Answer: | I disagree with the other answers that feel a 30 Amp controller will work. That answer is only valid if using a series connection, and your controller can handle the higher voltage. (4*20VDC=80Volts). (The PWM controllers can’t deal with this voltage. You must go with a MPPT controller if you want to series connect 4 panels.) ON THE OTHER HAND... If using a parallel connection, those people are only considering the current that gets delivered TO THE CONTROLLER. However, All MPPT controllers will lower the voltage to match your battery while simultaneously increasing the current. So the current can rise from the typical 5.5 Amps per panel up to approximately 9.0 Amps per panel when the battery is low. That would make the current coming FROM the controller TO your batteries about 36 Amps!!! Your 30 Amp controller wouldn’t last very long. So the summary is: Definitely play it safe and go for a 40A MPPT charge controller with a parallel connection. Or use the lower 20/30 Amp MPPT designs with a series connection ONLY! By the way: The PWM controllers will throw away all the voltage above your battery voltage (unlike the MPPT controllers) . This can waste as much as 40% of your solar panels output when your battery is low !!!! (E.g. solar panel puts out 18.5 volts and your 3S lithium battery is at 10.0 Volts. Say goodbye to about 7 to 8 Volts!!! I would stay away from the PWM controllers if you can afford the better MPPT designs. |

Answer: | The generator start is an optional item. I don’t recall the additional cost but it is fairly minimal. I use a portable Honda EU7000is generator, so that option would not work in my application. But if your genset is built-into your RV, the auto start would be a nice addition. The Magnum Hybrid Inverter system is really superb. I’ve had mine for over a year now, and it works flawlessly. |

MSH4028Re for your house, which use utility power to charge your batteries when the batteries are low. MSH4024re cost more because it has a automatic breaker system to switch you back to utility power when your needs more than the utility charge to your batteries. I bought MSH4024M to use in my house. it works ok. |
