12 best cockroach gel baits
Cockroach gel baits are a type of pest control product designed to eliminate and control cockroach infestations. They are commonly used in homes, businesses, and other locations where cockroaches are a problem. Here is some information about cockroach gel baits:
Purpose: Cockroach gel baits are formulated to attract and poison cockroaches. They work by luring the roaches to the bait, which they consume, and then return to their hiding places, ultimately spreading the poison to other members of the colony. This approach is effective in targeting not only the visible cockroaches but also those hidden in nests.
Usage: Cockroach gel baits are typically applied in small dots or lines in areas where cockroaches are known to frequent. These areas include kitchen cabinets, under sinks, behind appliances, and in cracks and crevices. The gel bait is usually dispensed from a syringe-like applicator for precise placement.
Attractants: The gel bait contains attractants that mimic the scent of cockroach pheromones, making it highly appealing to the pests. This helps draw them out of their hiding places and toward the bait.
Active Ingredients: The active ingredients in cockroach gel baits vary by brand and product. Common active ingredients include boric acid, fipronil, or hydramethylnon. These substances are toxic to cockroaches but are generally considered safe for humans and pets when used as directed.
Effectiveness: Cockroach gel baits are known for their effectiveness in controlling cockroach populations, including both German and American cockroaches. However, it may take some time to see significant results, as the bait needs to be consumed and spread within the cockroach colony.
Safety: When using cockroach gel baits, it's essential to follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully. Keep them out of reach of children and pets, and avoid applying them in areas where food is prepared or stored.
Longevity: The effectiveness of cockroach gel baits can last for several weeks to a few months, depending on environmental conditions and the product's formulation. Reapplication may be necessary if the infestation persists.
Cockroach gel baits are a popular and convenient method for controlling cockroach infestations, but it's important to choose the right product and follow the instructions to achieve the best results. If you have a severe cockroach problem, it may be advisable to consult with a pest control professional for a comprehensive solution.

User questions & answers
Question: | most comments say counterfeit ..is that true |
Answer: | I put it on the ridges of the insides of the kitchen drawers (the piece that makes them slide in and out), and underneath of my refrigerator and stove. The little applicator makes it so easy, and you never have to touch anything (which is great!) I put this down after seeing one bug a couple of months ago, and I’ve not seen another one. I don’t plan on wiping the paste up anytime soon at all, but when I do clean it away, it will be after at least a solid year and then I’ll reapply more. This product works amazingly well! And the sticky bait can be put in places that are totally out-of-the-way. I’m planning to wait one more month before removing the black plastic baits and washing the insides of my kitchen drawers and all utensils (again). But I’ll still leave the black plastic baits under the kitchen sink. That will be around 90 days or so for me, before I even move any of the originally placed baits at all. This stuff really works! If you do wipe it off, and you still do not see any bugs, please come back and let us know how long you actually ended up leaving it down for. I’ve worked in apt leasing and seen terribly infested apartments treated by a professional only one time, and then maintained with Combat. It is the only product I know of that really does work! :-) |
Question: | Does this product kill waterbugs |
Answer: | Hi there, I wouldn't recommend putting the cases on counters but would recommend to put where the sink cupboard is and warm places like hot water cupboards and under fridge/freezer, or places out of reach. The paste on the combat didn't stick well when I used but I had already bought Advion Syngenta Gel Bait as it had high reviews. I had put this around the counter and door ways and under the cupboards (places where you don't usually wipe clean often) Depending how bad it is I backed it up with borax and lightly powder areas to keep the critters out. The reason why I bought all these products as follows was because I had professionals in and the roaches kept coming back. The steps and items I used are as follows:1. Bed bug and flea Spray - I used this first, empty all cupboards and wipe clean, Use a mask as the spray is highly potent and old lace up shoes and gloves, then spray inside and under fridges, this draws them out from hiding and kills the roaches on contact. After a couple of hours, sweep and mop clean all areas (try to avoid using the vacuum, unless you have an old one to chuck out)and dispose away from house. 2. Then I used the borax and lightly powdered areas ie, under fridges and ovens, hot water cupboards, and on high sills, as this dehydrates them on contact.3. Advion Syngenta Gel Bait - was a breeze to use, the gel was pasted on the counter but more on the wall where under the tiles unseen. Also under and around cupboards and the kitchen door way areas.4. Lastly planting bait traps, hot water cupboard, under the fridge/freezer, behind the oven, under the sink etc.. I disposed of these after a few months.I used all of these products before christmas 2015, and all roaches are still gone. I still have plenty of gel, borax and bed bug and flea spray but keep it just in-case. Hope this helps :) |
Question: | How do you make sure you’re not getting the fake knock off that doesn’t work? Sometimes Amazon sellers send a fake version of this |
Answer: | Combat Max Defense System Brand, Small Roach Killing Bait and Gel is geared to smaller roaches like German roaches. For larger roaches like American and Oriental, we recommend Combat Max for Large Roaches for bait stations and Combat Max Roach Killing Gel for those cracks and crevices that crawling bugs hide. |
Question: | Does this also kill large American cockroaches |
Answer: | There's no definite time in terms of hours or minutes, but there is major Death each morning you check, especially the first week. The first day I put 4 of the circles surrounding the bottom of my fridge and the next morning there was like 100 or so dead under there and 100 or so under the sink. I never thought there was this many as I see maybe 3 roaming in a day so it was shocking. There were also a lot of "dust" from all the fallen legs/wings/parts of the dead roaches. Then after 7 days I only saw 20 adult roaches dead there. The third week I saw maybe 3. Now I see 1 or none after a month so I know the nest was destroyed. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How is this compared to combat max gel |
Answer: | It is still good for 1 year after applying. If it's not eaten by then you can remove it. But it lasts a year once applied. Inside the tube it lasts 5 years if stored correctly. But no it does not disappear unless its eaten. |
Question: | does it work as well as Advion or better |
Answer: | Cockroaches are cockroaches! I don’t know the difference between Turkestan cockroaches any other but this product works! Be patient! Follow the directions and they will die! This might sound nasty but don’t clean up the dead ones. They eat each other and the poison kills the live ones. 30 days and you won’t see any. You’ll know it’s working because they won’t run away when they see you. They become disoriented and die. |
Question: | I have never used this before so do you HAVE to use a plunger to get the product our of the tubes? One review said their order did not include the advertised plunger so the product was useless until they could order a plunger. Please advise |
Answer: | Yes. When you take the cap off, they have included in a small sealed bag, mine had two of them needle like applicators, I figured cause two tubes come with it. And it has one plunger. You screw the needle like ends on simply and then squirt away. :-) A helpful tip is, when moving from one spot to another, pull back on the plunger or it'll keep letting it come out and drip cause the pressure., just pull back and it won't make a mess. :-) |
Question: | What is the difference between this and Vendetta Plus |
Answer: | At first we noticed a few dead ones, it took a few days (guessing it's from ones lingering around). Then after about a month, we had realized we hadn't seen any lives one in a while. So far this year, I live in South Louisiana so the tree roached that show up are pretty active and large, plus we have had a lot of rain and we have hardly seen any maybe 4 or 5. I am about to re-applicate just to make sure we don't start seeing an influx of them coming out. |

Answer: | Yes, this item is gold. As soon as I put the it the next they i saw dead ones and ever since i havent seen one and its been more than a year I can finally say my house roach free and its great. |
Question: | The big roaches wont eat it |
Answer: | When a single gel bait product is used exclusively for roach control, research shows that cockroach strains can demonstrate feeding aversions. BASF developed Alpine® cockroach gel bait rotation 1 reservoir and Alpine® cockroach gel bait rotation 2 reservoir to help prevent bait aversion from developing in your accounts. |

User questions & answers
Question: | how often should you change the bait |
Answer: | Small dots (half the size of a pea) work well. You can also lay out a small, thin bead 1 to 2 inches long in areas with heavier infestations. |
Question: | Is it okay to put this gel in my drawers with my clothes |
Answer: | Plungers can be removed from one tube when it is empty and used on other tubes. When you order from us you get one plunger per order. If you order 1 tube, you get one plunger. If you order 50 tubes, you get one plunger. We also sell bags of plungers separately if you need them: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01842GCPC |
Question: | Is this Bait, Insecticide, or both |
Answer: | This product works great for German roaches. For the "big roaches" I recommend spraying with Demon WP. |
Question: | How do I know if my roaches speak German |
Answer: | Good question. The abamectin takes about a week to work. In the mean time the roaches spread the bait (with abamectin and IGR around to the other roaches because they eat each other's feces and dead bodies (I know, gross...). The IGR works at a lot lower level, down to just parts per billion. If a little gets back into their hiding places it helps stop them from reproducing even if there isn't enough abamectin to kill them. I like to use this in rotation with fast acting baits like Maxforce Magnum or Advion. The fast acting bait starts killing roaches in 24 hours or less so you get a fast knock down, but can leave stragglers. I them follow up with Vendetta plus 3-7 days later to get long term results. I hope this helps. JoeEntomologist ePestHero |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can/should I put these behind the kick plate under my cabinets |
Answer: | Hello, Thank you for your question. Our tablets will absolutely work on oriental roaches. Spiders, however, are a different story. I would recommend our 24oz Spider Killer liquid spray specifically for spiders or our Spider Glue Traps. Unfortunately, they are not attracted to the tablets. Best, John |
Question: | If I have a 3 bedroom/2 bathroom kind of large home... will this be enough? or should I buy 2 packs |
Answer: | This listing says 4oz with 145 tablets, yet the description says ."at least 95 tablets",Sold by + shipped by AMAZON. There is another seller(not amazon but shipped by amazon) for a few cents more with a 6oz box with 145 tablets. Can anyone explain this enigma? |
Question: | What do we mean by "small" roaches? As is 1 in, 1/2 in or even smaller than that? The few I am seeing are no more than 1 inch in length. Will it work |
Answer: | Yes you can, they are like tablets and they don't fall apart. Roaches eat them go back to where ever and die |
Question: | Does anyone know if it can be used pet-safe? (I have a quite food-driven cat |
Answer: | I use them on my screened in porch in a tropical area and they do work but, I change them more frequently then those on the inside. THESE TABLETS WORK VERY WELL!! |

Vendetta Plus Cockroach Gel Bait combines two modes of action in one tube. In addition to an effective cockroach bait Vendetta Plus also contains the insect growth regulator (IGR) NyGuard which interrupts the life cycle of the roach and helps to prevent future infestations. The IGR stops reproductive potential of cockroaches exposed to a non-lethal dose or populations resistant to other actives resulting in death or sterility of the population. This product is effective against both non-averse and averse populations of German cockroaches. Vendetta Plus is a good choice for control in environments that are tough to control and against heavy infestations killing cockroaches where they hide. Vendetta Plus does not contain any of the Big 8 food allergens (tree nuts, fish, shellfish, cow milk, peanuts, wheat, soy, or eggs), but is highly palatable to roaches. The innovative bait matrix does not get runny in high heat and stays attractive to roaches for months after placement. See our Cockroach Bait Gel Placement Guide for tips on application. We provide 1 Plunger PER ORDER to expel the bait from the tubes. You can purchase extra plungers or you can purchase a bait gun for use with this product. User questions & answers
Question: | How long does one application last? When do you need to reapply |
Answer: | I found out from a friendly pest control guy that you should change insecticides every three months. They become immune to it.and never ever use spray..they smell it they wont go there.so u cant kill them. |
Question: | Is there a "use by" date on the tubes? I may not need to use them all |
Answer: | No I don't remembering seeing any date to use the product by. But the product works wonders. Y. W. |
Question: | I really enjoy the product but i’m still not seeing a 100 percent difference what do i do if i want better results i’ve been applying for a month |
Answer: | This product worked great for me, make sure you use Gentrol round disk with it. The Gentrol has an insect hormone that attacts the roaches and sterilizes the remaining roaches. It takes about three months to get rid of all the German roaches. |
Question: | What is the exasperation date. i bought them back in november 2019. still ok |
Answer: | My understanding is one year. If it has been opened. Three years if it has not been opened already. So if you have not opened it it should still be good. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What’s the difference between the select and magnum |
Answer: | I never had much luck with Combat product. This product seems to do quite well, and is the same stuff a paid exterminator company, I hired at one time, was using. |
Question: | I ordered this item and it did not include the precision tip applicator. How can I get one |
Answer: | A Big NO! Advion works like a charm, and this product does absolutely NOTHING! If possible I saw more roa hes within 2 weeks of applying this product. Later, ordered Advion and the roaches were all gone in 3 days. |
Question: | Will this work with all roaches or only germans |
Answer: | I received the plunger with my order but I did not use it. I purchased seperately from another company a "gun" like applicator that adjusts the size of the spot application, giving much more economical results. Also read the application instructions as it doesn't take much to do the job. An average kitchen will take less than 1 tube. Results will show up in 24 - 48 hours depending on the Roach population, it will not be instant like a can of Raid. Do not use the same bait for more than 3 months, rotate with Advion, Invicta, and MaxForce, so they can't build up an immunity. |
Question: | Can I use this on and around my stovetop safely? Is it flamable if I use it on and around my stove |
Answer: | The primary effective ingredient in standard Vendetta and Vendetta Plus are the same. The Plus version, though, includes the addition of Nygard IGR, a growth regulator that when ingested and shared among insects will help impair the development of future generations of roaches as they will not reach full maturity and will therefore not mate efficiently. This is a common technique with professionals mixing sprays, in which a strong, immediate "knockdown" pesticide may be mixed with another pesticide that has a strong "residual" effect for weeks or months, add in a "booster" (such as ExciteR or Kicker, with Piperonyl Butoxide) to enhance the efficacy of the pesticides, along with an IGR (Nygard, Precor, Gentrol, etc) to regulate insect growth & development. Baiting is still the most efficient method for Roaches and Ants, and is a cornerstone of the IPM (Integrated Pest Management) ideal currently in vogue. IPM's goal is that specific pests are "targeted" rather than a nuclear winter, shotgun approach, with attendant run-off, cross-contamination, potential human or animal exposure, and other environmental concerns that, frankly, most homeowners or tenants could care less about. Most homeowners or tenants just want the problem solved, and are often the cause of escalating failure rates due to overuse, misuse, and haphazard use of pesticides (such as not following label instructions, not preparing the area(s) properly for treatment through pre-cleaning or mitigating clutter, or not following up appropriately or in the correct time frame with the correct products). This contributes to increased insect resistance. As far as Roaches go, though, this product is among the best currently. Try to avoid placing it where pets might get at it (or use bait trays to avoid this), or small children crawling around on the floor may find it. It is advisable to also consider a routine of switching out gel baits with different formulations, such as Advion or MaxForce, etc. Also, be aware that Vendetta is primarily intended for use on German Roaches.Disclaimer: I am not currently a pest control "pro". I work in the trades at a school district and frequently consult with the pest control shop guys, as I used to manage several large multi-unit properties (40-50 units ea) and did nearly all of my own maintenance, including pest control. Besides regular contact with pros and pro suppliers, I have read about a half-dozen books on the subject, and regularly help friends & family with these issues. There are also literally hundreds of hours of video and reams of information at "do it yourself / myself" style websites (whose names mimic what I quoted, but if I write them in here, it'll get blocked, so good luck if you decide to pursue expanding your knowledge in this area). |

Question: | When do these expire? For non-professional use, this might last 5-6 years. Will it still be effective |
Answer: | No. Just in the back of the box. |
Question: | Where can i buy single |
Answer: | It does have a strainer. We purchased it to do pomegranates it’s perfect for pomegranates you just cut them in half put them in the juicer squeeze it and there’s no work to do just you don’t have to strain it with those. Once in a while when I do oranges a piece of the pulp happens to get through but not very often. Hope that helps I guess It depends on the fruit I should say but most of the ones I’ve done you don’t have to have any kind of filter or anything |

Stability testing on vertical surfaces
One gram each of four different cockroach gel baits was placed on a stainless steel plate to test stability at 73° F. Number 1 was Advion Cockroach, Number 2 was Advion Evolution, Number 3 was Maxforce FC Magnum and Number 4 was Vendetta Plus. After 4 hours and 24 hours, respectively, Advion Evolution maintained its original placement while Maxforce FC Magnum and Vendetta Plus slid down the plate.

Advion Evolution results in faster control
As part of a choice test, Advion Evolution and Maxforce FC Select were offered to a recent field-collected strain of German cockroaches, "Meriwell," that has been exposed to gel baits in the past. While the baits performed similarly, Advion Evolution was consumed at a greater rate than Maxforce FC Select, resulting in faster control.

Advion Evolution as a clean-out treatment
Advion Evolution was applied in an apartment complex containing large populations of German cockroaches. Pre-treatment monitoring resulted in approximately 150 cockroaches trapped overnight in each apartment. Even without the addition of other control methods like physical modification, Advion Evolution was found to be an effective clean-out treatment, providing more than 90 percent control using less than two 30-gram syringes of bait per apartment.

Crafting a Rotation Strategy
Cockroaches adapt quickly, which is why it's important to rotate gel baits to help manage potential aversion and resistance. Advion Evolution or Advion Cockroach, along with Optigard Cockroach Gel Bait, can be used as part of a recommended three-month rotation, which matches the average life cycle of a German cockroach.
