Answer: Measuring diagonally on just the grill part it's 11" and yes a 12" pan would work I have a 13" pot that I use to cook crab outside and it works perfect

Answer: I have used it indoors twice and it works fine... no problems at all. Make sure to be as safe indoors as you are outdoors.
Question: Will this accept the weight a 20Qt stainless steel pot of water. Any thoughts on using it for a canning bath
Answer: I would not use anything big enough to cover the butane cover section as if that butane canister being thinner metal gets to hot it becomes a ticking time bomb. If I remember right I'm thinking they don't recommend anything over 10-11" in diameter in pots to keep from reflecting heat back down over butane cover. If using the 1 lb propane bottles probably not an issue. You could also wrap the rubber hose with some reflective aluminum foil that goes into stove.

Answer: When I got mine the first thing I tried was boiling a small amount of water in a small pot on a hot day. 15 minutes and no boil and I see the cap was all melted so it will never cook good again. I got the 15000 BTU model of this and months later it still works like a charm!
