. Back and sides of couches and chairs. |

About Harris
Problem solving has a long heritage at PF Harris. In 1924, two years after its founding, the company tackled the Calvin Coolidge White House, which had been overrun for years by roaches and water bugs. Harris’s product was so successful in eliminating the scourge that he was described on the front page of the Washington Times as a "vermin slayer" who has just fought a decisive, winning battle with a horde of cockroaches which infested the lower regions of the Executive Mansion.
Over the course of the next few months Harris took “his final feast” to dozens of government buildings, including the Senate Office Building, the Department of Justice, the Supreme Court and Walter Reed Hospital. Success followed success: Each superintendent of the various buildings was highly satisfied with the results.
The company today stays nimble enough to respond to changing market demands, leading the way in the development of numerous products, including natural insect repellents like Swamp Gator and Swamp Gnat which repel biting insects without using deet. Beyond the products it sells, Harris helps customers find easy and economical solutions to pest problems through helpful labeling, instructive videos and personal advice.
It’s a brand with a reliable past and an innovative future. PF Harris is America’s oldest EPA-registered company. With more than 55 products, the company provides solutions to treat everything from roaches and bed bugs to scorpions and stink bugs.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this product safe for my small dog |
Answer: | Hello, we also have the Bed Bug Killer 2oz travel size bottles . |
Question: | Not sure if we have fleas or bed bugs, but will this kill fleas if we have those with the bed bugs |
Answer: | You can use this product to end bed bugs anywhere. Since it is non-toxic and non-staining. You can certainly spry inside the car, which we always recommend as part of your treatment. Many people only treated room without treating the car, ended up in re-infestation. |
Question: | Help me, does this product work? I only see a few every now and then. And Tips |
Answer: | Usually the critters hide somewhere within about 10 feet of the bed (and many times in the mattress/bed). I bought the gallon size, and with a pressure sprayer, sprayed the entire perimeter of the room, walls, cracks, ceiling, and all outlets/furnace vents first (to kill them if they "scatter"). I then dusted, pretty heavily with diatomaceous earth on all flat surfaces and especially under the bed (to kill them if they walk along the floor). Covered the mattress and box spring with a bed-bug proof cover. Washed all bed linens/clothes/soft goods in "HOT" washer, or at least a 40 minute "HOT dryer treatment. Then sprayed all the bedframe, nightstands, dressers, etc. with EcoRaider. Every two weeks I reapplied the EcoRaider and I didn't vacuum up the diatomaceous earth dust under the bed. Look on YouTube and the EcoRaider website for suggested protocol to follow. They are really easy to kill, but amazingly smart at hiding out and avoiding all treatments, so you have to be diligent. |
Question: | Why does harris include here both the diatomaceous earth powder, and also the silica powder? when do i use each? or both? in separate places or same p |
Answer: | Nothing. Bed bugs do not like the scent of lavender and they would avoid it; however, if you have bed bugs just pay to exterminate of purchase Eco Raider. I bought this for someone who had a "light" case. She started having bites from bed bugs in 1 room. She used this for 1 week and they are gone. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I spray this on bedsheets |
Answer: | Yes you can. I spray it on hotel sheets before I get in the bed and it doesn't cause any kind of irritation. |
Question: | Will this kill fleas too |
Answer: | I used this product on and around my bed and also my dogs bedding and believe it did kill fleas also. No bites on me, no scratching by dogs. |
Question: | How much is needed to get rid of the bedbugs |
Answer: | Thanks for your question! The level of infestation and number of beds infested will play a large role in determining the answer to your question. If you have one room that has a problem and you have for example a queen size bed. 1 bottle should be all you need with a fair amount left over. This will take into account spraying down beds, box spring, and around furniture and carpet. The larger the bed and room the more product you will need. 2 may be better for a king size bed and larger room. Please contact us with any other questions!Thank you!-Eco Defense |
Question: | Is there anyone, who has not received this product to reivew, who can tell me if this product works? Thank you |
Answer: | This is often mistaken for EcoRaider, which has better reviews & is used & endorsed by many professional exterminators & rated best on a number of review sites. We used this once (2 bottles & repeated 2 weeks later) with mixed results. We have had 2 other infestations in other apartments & 2 bottles of EcoRaider did the job 100%. Buy by the gallon if you can & treat a second time 2 weeks later. Also, bedbugs only bite certain people but ignore others. I would never have even known we had infestations if my wife hadn't come down with a number of bites. EcoRaider is also less expensive for 16 ounces at about $15.95 for 16 ounces. Last November it was only $12.95 (I don't know if EcoRaider raised its price or Amazon did - a lot of Amazon products are now as much as 25% more expensive than the same ones I can get at Target & Walmart (which also offer free 2-day delivery to your door without an annual Prime fee!). |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the difference between Harris diatomaceous earth and Harris bed bug killer diatomaceous earth |
Answer: | None that I know of. |
Question: | Is it pet friendly |
Answer: | Yes. This stuff just comes from "diatoms". Basically, their crustaceans. It cuts the bugs exoskeleton and they dry out, but it takes time for them to pass through the dust for it to cut them up and they lose body water. Doesn't hurt us or animals, but I wouldn't dust it to the extent that you and the pets are breathing it so much. Make sure you change your house filters often or it can clog up the systems and you will have another issue. Whatever you use...if it says "residual", that is what is not safe for pets. It can get in their pads and absorb poison into their feet. Most other control treatments just need to get dry for 8hrs. |
Question: | how would this be used to prevent bed bugs |
Answer: | I have lived through this nightmare with tenants bringing. If you rent, do NOT try to do it yourself, depending on the infestation they can be hard to eradicate. Do the right thing and notify. Don't risk taking them to someone else's property if you move. Look up how to check for them carefully with flashlight. I used a professional company--3 sprays 2 weeks apart using a different mix chemicals each time, and still a tenant saw one that got away in a box of stuff she had and did not check it carefully when un-bagging, that was 10 days after 3rd spray so had them come and spray again and check, and they got rid of their old mattress/box spring and two ripped couches. I think it had been going on for months, but new roommate was sensitive to bites and figured it out, so I would say they bred for months. The prep work is crucial to winning the war (you can look that up,plenty of info online) plus I have used this along edges of rooms, corners of closets, backs of dressers, drawer backs and inside when drawer removed, sockets, and will continue to do every few weeks after vacuum for safeguard. You don't usually see them as they hide during day, unless you have a heavier infestation, alcohol will kill them on contact and used in spray bottle for shoes and some tiny areas. All exterminating companies will do a free inspection to see if you have them and not hard to learn to check yourself and where. I highly advise to be diligent for several months and not let your guard down to quick! |
Question: | Does this product have any other ingredient besides DE |
Answer: | This is a mechanical insecticide, that is to say it is Diatomaceous Earth powder, a soft siliceous powder which lacerates the abdomen or if ingested kills the insect within 48 hours. The insect quite literally dies the " death of a thousand cuts " . It's 85% DE and 15% other which is most likely a filler unspecified however. So far my experience with it has been very positive, I haven't seen any insects since distributing this powder. I do recommend the use of a dust mask when dusting your rooms as we should always err on the side of safety. If you have a problem you'll love this product . BTW remember it must remain dry to be effective and keep in mind that with these type infestations persistence is key to winning so don't let up. |

Our Story
Identify, Eliminate & Prevent
Harris Diatomaceous Earth Bed Bug Powder is an important part of the bed bug treatment process. Using a liquid spray and mattress encasement cover along with the powder will increase your chances of success. Below are the steps to identify, eliminate and prevent bed bugs infestations.
1. Identify
Appearance
Bed Bugs are tan to brown blood sucking parasites up to 5mm long (roughly the size of an apple seed) with a flat, oval shaped body. Bed Bugs are often confused with the following insects:
- Fleas
- Lice
- Lint/Seeds
- Carpet Beetle
Signs of Activity
Many people believe that bed bugs are too small to be seen. This isn’t true. While Bed Bugs are usually found in the bed, they can navigate around the bedroom and even into the living room. Bed bugs spend the day in harborages close to a bed, couch or chair that people sit in for long periods. They come out at night and crawl to a bed or chair to get a blood meal.
To check your bed for activity, look along the underside of the seams of the mattress. In most cases, if you have bed bugs you will notice dark colored fecal matter in this area.
Next, check the cracks of the headboard and bed frame. Bed bugs, if squished, will leave a dark red stain behind. In cases of heavy infestation, the blood sucking parasites may be found all around the room most commonly in the following places:
- Folds of curtains
- Seams of chairs and couches
- Behind wall hangings
- Edges of electrical outlets and window frames
Bites
Bed bugs usually feed between at night while we are asleep. They can feed up to 10 minutes before returning to a hiding area to digest the meal. After feeding, bed bugs may be dormant for 5 to 7 days while they digest the blood meal.
Although the bite may not be immediately felt, people often react to the proteins of the bed bug saliva introduced during biting. Usually, a reddish spot may develop, associated with some swelling and itching. There may be little response immediately following the bite, with peak itchiness being noticed one to two days later. Repeated exposure to bed bug bites may produce more intensive reactions and itchiness. However, these reactions are highly variable and some people may show absolutely no signs of being bitten while others react strongly. Fortunately, testing has determined that bed bugs are incapable of transmitting human pathogens.
2. Eliminate
- Wash and dry bed linens and furniture covers at high temperatures. Minimum drying time: 20 minutes.
- Disassemble bed. Thoroughly vacuum all six sides of box springs, mattress and bed components. Vacuum furniture, carpets and floors.
- Shake container prior to spraying mattress, box springs, bed components, flooring and baseboards. Allow to dry completely.
- Enclose mattress and box springs in encasements to prevent bed bug entry and exit. Do not remove encasements.
- Apply powder into cracks and crevices in furniture and rooms.
Most insecticides used for bed bug control are primarily of the pyrethroid> Vacuuming
Thoroughly vacuum all 6 sides of box springs and mattresses. Vacuum all cracks and crevices within the furniture of the bed and nearby electrical outlets, baseboards and floors prior to treatment. Empty the vacuum contents into a plastic bag and discard in trash.
Handling BeddingSheets and other bedding can be easily disinfected by laundering that involves a dryer cycle. The high temperatures involved in drying are critical to successfully kill bed bugs, with exposure to temperatures exceeding 120º F for 20 minutes usually sufficient to kill all life stages.
When stripping beds during a bed bug treatment, pull the sheets carefully so as not to dislodge eggs or drop bed bugs onto the floor where they may be missed by other treatments. Accidental spread of bed bugs can also be prevented by bagging the bedding as it is moved to the laundry.
Mattress / Boxspring EncasementsMattress encasements enclose your mattress and box spring and are an integral step in the treatment process for two reasons: Firs, they protect your investment in bedding. Second, they reduce the areas where bed bugs can hide nearest to you. Water-resistant, tight-weave fabric prevents the entry of even the smallest bed bug.
Disposal of Infested ItemsDisposal may be considered for mattresses, box springs, couches or other furniture that is heavily infested with bed bugs. If this is done, proper disposal should be ensured. Leaving such items on the street for disposal may cause them to be scavenged, which will spread infestations to new dwellings. Be careful when removing the items from the structure so that bed bugs will not become dislodged and infest other areas inside.
3. Prevent

- Re-pack luggage contents into sealable plastic bags

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it really work |
Answer: | Yes. It was a nightmare. After having the house treated by professional they still came back. Its been 4 months and no sign of any bugs. This product really work. And I can sleep at night. |
Question: | Will i have to spray all carpeted areas ? in my daily diligent searches i have only seen 2 adult bb..if i do need to spray all carpeted areas, can i l |
Answer: | It's very safe, you can spray it on your mattress, on the floor, anywhere they can hide. If you've seen two adults there could be hundreds of nymphs in your upholstery and rug. Spray rug under bed, inspect and spray all matters and box springs seams, inside and any hiding places in furniture. Etc. I have two cats. It didn't affect them at all but kills the bugs affectively |
Question: | Does this have a sprayer |
Answer: | I did not get the larger one, but the smaller one has a pump on it. You can get a bottle from the dollar store and just pour some in it. The stuff works great!! |
Question: | does ecoraider have retentivity i.e. does the effect last after spraying ? if it does, how does it achieve its retentivity |
Answer: | Not really. I read the research report from Rutgers Entomology Lab on this & other bio-pesticides & they say it works when sprayed directly on the bugs & it only achieves 100% mortality rates at 10 days. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this have a residual effect |
Answer: | It does leave a slight tackiness when sprayed on the floor; however when fully dried there's no problem. As far as on fabric; no it doesn't leave any residue. Works great by the way. |
Question: | What is the difference between the black label spray & the yelloe bottle of Harris spray |
Answer: | The one that works best is the black label that's egg kill & resistant. I tried both and the one labeled pyrethroid resistant is by far the best. |
Question: | Is it eco fiendly |
Answer: | Probably not. Just don't inhale large quantities when applying or make a habit of breathing it when it hasn't dried on the surface it's sprayed on. It's quite odorless. |
Question: | So what is the actual product you are selling here? The pics seem useless for determining what the actual product is that is being sold |
Answer: | I cannot say what is in the bottle. I can say it is very good at getting of bed bugs. We had a visitor one time that left his bed bugs with us. We tried everything we could find in the retail market...……...no good, we still had the bugs. Finally I said enough is enough. I invested $50.00 in a gallon of the "Harris Pyrethroid Resistant" bed bug killer. Before using this I would see bed bugs in different rooms of the house; within 2 weeks of spraying the house bed bugs were reduced greatly. There has not been a bug in and around the beds for over a month. Can't say I have gotten rid of all bugs yet, but working on it. This spray is well worth the money. You will like the results. |
