Question:	I have heard that a second hole is a good idea, allowing blue birds to be able to escape if threatened by sparrows, etc.Has anyone tried to add a hole
Answer:	European house sparrows are a danger to many domestic birds and especially bluebirds. Experts encourage their eradication. Domestic sparrows (russet, song, white throated, etc.) are not a problem. The two-entry nesting boxes use a special design that allows the bluebird to escape via the second doorway to take the fight outside, where they are competitive with the house sparrow in a battle. Otherwise the house sparrow will destroy the eggs and/or kill the parents in the enclosed area. House sparrows are the scourge of the "bird community." I wouldn't try to adapt an one-entry box into a two-entry box. You can do an online search for "2-hole mansion" for plans. Nesting boxes are pretty easy and inexpensive to build, often from a single board, cedar or pine, and it's a fun project.
Question:	Is this birdhouse already put together
Answer:	Yes, this nice sturdy birdhouse is ready to hang. I have mine on a tree, but it is intended to put on a post. Very solid, good quality.
Question:	Can you put this on a pergola post? or is that a bad idea
Answer:	It would definitely be a bad idea. If you want to attract bluebirds then the house should not be attached to a tree or anything else that a raccoon can climb. We have ours attached to t-posts or 3/4" conduit. The instructions for the bluebird houses recommend them being placed in the open and about 50 feet from the nearest perch.
Question:	Do you supply houses for Western bluebirds? Think their holes are a little bigger
Answer:	This box and many others that you will see with a 1 1/2" entrance will work fine for western bluebirds. Some suppliers label some boxes as "western" with a 1 9/16" hole and "eastern" with a 1 1/2" hole, but the larger size is actually intended to accommodate mountain bluebirds, which are present in some parts of the west. So, in short, 1 9/16" is sold as the safe size to attract any bluebird in western north America, while 1 1/2" is a fine size for the specific species "western bluebird."

Question:	Can I put wood sealer on this
Answer:	I would think you can. We have done that in the past on some of birdhouses to help preserve the wood. Have not done so on this new one yet, this will be first season, so might do it next year. Don't really know how seasoned this wood is, but is a really nice unit. If you put on seasoning, do it now, let it sit, air out, so no odor. We went ahead and mounted ours and another wren house, since they seem to be coming around this fall and winter. Hoping something will take up a birdhouse for wintering this year. Then will clean it and be ready for nesting.
Question:	What is the height and width of the interior? I want to use this to house a security camera
Answer:	The measurements listed on the product are 6 in by 5.75 and 11.75 high. It is nice size, but would take off 1/2 inch or more front and side for the sides. And although height listed as 11.75 in, that may be the back, and front with the slope would be less. I haven't been in yard with all the rain and wind to measure exactly. A small camera would fit and you can mount it up to the front bird opening ok, and there isn't much more height needed about the hole for the camera. This box is slightly bigger than some others I've had, but there are also some others listed on Amazon with another inch or two in width and depth. Good Luck.

Answer:	You can paint it, but it is recommended that bluebird houses should be painted a natural neutral color.

Answer:	1-3/8" and I double checked it too. It is listed in the description but most do not give all the information. It is in the pictures on the left side of the screen.

Answer:	We bought these for outside, but have not gotten them painted yet. We are putting extra protection on them (varnish) before we put them out. I am hoping they will last.

Answer:	Both! The house is ready for eastern bluebirds. There is an attachment to replace the entry that has the larger diameter for western bluebirds.
Question:	I've noticed reviews saying wrens have moved in. What size is the entry hole
Answer:	It’s tiny. An inch and a half. Wrens are a little smaller than a bluebird. They do like the same size boxes. I have 3 boxes of different types for blue birds. This is the one that bluebirds have actually nested in. The other two have had wren families in them the last two years. I let nature take its course and let the birds choose.
Question:	How do you open the Clean out door? It won’t open because the plexiglass is up too high but it won’t come down
Answer:	It sounds like there might be an issue or damage with your house as you should just be able to turn the silver toggle at the bottom of the clean out door and open it. My suggestion is a return to Amazon or the vendor for an exchange, credit or refund per their policy.
Question:	How is the viewing window removed so you can install house on post through the floor or clean out the house
Answer:	It slides out the bottom. There is a small 90-degree bent metal arm that swivels to hold the window in place, similar to the arm that keeps the door in place.

Mounting your bird house

Bluebird houses can be mounted on a metal pipe/pole using pipe clamps (our preferred method), which you should be able to find at your local hardware, plumbing, or fencing store. The pipe clamps should be attached above and below the nesting chamber of the house.

The bluebird house can be mounted directly to a 4x4 post, wooden fence post, or tree by screwing through the back board above and below the nest chamber of the bluebird house with screws at least 1/2" longer than the depth of the board, or by screwing through the bottom of the house into the top of a 4x4 post. Be aware that these mounting methods do allow predators easy access to disturb the nest box.

In any mounting method, the bottom of the house should be 4-6 feet above the ground with the entrance facing south/southeast in a clearing with tall grasses or shrubbery 8-12 feet away.

Air vents allow for optimum air ventilation through wall and floor openings. Proper ventilation is imperative for bird health.

Fledgling Skerfs

Grooves on the inside of the house just below the entry hole enable the young to climb up to feed and peer out at the world around them.

Answer:	I agree the roof is too dark. I live in Western NY and no birds have moved in. I am going to paint the roof a lighter color. I do love the house though.
Question:	has anyone had good luck hanging this from a pergola? How do you attach it
Answer:	Sorry no. I've hung mine on a tree branch snugging the bottom in a fork of lower branches so it doesn't swing. Love this wren house. Bought last year thinking it was too late in the season for nesting. Mom and pop moved in the same afternoon! Noisy little buggers, but fun. Love it.
Question:	Do the wrens prefer for it to hang freely, or to be secure against a building? Have you noticed any preference as far as sun exposure or height? Thx
Answer:	A: I bought this and within 24 hours I had a wren building a nest in it. I hung it on a shepherds hook about 5ft from my Bradford pear tree. I hung it about 5ft. off the ground. Would definitely buy again.

Hanging Your Wren House

Wrens and chickadees both prefer houses that are located in a sheltered area - under the shade and protection of tree branches is ideal. When possible, hang the house so that the entry hole faces away from incoming weather anywhere from 5-10 feet off the ground. A hanging style house is preferred so that it can be placed outward on a branch to help prevent predators reaching the nest. A male wren will build a nest out of sticks and perch on the branches above the house to attract a female. A pair of chickadees will work together to build their nest with moss, pet hair, or other types of fur-like material.

Clean-Out Doors
