Question:	Does the rain gauge need to be brought in during the winter to keep it from freezing and breaking? Has anyone run into this problem
Answer:	i have found that this product never lasts more then a year, no matter what you do.... i love the product, will probably buy it again, but after having had numerous (4 maybe?) they all break in 1-2 seasons..... and here in the pacific northwest, sometimes it's snow, sometimes it's rain... if you can't leave it outside in the weather why have a weather system? but even so.... it has not always frozen, we've had winters where it hasn't snowed at all and it still broke....
Question:	Can this be left out in freezing weather and snow
Answer:	Hi Margaret: although we usually get 7-10 days of below-freezing nights here in my location, we get no snow. Sorry I can't be of more help. Unless you want to measure the snow as it melts, the unit is easy to move. I keep my lashed to a cinder block, but even so, I can move it if need be. Perhaps a little wooden square could be made for it, like a tissue box holder, but with an opening on top the same size as the rain collector? Then the unit would be safe while still being able to collect snow accumulation. Good luck!
Question:	Is the indoor module as cumbersome and anti-intuitive to work as the older model? God forbid I ever lose the manual
Answer:	i sit the manual under the module. that way i can't misplace it.. its a small manual. but i would think you should keep it close by if you purchase this item. I've had ours since christmas and we use the manual to reset the total rain gauge.

Answer:	I'm not sure what the prg126 is, but the PCR800 only works with Professional Weather Stations. The temperature sensor will work with other O.S. wireless units, but the rainsensor isn't compatable.

Answer:	No it will not. It will only work with the new RGR126N. I recently bought one to use with the old RGR126 I had and it did not work. I wound up returning it and buying a new RGR126N system.

Answer:	Sorry, I don't believe it is compatible. Here is the info I found on PCR800 compatibility: Compatible with all WMR systems except WMR300 Compatible with RGR126N and RGR126.

Answer:	There is a small hole on all three marked "reset," It takes a stiff wire to push in to reset. The gauge and temperature sensor should be reset before resetting the monitor. All should be reset after changing the batteries in all three.

Answer:	It doesn't come with a plastic base. Comes with 2 wood screws. You have to provide the pole, wood or otherwise. As a side note: the quality of this item is very very poor. Thermometer is poorly glued to the item. Mine arrived loose in the container. No directions and rain gauge tub didn't stay in the support bracket. Worst quality of any item I have received via Amazon. Obviously, this item doesn't come with my purchase recommendation.

Answer:	The flag is a heavy duty polyester and nylon mixture, and the strap is a heavy duty nylon that you can loop around the existing handle on the stern of your kayak. I don't even remove the flag while on the water. It seems to be holding up well.

Question:	Does the rain cup come with a mounting bracket
Answer:	Yes, the bottom of the rain cup detaches, allowing you to screw the bottom to a deck railing or other level surface. You also install the batteries in the bottom section while the top is detached.
Question:	Are batteries included
Answer:	no batteries, takes 3 AAA's in base. I like the system, but when the batteries for a remote die, you have to restart the base station (pull a battery) for it to start receiving data from the remote. All the saved rain data is lost. That is the only problem I have had with the unit that I have. Also be sure that the rain detector is level in all directions, more accurate that way.

Answer:	I simply stick mine in the ground. But if you have appropriate tools (drill and bit and get the right screws) it could be successfully mounted on a metal fence or railing. It would be secure. You would have to decide if it was easy or too complicated to do.

Question:	If you mount it on a fence, how do you empty it
Answer:	Two screws in the fence mount the gauge. There are slotted holes on the gauge that allow you to simply slip it off the mounting screws to empty the water. Then slip back in place. Easy to use and to mount.
Question:	Will it break when water freezes inside the gauge
Answer:	It does now! I have been ordering this gauge since 2006. It was made in America then. The acrylic was so heavy when made in America it would not break, the expanding ice simply moved up in the column. As soon as the made in China move came the gauge wall thickness was literally cut in half. I know because I very carefully measured it. Would love to find a thick one once again.

Question:	Is the mounting hardware that holds the gauge plastic? or something longer lasting
Answer:	I believe it's at least that. The inner cylinder is 1" than flows into the large outer cylinder which has to be decanted inch by inch into the inner cylinder as my outer cylinder was never marked. I only ever recall a maximum of a 6.00" rain here on the farm.
Question:	Is it made in the USA
Answer:	I attached this to a metal stake used to hold chicken wire. At the top of the stake, I bolted on a 2x4, then mounted the bracket that comes with the gage to the 2 x 4. Just make sure that you have the top of the rain gage high enough above the top of your post that you don't get water bouncing off the top of the post into the gage. A few inches should do it - mine is about 6" above the top of the 2x4.
Question:	What is outside diameter
Answer:	No there is not a measurement on the outside tube. You must decant in order to get an accurate measurement. I just performed the calibration test myself and each 1 inch of water collected on the inside tube is not equal to .10 inches collected in the outer tube as some state in these answers. The closet that you can get to measuring without decanting is by using the formula in user okrah’s answer which is: Where the outer tubes water level meets the inner tubes markings, take that decimal number and multiply it by 8.8 then add 1 (this 1 is the amount of water already filling the inner tube) and that will give you a very close measurement. Albeit not as accurate as decanting.
Question:	Will this fit on cyclone fence
Answer:	Take out the inner tube and take off the funnel. Then you will capture the snow in the big outer tube. There are two ways to measure the snow but what I like to do, after the snow has stopped, is to bring the tube with the captured snow in it, let it melt, than pour the water into the inner tube using the funnel. If the liquid measurement comes up to .10" it has snowed about 1". Rule of thumb-1 inch of liquid precipitation equals 10 inches of snow. This will vary tho when you have a heavy, wet snow or a light, dry snow. Hope this has helped.

Question:	How does it attach? I have a vinyl fence will it work on that
Answer:	Locate it where it will collect only the rain which falls directly on it. If the vinyl is thick just screw it on the same way you would connect it to a wooden fence. If the vinyl is relatively thin and hollow, use an expanding insert or bolt (like you would use in drywall). Most hardware stores can help you find the exact connector you need if you do not already have them. If you have a 'picket' fence, you may need to attach a mounting board to the fence first.
Question:	What happens in freezing weather
Answer:	Freezing weather will make the plastic crack and leak. So, as I found out, not suitable for use in North Carolina. I am looking for some replacement rain gauge that will work during the winter - most nights here do not freeze and most of our winter precipitation is rain, not snow.
Question:	It looks like rain from the deck railing would splash into the gauge, causing high readings. Anyone checked the accuracy of this gauge
Answer:	Splashing is definitely a concern with this rain gauge, especially in heavy rain events. Consider the Stratus gauge. It's more expensive, but it is very accurate (used by the NWS and one of the largest rain networks in the country, CoCoRaHS www.cocorahs.org). You can find it online for about $27 + shipping.
Question:	Why does scaling on gauge have 1 1/2" to collect 1" of rain
Answer:	The opening dimensions at the top of the gauge are larger than the dimensions at the bottom, 1.5 times more so, in fact. The top is collecting rain in an 8.1 square inch area, but collecting in the bottom in a 5.4 square inch area (8.1/5.4 = 1.5.) So the gauge scaling is graduated to allow for the difference. Notice also that the scale between the inch lines decreases as the level rises. Make sense?

The O.D. for the top (at the open mouth of the gauge) is 1 13/16 inches. The O.D. for the remainder of the gauge is 1 1/4 inches. Both measurements are to the nearest 1/16". I hope that helps.

Answer:	I do not know what a cyclone fence is, and it does not come up on a search engine. However the little bracket that comes with it has two hole to screw it to something, or you could just use two tie wraps and fasten it almost anywhere. Pole, post, or screw it to a fence out in a clearing at the top with the screws.
