HOW TO SAVE ON THE COST OF YOUR FIRE GLASS

Lava Rock is inexpensive when compared to fire glass. You could use a one inch deep lava rock layer to initially cover your burner pan. This will reduce the glass depth needed by one inch. This can be applied to any fire pit or fireplace, no matter what size and make a considerable saving over the cost of using fire glass throughout.

Using lava rock as a base material does have a single draw back. It will cause some soot build up on your fire glass. So periodically you may need to remove your fire glass and rinse off the soot. Be sure to allow the glass to completely dry before placing it back over the lava rock.

Answer:	Hi. I had the same issue (clear glass is what came with mine). 3 or 4 options as I see it. The issue is that you are covering that boxy "vent" that sticks up in the fire bowl so uncover that area, problem solved. Option #2 Get "reflective" fire stones to mix in to transfix your friends and provide more alcohol. Add psilocybin as needed. #3 Get black reflective rocks. That could look really neat when you mix them with the crystal (diamonds!) reflective (5 lbs of each should be plenty. 3.5:1.5 seems like a neat sounding mix. Throw in .5lbs reflective red . Cool! #4 ALL of the above.

Answer:	I use this in an indoor fireplace that was converted twice over last 40 years - 1st from vented regular wood burning to propane gas, 2nd by me from LP to natural gas. I cleaned it out, scrubbed off 40 years of soot, shop vacuumed it clean, re-spray painted interior metal walls with Hi-Temp semi-gloss black made for fireplaces, outdoor grills, etc.. Then replaced fake logs & log grate with 70 lbs of high reflective 1/2 - 1" Amber color glass. Glass came in very thick 10lb plastic bag & each bag in its own box. The glass was dusty/dirty from manufacturing process & settling from storage & shipping. I rinsed each bag in a big colander in sink, let drain, then lined empty shipping box with thick paper leftover from underlay from oak floor installation, & let sit in sun on outdoor deck to drain/dry for approximately 24 hours. Then placed in & around single straight iron bar burner - 10lbs/1 box at a time, while burner was lit turned on about 1/2, allowing further flame drying. This product is sold by many vendors some explain various grades, styles & PURPOSES/proper use better than others. Some general guidelines. The main product is the high temp fireglass, basic less$$$ product is used under the more $$$ highly reflective H.T. fireglass. The larger machined shaped/polished "diamond" style for example r larger & NOT designed to be the main substrate like the hi-temp fireglass is. This most $$$ glass is supposed to be hand placed decorativley & some venders warn against placing these larger decorative glass pieces directly over burner flame - especially with high BTU burners. Instead place on top & pushed down into base fireglass off to side, middle or under burner direct flame. They will catch light just the same with no chance of cracking from too much heat or air pockets in larger pieces or worst case high BTU with damp/wet glass causing explosions & hot glass flying around. This product line SHOULD NOT BE HEATED/used WET! I got a couple of pops (just water pop offs no flying hot glass shards) when I carefully, knowingly completed my fireglass wash/dry cycle with 24 hour outdoor air/sun dry BEFORE heating glass low & slow to get last of water out. The courser base glass does hold quite a bit of water. I would recommend a water-tight cover for outdoor FP.s that are open to unprotected sky.. Could be dangerous. Also I dont understand how to use this product with an electric heating element FP other than placing glass on fp base floor all around the element BUT NOT MAKING CONTACT. I think the electric heater element can/will damage, crack & potentially perm discolor any pieces that come in contact. Clearly states this product can be used as decorative or with LP or NG (assumed properly adjusted/maintained clean burning/minimum, if any, yellow flame residual soot.) The glass catches &reflects dancing flames - looks like glass is actually melting & flowing like a lake of molten glass... Very cool.. or hot? lol... Chris

HOW TO SAVE ON THE COST OF YOUR FIRE GLASS

Lava Rock is inexpensive when compared to fire glass. You could use a one inch deep lava rock layer to initially cover your burner pan. This will reduce the glass depth needed by one inch. This can be applied to any fire pit or fireplace, no matter what size and make a considerable saving over the cost of using fire glass throughout.

Using lava rock as a base material does have a single draw back. It will cause some soot build up on your fire glass. So periodically you may need to remove your fire glass and rinse off the soot. Be sure to allow the glass to completely dry before placing it back over the lava rock.

Question:	Do these have to be rinsed to get powder off prior to placing in fire pit so they look better
Answer:	No it will not fit the dx42ai. These doors will fit only models E42 and EC42 only
Question:	Do I need to use a layer of lava rock, or can I just use it as a replacement
Answer:	The doors fit perfectly on our E42. The E and the El share the same dimensions, as best I can tell. You must have the factory door tracks for these to install correctly.
Question:	dia pit 10" deep, how much 1/2" rock will i need? if i have too much can i return? thanks
Answer:	We got a different color (the blue/copper) and there are a good bit of reflective pieces with a mirror back. The product image for the white looks similar.
Question:	Is this translucent or opaque

To calculate how much glass you need:

For rectangular or trapezoidal fireplace/fire pit:

1) Measure the width across the center of the firebox (in inches).

2) Multiply the result times the depth (inches) from the front to the back.

3) Divide the result by 20.5

4) Multiply the result by the number of inches high you would like the glass (which should be at least enough to cover the top of your burner.)

5) The result is the number of pounds needed (approximately).
