Answer:	As the description mentions, it is a tapered design. It is wider in the front and narrower in the back to fit most fireplaces that are also shaped like that. It is not obvious from the front-on view as one can't easily tell how much or if, at all, it is smaller in the back or not - one might think one is just seeing some perspective effects. For instance, my 18" wide grate has the tines at 17.5" width in front and only 13.5" width at the back. I do think it would still look fairly nice even with the double sided fireplace, but certainly understand why you might want one that was rectangular for your application.
