10 best ant killer indoors
Indoor ant killers are products designed to eliminate ant infestations within your home. They fall under the category of pest control and are commonly used in households to address ant problems. Here's what you should know about indoor ant killers:
Types of Indoor Ant Killers:
- Sprays: Ant killer sprays are readily available and can be used to directly target ants when you see them. They typically contain insecticides or chemicals that kill ants on contact.
- Baits: Ant baits are a popular choice for indoor ant control. They consist of a toxic substance enclosed in a bait station. Ants are attracted to the bait, consume it, and carry it back to the colony, where it can eliminate the entire nest.
- Gels and Granules: Some ant killers come in the form of gels or granules. These products are applied in areas where ants are commonly seen or along ant trails. Ants consume or come into contact with these substances and are subsequently killed.
Targeted Application: Indoor ant killers should be applied in areas where ants are active, such as along baseboards, near entry points, or along ant trails. It's important to follow the product's instructions carefully to ensure effective use.
Safety Considerations: When using indoor ant killers, it's essential to prioritize safety. Keep them out of reach of children and pets, and follow the manufacturer's guidelines regarding application and storage.
Residual Effect: Some indoor ant killers offer a residual effect, which means they continue to work for an extended period after application. This can help prevent future ant infestations.
Ant Species: Different ant species may require different treatment methods. Make sure you identify the type of ants infesting your home to choose the most appropriate ant killer.
Prevention: While indoor ant killers can effectively eliminate existing ant infestations, it's also crucial to take preventive measures. Keep your home clean, store food in airtight containers, seal entry points, and address moisture issues, as ants are often attracted to food and water sources.
Natural Alternatives: If you prefer to avoid chemical ant killers, there are also natural alternatives such as diatomaceous earth, which is a non-toxic powder that can be used to create a barrier that deters ants.
Consult a Professional: For severe or persistent ant infestations, it may be necessary to consult a pest control professional who can assess the situation and provide targeted treatment.
Remember that the effectiveness of indoor ant killers may vary depending on the product and the severity of the infestation. It's a good practice to read product labels, follow instructions, and, if needed, seek advice from a pest control expert to ensure effective ant control within your home.

TERRO Liquid Ant Baits are specifically formulated to allow worker ants to consume the product and survive long enough to carry the liquid back to the nest and deliver a dose to the rest of the colony . The liquid ant bait stations prevent the bait from drying out and provide the ants with a continuous supply of liquid, day and night. Monitor the baits regularly for activity, but do not interfere with the ants or baits. Replace with additional baits when the first set is depleted. User questions & answers
Question: | Why is the pricing so weird? It's actually 2x more in bulk! Did someone make a mistake? Sorry for the rhetorical question, silly vendor person |
Answer: | It has to do with who the actual "seller" is. If you select a quantity of "1", in this case, it is "sold and fulfilled" by Amazon. If you select a quantity of "2" it is "sold" by another company while still being "fulfilled" by Amazon. Yes, both quantities are, as of this writing, "fulfilled" by Amazon but that just tells you that Amazon stores, packages, and ships both items(1 and 2 packs) even though there are, in reality, two different "sellers". If you click back and forth on the quantity selector you'll see the "sold by" name change. Look just under the price after you switch. The seller of the 2 pack sets the price whereas the seller of the 1 pack(Amazon) sets its own price. I'm sure Amazon buys the 1 pack in very large quantities and, therefore, can get a bigger discount, per piece, than the other "seller" can get, per piece, for the 2-pack. |
Question: | How safe is this product in the kitchen? We have a few ants crawling around our kitchen sink and would like to place one of these bait stations on our kitchen counter. Bad idea? Thanks |
Answer: | This is a generally safe product according to my research. Make sure to read the packaging and follow direction. (FOR INDOOR USE READ THE FOLLOWING) One lesson I learned the hard way: the sugary syrup is irresistible to ants, even though it is laced with poison. This means when you use Tarro, you're actually providing access to free food! The poison will work on the ants and it takes about 18-24 hours to kill them... but as you wait after 24 hours, Tarro syrup will attract other thriving colonies into your home. They'll follow the same rich trails laid behind by the previous colony and even scavenge on the carcases of the previously fallen colony. This cycle will continue, attracting ants from far away reaches and allowing them to setup massive colonies within your home. This is especially true with Argentine ants (available throughout the world), which form massive colonies with multiple queens - a trait unique to this type of ant, whereas others will battle for territory. So the lesson learned is simple... once the initial 1 or 2 swarms die down, remove all baits and all forms of food from open spaces in your home; patch up all openings in walls, baseboards, cracks around windows, etc; apply perimeter pesticide around your home; and look for signs of wandering ants in the next week. If you see more ants then you missed an opening and already have an established colony in your wall.... repeat!! Just don't leave out Tarro and keep replenishing, especially in the case of Argentine ants. |
Question: | Is this safe to have around pets? I have a curious cat |
Answer: | I'd say no. My cat knocked one of these over once and licked the syrup. She was fine but it wasn't a fun afternoon (trip to the vet, etc.). Terro sells a version of this that encloses the bait in plastic and has sticky squares to attach them to the floor, counter, or other surfaces. I use those instead now. |
Question: | I have a baby in the house and I would like to use this product to kill ants in my house. Any precautions you suggest before I use this product |
Answer: | The ant trails at my house sometimes go from the floor to the ceiling. I turn the bait so that the liquid will not run out and use Scotch tape to tape it to the wall next to the ant trail. I tape the bait high enough that babies and grand children cannot get to it. It usually takes two days for the ants to disappear. Then three days after they disappear, they return to the trap. Another two days and they disappear again. The second time they disappear is usually the last time I see them at that location. |

TERRO Liquid Ant Baits
Ants can be a problem anywhere – in the home, at work and everywhere in between. To kill common household ants, place TERRO Liquid Ant Baits in areas where they attract foraging ants that take the bait back to the nest. As the bait circulates through the colony, it kills the ants you see and the ones you don’t. The new and improved snap-off tab makes the stations easy to use. To open the bait, hold the station vertically and twist the tab. This opens up the station and allows ants to access the bait. Place the entire station on a flat surface, keeping the ant bait inside the station. Plus, the closed bait stations prevent the bait from drying out to provide the ants with a continuous supply of liquid, day and night. Note: complete control may take up to two weeks.
How Liquid Ant Bait Works
Since this is a bait, initially you will see more ants – but don’t worry, this is a good thing. Why? As ants forage for food, they are easily attracted to the sweet, sugary liquid inside the bait stations. After finding the bait, worker ants consume it and leave behind a pheromone trail leading back to the colony. This trail lets other worker ants know where the newly discovered food supply is. This is why you will see more ants in the beginning.
Meanwhile, the active ingredient, Borax, is slowly interfering with the ant’s digestive system, ultimately killing it, but leaving enough time for the ant to go back and share the dose with the rest of the colony. This slow kill is necessary so that foraging ants can make several trips to the bait. The communal nature of an ant colony allows the bait to be spread to hundreds, if not thousands, of individual ants.
How to Use Liquid Ant Baits
TERRO Liquid Ant Baits are very easy to use. Before placing the bait stations, be sure to remove other sources of food, such as crumbs, sugar and grease spots to prevent attracting ants elsewhere. Do not place bait where you’ve already sprayed insecticides, as the pests may avoid the bait stations.
- Hold the bait station firmly with bait pack tab facing up. Break off the tab being careful not to spill the bait.
- Place the bait station label side up on a flat surface near signs of ants. Place additional bait stations anywhere they may enter your home. For best results, use all bait stations to ensure a sufficient supply for the ants.
- Monitor placements regularly, but do not interfere with the pests or bait stations. Replace when bait is depleted. Complete control may take up to two weeks.
- Once ants are controlled, replace the baits every 3 months to keep them from returning.

Question: | Is this enough for a two story house? Ive spotted 3 or 4 carpenter ants. We have a pest guy buy he's all natural and the stuff he sprayed washed away |
Answer: | They work well for my 2 story home. Put them at both entryway doors and anywhere I have been seeing ants and they seem to clear up the problem. |
Question: | I only see scattering of ants is this going to attract more ants |
Answer: | This product didn't get rid of ants for me. I think it probably attracted more of them then were originally there but didn't kill them. I'm still looking for a product that does the job. |
Question: | Does it kill roaches |
Answer: | It doesn't kill anything! |
Question: | how to open so ants will go in and out of the trap |
Answer: | It is open, ants just do not go in. I could not get 1 ant to go in, even if I put 1 next to the opening. |

Attract and kill the ants you see, as well as the ants you don’t see with TERRO Liquid Ant Killer. The liquid, which contains borax, is specifically designed to allow worker ants to consume the product, survive long enough to carry the liquid back to the nest. Ants consume the liquid ant bait and return to the nest where they pass it around to the rest of the colony. The active ingredient in the bait slowly interferes with the ants’ digestive systems, ultimately killing them. Since this is a bait product, you will initially see more ants as they are attracted to the liquid – but don’t worry, this is a good thing. After the bait is consumed, insect populations will begin to decline. Complete control may take up to two weeks. The 2 oz bottle offers plenty of ant-killing power to eliminate your infestation. For your convenience, TERRO Liquid Ant Killer is easy to use. Simply apply drops of the liquid ant killer directly from the bottle onto the smooth side of the cardboard tiles included on the packaging. Then place indoors on a flat surface near ant trails and other signs of ant activity. The more bait placements, the better. Be sure to leave the ant killer undisturbed while the ants are actively feeding on it.

TERRO ant killer
TERRO Liquid Ant Killer uses borax to kill the ants you see, as well as the ants you don’t see. It works by allowing the forager ants to consume the product and survive long enough to carry the sweet liquid back to the nest and deliver a dose to the rest of the colony. Over time, the bait kills the original ant and any ants that also consume it. Complete control may take two weeks.
To use this ant killing liquid, simply apply the product directly from the bottle onto the provided cardboard squares and place near indoor areas where ants are passing. Place TERRO Liquid Ant Killer near ant trails and other locations where they are numerous. Apply the baited cardboard tiles on the edges of sinks, tubs, windowsills, under food cabinets, along floors and baseboards and in corners.
How to Use TERRO Liquid Ant Killer
TERRO Liquid Ant Killer is very easy to use. Before placing the ant killer, be sure to remove other sources of food, such as crumbs, sugar and grease spots to prevent attracting them elsewhere. Do not place where you’ve already sprayed insecticides, as the pests may avoid the ant killer.
1. Tear the "Place TERRO Here" cardboard tiles from the packaging along the perforated lines. Then, apply drops of the liquid ant killer directly from the bottle onto the smooth side of the tile until they form a small puddle. You may also substitute with small pieces of paper, cardboard or foil.
2. Place the ant killer tiles on a flat surface near signs of target pests. Place additional tiles anywhere they may enter your home. The more bait placements, the better.
3. Monitor placements regularly, but do not interfere with the pests or bait while they are actively feeding on it. Add more liquid if it goes dry or add more tiles to ensure there's always a fresh supply for the ants.
How Ant Bait Works
TERRO ant bait works by attracting a large number of ants right away – but don’t worry, this is a good thing. As ants forage for food, they are easily attracted to the sweet liquid. After finding the bait, worker ants consume it and leave behind a pheromone trail leading back to the colony. This trail lets other worker ants know where the newly discovered food supply is. This is why you will see more ants at first, followed by a sharp drop off as the bait takes effect.
Meanwhile, the active ingredient, borax, is slowly interfering with each ant’s digestive system, ultimately killing them, but leaving enough time for the ants to go back and share the dose with the rest of the colony. This slow kill is necessary so that ants can make several trips to the bait, allowing you to get rid of the ants you see and the ants you don’t. Allow up to two weeks for the bait to take full effect.

User questions & answers
Question: | does this kill all species of ants |
Answer: | Presumably (but not verified scientifically) YES as it kills the Pharaoh ants which ARE established as the toughest common household ant species to kill. |
Question: | Can I dillute and spray this using a bottle sprayer (on ant trails going up some tree trunks |
Answer: | I don't know if it can be diluted and sprayed, but that is unnecessary regardless. All you need do is deposit some of the gel from the syringe in a few spots along the ant's trail, at the base of the tree and higher (it should stick to the bark). The ants will be all over it. They'll bring it back to their nest for the queen. Give it a few days, and you'll be pleased with the results! |
Question: | What is the active ingredient? What is the character of the attractant: sweet, protein, other |
Answer: | According to information on previous review the active ingredient is Fipronil. According to Wikipedia "It is a slow acting poison. When used as bait, it allows the poisoned insect time to return to the colony or harborage. In cockroaches, the feces and carcass can contain sufficient residual pesticide to kill others in the same nesting site. In ants, the sharing of the bait among colony members assists in the spreading of the poison throughout the colony. With the cascading effect, the projected kill rate is about 95% in three days for ants and cockroaches. Fipronil serves as a good bait toxin not only because of its slow action, but also because most, if not all, of the target insects do not find it offensive or repulsive." Regarding whether the attractant is "sweet" or "protein" -- I really don't know; however, the ants that we killed had been attracted to sweet thing. |
Question: | Does it kill carpenter ants |
Answer: | Yes. I have used this to kill carpenter ants. |

Easily apply in cracks, crevices, and into hard to reach places where insects hide — in kitchens, bathrooms, and basements, and around doors and windows. The wand's ergonomic design helps reduce back bending and hand fatigue with its one-touch continuous stream delivery — no pumping required. Apply anytime you see evidence of insect activity or need to put down a preventative pest barrier to keep bugs out.

Really use for when you see something that got in somehow. I use the home defense. Thats for in/out side. The big gallon one red and white bottle. One good spray around house inside OMG! You won't see any ants nothing. It's really amazing. If you hate some much as a nat or ant or spider. Honestly works on any bug wanna see a fly stop almost instantly.
