Answer: Really depends on your temperature and amount of wood you put in the unit, this unit uses considerably less wood than any other unit I've seen so it will produce the least amount of smoke as far as smokers go. I kept my temperature low around 125-135 for salmon and barely got any smoke. When I had it cranked up to 220 with two chunks of wood (unnecessary) there was a LOT of smoke.

Answer: Gfi plugs are very susceptible to malfunctioning. Especially when using things that pull a lot of watts. Outside receptacles usually don't have gfi's anyway.
Question: what is the highest temperature it will reach
Answer: I just bought mine and seasoned it on the high setting. After it reached 300 the plan was to let it run for an hour @ that temp. but after about a half hour it had climbed to 400. It probably would've went higher but I backed it down to med. setting and it held at 300 for the remainder of the time.

Definitely not recommended to light it from the bottom - as it will burn very very fast and ruin everything. Answer: I register 220 on the outside of the smoker with my heat gun at the very lowest point closest to the element. Cooking grates are 210 and 200 as I move closer to the top. Mine runs hotter than the original element by 20 degrees at the bottom. Little bit of variation with ambient temperature but not much.

Answer: Not advisable. The smoke generator clogs up fairly often (15-30 minutes of run time). Unless you have something 2' long to clean the hose out with you will have nothing but trouble as the smoke generator puts out a lot of creosote and your hose will clog quickly. Best advise, as I said, don't do it.

Question: Can you change the chips out without opening the door and losing all your heat and smoke
Answer: There is a small door for the chip pan to go in and out of. Since the chip-pan-door is at the bottom of the unit, you lose very little heat/smoke even if you were to leave it open while loading chips. The chip-pan-door will not stay open unless you hold it open.
Question: How often do I need to change the wood chips? It seems like mine quit smoking after about 20 minutes
Answer: The chops will smoke heavily for about 30 minutes but leave them in until all you gave is ash product. Fill completely again.
Question: Does the top come off at all? I use this for smoking cheese, and need to adjust the lid so it dont get to hot in the smoker
Answer: It's the wrong kind of smoker for smoking cheese. You are looking for a cold smoker. This is a hot smoker that is made to cook and smoke meat at the same time and will have a temp. of 160 to 180 degrees F. Cold smokers have a temperature of 70 to 80 degrees F. They are used for things like cheese, nuts, bacon, ham. Meats for a cold smoker have to be cured first. Often the fire box will be completely separate from the cold smoker to give the smoke time to cool down and cold smoking is done during cooler times of the year to keep the temperature down.
Question: What are operating cost? say for 24 hrs
Answer: Well it's a 250 watt element. So for 24 hours that's 6 kilowatt hours(kWh). So look on your electric bill for your kWh pricing. Multiply your kWh price by 6 and you've got the answer. For instance if your electric costs $0.12/kWh then it would be $0.72 to run the unit for 24 hours. Hope this helps!

Answer: Yes in terms of attaching to a standard rail, but at the range one would usually use an AR likely not quite powerful enough. I use mine on a mossberg shockwave and at that kind of range it is ideal.
