10 best chain for saw mills
Chain for saw mills is an essential component used in chainsaw mills, which are tools designed for turning logs into lumber or wooden boards. These chains are a critical part of the chainsaw mill setup and play a significant role in the milling process. Here's what you need to know about chain for saw mills:
Type of Chain: Chainsaw mills typically use specialized chains that are designed for ripping through wood efficiently. These chains are different from regular chainsaw chains, as they have fewer teeth and are optimized for milling rather than cutting.
Tooth Configuration: Chains for saw mills often have a skip-tooth or semi-skip-tooth configuration. This means that there is more space between the cutting teeth, allowing for efficient removal of sawdust and chips during the milling process.
Gauge: The gauge of the chain refers to the thickness of the drive links, which determines how well it fits the bar. It's crucial to use a chain with the correct gauge for your chainsaw mill's bar to ensure proper operation.
Length: The length of the chain should match the length of the bar on your chainsaw mill. Chainsaw mill bars come in various sizes, so it's important to select the appropriate chain length to ensure a snug fit.
Maintenance: Chains for saw mills require regular maintenance, including sharpening the cutting teeth and properly tensioning the chain. Proper maintenance is crucial for maintaining cutting efficiency and prolonging the life of the chain.
Material: Chains for saw mills are typically made from high-quality steel to withstand the demands of milling. They should be resistant to wear and capable of maintaining their sharpness over time.
Safety: Using the right chain and maintaining it properly is essential for safety when operating a chainsaw mill.Dull or damaged chains can increase the risk of accidents, so it's important to inspect and maintain the chain regularly.
Compatibility: Ensure that the chain you choose is compatible with your specific chainsaw mill model. Different chainsaw mills may have different requirements in terms of chain length, pitch, and gauge.
Replacement: Chains for saw mills are subject to wear and tear, and they will eventually need to be replaced. Having spare chains on hand is a good practice to minimize downtime during milling operations.
Quality: Investing in a high-quality chain for your saw mill is essential for achieving smooth and accurate cuts. Cheaper or lower-quality chains may not perform well and can result in rough or uneven lumber.
In summary, chain for saw mills is a specialized component used in chainsaw milling, designed to efficiently convert logs into lumber. Choosing the right chain, maintaining it properly, and ensuring compatibility with your chainsaw mill are all essential aspects of achieving successful milling operations.

User questions & answers
Question: | will my stihl farm boss work with this mill |
Answer: | I've used my Stihl 066 Magnum and Stihl 441C to halve BIG logs (36 and 20 inch bars respectively) to halve huge logs. You want POWER and very sharp chains. I use star drive wood screws to attach flat strap steel (I used free concrete form straps) to the plank guide, and to the trunk for alignment. Just bend the mild steel straps to get everything aligned, and go for it. Be sure not to hit dirt, you can always trim off an inch of rough stuff where it finally splits. That OR roll the log onto pallets or small trunk pieces to get it off the ground |
Question: | Any recommendations on this vs a typical alaskan or granberg mill |
Answer: | The hadden is designed to use your saw vertically along a 2x4 or 2x6, the Granberg uses your saw horizontally. This Hadden is a simple tool that is only accurate with extreme care by the user. It works mostly to flat cut a side of a log. It is not practical for cutting planks or slabs unless you have very large logs. If you use the hadden, you need to aquire a small level to attach to the top of the tool to keep your saw vertical or your cuts will wind back and forth. I also stongly suggest using the 2x6 and not the 2 x 4 which does not offer enough flat surface to stay level. |
Question: | Is it possible to split the log down the middle |
Answer: | I would (wood) say 20 inches. |
Question: | What is the difference between this mill and Granberg? http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B002VA3G3A |
Answer: | if your saw has a table with a standard slot, this will fit. |

Oregon AdvanceCut Chainsaw Chain
Homeowners need a chainsaw within arm's reach for occasional yardwork and even storm-damaged trees. You also need a saw chain advanced enough to tackle tough jobs, but user-friendly enough and forgiving for occasional use.
Oregon's AdvanceCut was created for 'DIY' homeowners because of its solid performance and reliable durability.
Low kickback design makes AdvanceCut an ideal - and dependable - choice for maintaining your property's trees. AdvanceCut is an essential tool for the discerning homeowner.
Lubritec Oiling System
You want tools to work smarter and last longer. We designed LubriTec to deliver the best possible lubrication for your saw chain. Keeping lubrication where it’s needed most means a longer lasting saw chain and guide bar and less down time.
Low Vibration
Less vibration equals more comfort. We wanted to lessen vibration-induced white finger (VWF), so we created a small space between the saw chain and the guide bar. A lot of the energy gets dissipated by the saw chain, acting as a shock absorber. It never reaches the guide bar, the saw - or most important - the operator. Our low vibration design reduces vibrations by 25% or more.
Chrome-Plated Cutters
Your chain stays sharper, longer. Oregon electroplates a layer of industrial hard chrome to all our saw chain cutters. Chrome delivers a harder surface and better wear resistance. So you spend more time cutting and less time filing or grinding the chain.
Hardened Rivets
For a longer working saw chain, Oregon induction hardens and quenches all saw chain rivets, delivering a high-quality, load-bearing surface that resists wear and improves strength. Less wear and chain stretch means fewer chain tension adjustments.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this come with the Rail connectors to assemble the two five foot peices together |
Answer: | Does not come with a larger plug. You can purchase the adapter from any electronics store I believe it's just a simple headphone to auxiliary adapter but I could be mistaken |
Question: | Is this more stable than the cheaper brands |
Answer: | It really works best for my baby. I guess any brand of car seat you have would fit because all you have to do is adjust the strap and snap it so it'll stay. Its good because it really helps a lot supporting my baby's head. I didn't used the small though coz she's 4and half months already. |
Question: | Hi Can the rails be used separately for logs which are less than 5 feet |
Answer: | The single one has one only for newnorn or it can be the one that only has one set of the newnorn and toddler head rest. |
Question: | will it work with a Granberg g |
Answer: | Hello, please check with Chicco if this is allowed with their products. Generally, the Chicco Keyfit comes with an infant insert. |

Question: | Will this bar fit a Stihl |
Answer: | I used mine only for music until your question remind me of this potential problem. I just tested it. Well, it does have lip-sync issues first for ipad, for my case, around 0.5~1 second. But I don't see such problem when using it with my laptop. Then I switched back to ipad, the issue is gone. Guess it was the network problem first?? Wired... but now I don't see the issues anymore. |

Question: | I want to put a 24 inch bar on my 455 rancher, what type of bar and chain do I want |
