Question: Can you use it on a wooden deck safely
Answer: Please DO NOT use on wooden deck. The heat from my smoker was too hot and caught my whole house on fire. The fire inspector said always use on high heat material like concrete, and no wood or grass.

Answer: Not difficult. The racks, drip pan and chip box come out and can be cleaned in your sink or dishwasher. The inside of the smoker is gradually "cured" by the smoke and will take on a dark coating. You can clean this like you would an oven, but you really don't need to. I do recommend that you clean the smoke coating from the glass window each time so you can see the meat cooking. This can be cleaned with soap and water, or with a non abrasive cleaner. Be sure to get all of the cleaner off the smoker so you don't have any issues with the cleaner adding unwanted flavors to the next cooking.
Question: How well does it do in colder temps, like Virginia in the winter
Answer: Virginia? I smoked in a N.Y. winter. It did ok, took a bit longer, may just have to add a bit more water to compensate for the time.

Answer: I purchased one it worked very well but I suggest before you buy it try to manually have your icemaker recycle. There is a pinhole on the left side take a paperclip and press it in your feel the little button. when you press that it should start the recycle process and the arms will turn around, if it does the icemaker is actually working it could be a clogged water filler on the right-hand side hope this helps good luck. By no means by this from LG they want almost $300 Amazon about 100. That serial number should be on there somewhere the only connections the icemaker will have is the connection plug on the left and the grounding wire on the bottom which is a little difficult to get to.

Answer: Max temp it can be set for is 275 degrees,will hold temp within a few degrees.

Answer: Yes. Water pan is large enough to smoke a long time.
Question: How many years of use is realistic to expect from this smoker before it breaks
Answer: I've had the version of this smoker (one generation earlier) for 7 or 8 years. I've kept it outside on the deck the entire time with a Masterbuilt smoker cover. I use it at least a dozen times a year and put only a modest amount of effort into care. The most important care factor is making sure it dries out after use. I wipe the gaskets but for the most part leave the interior as is (except when I cook something really messy). AFTER I finish I run it at max heat (275F) for about 30 minutes with the vent open to cook off water and bake in residual fat (seasoning). It's that baked in fat that really protects your appliance more so that any amount of elbow grease! (you see what I did there :) Results: Mostly due to failure of the smoker cover (which I have since replaced) water was able to get in. Even before that some rusting of the wood chip pan was occurring. I had a common problem with the grounding of the heating element causing electrical failures (popping my GFI) which I replaced with a significant amount of effort and several scraped knuckles. I've read that this is much easier in later models. So I'd say 10 years is reasonable given modest proper care (most important of which being to cook the inside dry after use!). And that's 10 years of freakin awesome smoked meats with almost no effort maintaining the correct heat. Turn it on, go to work, come home to BBQ.
Question: How often do you add wood chips? And do you soak them
Answer: i have time to use the unit twice, once with chips, soaked about 30 minutes, and once without. When I used chips, I added new ones about every 30-40 minutes.

Answer: No, it doesn’t. You wouldn’t want it to do that.
Question: Can you make jerky with this smoker
Answer: I'm not sure. I have never made jerky but imagine it involves low/medium heat. If that's all it takes then this will do it. If it involves smoke then go to another smoker. If it requires higher heat, say 300 deg. or more, then skip this one. My smoker "smokes" only up to 250 deg and gives almost no smoke. Wish I had bought a well known brand that had a valued name. For most things involving barbeque skip this one.

Answer: No. The smoke and other invisible fumes (carbon monoxide) are not safe to breathe. This needs to be used outdoors. If the seal around the door was improved, you could maybe justify using it in a garage with some duct work attached to the vent in the back and routed safely outside. Do not use this in an area intended for continuous occupancy. Do not use it near anything flammable or combustible.

Question: What is the lowest temperature setting on this unit? I do cheeses and things at 100 deg F
Answer: I originally bought for a 32 inch and it fit perfectly. I recently bought a 43 inch and it barely fits. It only fits because the legs of the tv are straight and a few inches in instead of the ends of the tv.

Answer: I’m 99% sure that it would, but be sure to measure the width and not the diagonal length of the tv to know for sure

Answer: There is a switch in the power line, you can set the temperature. When the temperature reaches the set temperature will stop heating; when below the set temperature, will start heating.
Question: Can wood pellets be used in this
Answer: Wood chips only for flavor not for cooking
Question: I need to buy a new heating element for the se2801. mine will only go up to 156 degrees f. does anyone have a parts list
Answer: While I don’t know the answer to your question, the unit is not insulated well and if you have it outside and live in cold climate, the unit will not get hot enough to cook your meat. I used styrofoam from packaging to contain the heat in, the results were great.

Answer: 10-12 minutes per pound but there is no preheating time required. Having done deep fried and using the Big Easy, Total time is about the same.
Question: How does this compare to charcoal grills? We love steak, chicken and chops... will we be disappointed
Answer: This will be a great grill for you,.. I suggest you review the manual on how it sets up. If you are cooking for more than 4 I suggest buying another insert for the grill rack, again, do some online research. The meat will remain moist! I bought mine to use as a smoker but not as impressed with that function as I cannot get the temp to stay down to 210-225.
Question: what size propane tank do you use
Answer: Hi, I don't know the size of the propane tank but it is the standard size that you get from Blue Rhino, you give an empty and get a full one for approx. $20.00. Also, do yourself a favor and never use a bristle grill brush. I took a bristle out of my mouth while eating a hamburger, then I closely inspected the grill and saw many trapped on the lower grate supports. Charbroil makes a red nylon one they recommend. Google grill brush bristle injuries, you won't believe it. I had no idea. I am trying to tell everyone I can.
Question: Someone above wrote the temp goes from 325-450, is that true you cannot bring it down to 205 for slow smoking
Answer: Use the water pan as mentioned in other replies, but more importantly, use at least one good probe thermometer. The lowest I've had mine down to for smoking was 215, and it took a lot of work to get there. I added a true fire brick to the bottom of the basket as a heat sink as well as the water pan, and cracked to lid about an inch. ( shouldn't have to do that according to the owners forum). Also, this was in Feb. in PacNW, on a covered and sheltered deck. So , that all helped. As for grilling and roasting, remember that the owners manual tells you to run with the lid open. Again, a quality probe thermometer comes in handy here. Bottom line, don't be afraid to experiment. The 3 in 1 big easy is a great choice for most casual and occasional users.

Question: Can I use wood or is this charcoal only
Answer: I burn Sugar Maple in mine, the only problem is that is DOES NOT burn long with wood or charcoal before the ash which is very small fills up and blokes air flow to fire. I built a removable ash pan for mine that hold ash from an eight hour burn/cook (pork sholder). I've have fire hot enough to pegged out the thermometer without effecting the paint.
Question: How easy is this to clean? Is there an easy way to remove charcoal dust
Answer: I line mine with aluminum foil and pick up the foil. Sometimes, when it gets bad, I lay it on its side and spray it down with a hose. Either way charcoal removes pretty quickly.
Question: can you tell what the cooking area is
Answer: The grills are 11" x 23" in the main cooking area and 11" x 10" in the firebox.
Question: can you use it as a grill also
Answer: Absolutely, you can use it as a grill. It works great as a grill! We do more grilling than smoking. Furthermore, it works well as a grill with very few coals.
