Too long and they will mold and make the little guys sick. If it molds inside the glass, take a bottle brush and scrub off using bleach and water. Same with the rest of the feeder. Bleach will kill the mold. |

I have been using this flow indicator for a few years and my established procedure is to replace it with a new one at the beginning of each season as the plastic turns whitish yellow and renders it almost useless. I also change the flow regulator and one-way valve at either end as I found that they also degrade. It is an extremely useful device to control the chlorine level from the tablets feeder but it is not perfect. I guess that chlorine is a very harsh chemical and there is a limit to how long plastic can survive it. It is a very reasonable price to pay per season for having this monitoring and control capabilities ..... |

| Answer: | Thanks for the tip. I'll start saving vinegar bottles. Glass is better of course. Looks like a decent feeder. The ones I have now start dripping when the sun hits the nectar bottle; the air expands and forces the nectar out. The feeder level ends up being to be too high relative to the feeder holes. |
