How to determine if it’s a right water pump for your aquarium tank?

The First Step: you need to decide the suggested flow multiples of your tank.Mainly we divide tanks to three types: FOT, LPS an SPS.Suggested Flow Rate Multiples:

• FOT(Fish Only Tank): 8~10 times of the tank's water volume.
• LPS(Large Polyp Stony Corals):2~3 times of the tank's water volume.
• SPS (Small Polyp Stony Corals):3~5 times of the tank's water volume.

The Second Step：know the actual required flow for your tank which is different for different types of tanks and calculate the applicable pump flow rate.

Here's the formula for you to calculate:

Answer:	That is max flow at that speed. Many factors can reduce flow. Size and length of pipes, restrictive fittings (inside pipe versus outside pipe) and above all would be head pressure. We use ours to circulate hot water through a 770 ft recirculating system(insulated on low speed). We obtain a maximum temp drop in cold weather(below freezing) of only 4 degrees. We have used these for years! They are quiet and work great. just be sure that pump can not run dry!

Answer:	It depends how big of a water fall you’re looking for. The tube isn’t very big. It will definitely pump it up there (tube is about 2 feet), but not a significant “Waterfall” amount of water comes out. Unless you’re filling an area with water that will then fall, I’d go bigger. I use this filter to move about 2 gallons of water, and it’s no rapids.

Answer:	Thanks for your question. Submersible pond pumps don't use HP measurements very often anymore as it doesn't give clear indication of a flow rate or pumping height. Aquascape doesn't provide this spec for the Tsurumi 12PN, however I have seen a few companies advertise that it's 1 HP. Answer:	If you are saying that you plan to squeeze this down and run it thru 2" pipe, it makes no sense to buy this pump. The most water you will squeeze thru 2" pipe is about 6000 gph so you will not benefit from buying a 10,000 gph pump.
