Question:	would it work well for powdered lime
Answer:	Just bought a Classic Drop Spreader for use with pulverized (powdered) lime. Worked great with a 40 lb. bag and a setting of 14. Took a few passes to use up the bag at the recommended application rate found on the bag of lime. Cross (perpendicular) application was recommended by the lime supplier. Tried to apply a bag of lime with a rotary spreader (Scotts 2000) and wound up with clogging due to the insufficient hole size even at a setting of 11. Recommend you use granular lime with the rotary spreader. Seems to work well for me with the Scotts 2000.

Answer:	The spreader is made in California.
Question:	How is the spread when used for salt in the winter? Does it have a good spread or does it just trickle to the floor with very little spread
Answer:	I bought this 5 years ago and only use for salt in the winter, the metal frame finally gave out in the beginning of the 6th winter. Spreads salt fine as long as the wheels turn. Not great for built up ice pack on driveway. Works great for normal use at home.

Question:	Wheels in one pic are bolted together with 4 bolts and nuts, but the pic of the "whole" do not show the bolts. are they 2 or 1 piece wheels
Answer:	If I remember correctly they are 1 piece wheels, but I was never successful in getting it assembled.....
Question:	Does this have plastic gears? I have read a lot about these and ones with plastic gears wear out quickly
Answer:	No! The drive and the lever that sets the opening are metal. The covering over the metal is plastic to protect it from the elements. If I were allowed to take a picture and attach it, I would, it is NOT plastic. Most of the wear and tear parts are metal with the exception of the hopper, inflatable wheels, and the little fan that distributes the product from the hopper. The drive which determines how fast the little fan moves to distribute the product rotates based on the speed you are going. This is hooked to the same metal bar that rotates the wheels and then to the part that rotates the fan. I’m sure that I’m not using all the proper names because I’m not a mechanic, but hopefully this all is a non-techie view. The machine operates exceptionally well, and I can easily compare it to the ones costing $250 dollars. The mechanisms are all built the same with the exception of the hopper and the fan which distributes the production; in the $250 spreader these are metal. However, both still only spread 4’. If you spend more $400, you can get a spreader with an axial; this doesn’t have one! The wheels on this are big and far better than the $250 one I had! Hope this helps!

Question:	How many cubic feet of peat moss should I use as topdressing over 2100 sq ft lawn with this spreader
Answer:	It is very dependent on how thick a layer you intend to put down. About 4-5 of the large bags of peat moss you would find at Home Depot or Lowes (I think they are 3.8 cu ft compressed) is what I would buy for an area that size. According to the peat moss manufacturer, you should apply 1/4 - 1/2 inch over existing lawn. That calculation gets you 45-85 cubic ft. for your area, which seems like a lot for top dressing. Question:	How many pounds of fertilizer does this spreader hold
Answer:	It hold the contents of a 5000 sq ft Scott’s fertilizer product. Think that is about 15-20 lbs. nice unit but you have to be careful on the opening since there is no established way to know in advance the flow. Trial and error. Start at low setting and take it slowly step by step.
Question:	Anything I have ever spread just gives scotts spreader settings, so how do you know what the equivalent setting is using the earthway
Answer:	The spreader comes with a chart that you can use. You basically look at the lbs of the bag you bought vs the sq ft that the bag says it covers. You can use those numbers in the chart to get a value, then you look at another chart it came with and that tells you the setting to use on the spreader. I can't say it is 100% accurate, but that is how they say to do it. I used mine for the first time a few weeks ago and the amount coming out seemed about what I thought it should. Hope that helps.

Question:	Can you broadcast pellets like milorganite and shin nong pro
Answer:	I bought mine to use to spread Milo. I usually throw down 12 bags. Sadly, this spreader doesn’t hold an entire bag so I had to refill constantly. I ended up buying a Lesco 80lb spreader and called it a day. It can fit nearly 3 bags at a time. I also use BayState Fertilizer which is similar to Milo and. I can fit 2 of the 40lb bags easily. One other thing I wasn’t a fan of was it seemed like products like grubex empties way too quickly when on the “correct” setting, so make sure you use your judgement and adjust the setting as you go. Question:	Does the gear box have to be lubed annually if its enclosed
Answer:	There was no grease or oil on mine out of the box. First thing I did after assembly was follow the lubrication instructions in the manual.
Question:	Will this work with sand
Answer:	I've only used it for salt. If the sand is coarse it should work without running out through the gate. If the sand is too fine I think it will leak by no matter how tightly you close the feed gate.
Question:	What is the height of the handles off the ground? i'm 6'4" and most spreaders are too short for me
Answer:	The overall height would be 33.63" for this spreader.
Question:	Is there a chart to set Agway spreader settings to match the settings on Scott's fertilizer bags
Answer:	There is no chart. The manual says that for light applications, set the opening to 3, medium 4, heavy 5. That really doesnt tell you S***. My solution is fairly simple. Set your Scotts, or whatever you are using, to the setting recommended on the bag. Measure the width of the opening. If the length of the opening is anywhere close to the opening on your walk behind, set your agri fab to the same width. That should give you very close to the setting you need for your agri fab

Answer:	We have a John Deere 320 and it works great.
Question:	how does this spreader work with grass seeds? I saw only fertilizer mentioned. Need to reseed 2-3 acres
Answer:	I used in 15 acres with fertilizer and worked very good . Spayed in a width of around 15 ft. I suppose that it will work similar for seeds but I have not tried for that

Answer:	I have used this 4 or 5 times and didn't notice any damage or strain. I am assuming you are asking because the augar stick would be spinning backwards. The spreader works very well and is very stable because the tub sits lower then most others and is perpendicular with the axle not parralel over the wheels

Answer:	I am not sure what these guys are talking about, but I was completely satisfied with this spreader. It is sturdy and not cheaply made. If you assemble it correctly, you will not have a problem. Agri Fab is a US company and their mfg plant is in Ill. Dont believe the fake news!

Question:	I've owned two earthway shoulder spreaders, one with metal, one with plastic spreading mechanisms. Which is this one
Answer:	Mine has a plastic disc on a metal shaft. I have two of them and they work very well. Two of us did about 8 acres with them. Went faster than I expected.
Question:	Will this spreader work for Milky Spore granules? They said a regular broadcast spreader is too big of an opening for it. It's very fine granules
Answer:	I used it to spread some fine native seed that was maybe .030" diameter by about 3/16" long. You just have to adjust the feed slot down and spin faster and walk faster.
Question:	Has anyone tried spreading clover seed with this? The seed is so small I'm afraid it won't spread evenly
Answer:	Having used one of these for many years, I believe it spreads more evenly than any other type of spreader. It slowly meters out the seed as the crank is turned. Technique and wind are keys to a good spread.
Question:	Does this work for spreading wild flower seed? It says we should mix it with something inert, sand, to help cast the seeds better. The seeds are fuzzy
Answer:	I have broadcast wildflower seed with good success but it was a mix of 20 or so different types of wildflower seed. Some were fluffy but most were not. With them being mixed they flowed pretty good. If you were only doing one type of seed and it was fluffy, you would likely need to mix it with something like sand or fertilizer.Hope this helps!

Answer:	Hello - Well that is what I bought it for - but it does not work well as the wheels slip and do not turn enough to spread the salt. So my answer would be a strong no.

Answer:	I mounted it on the front of my zero turn, if you dont have a welder and mechanical knowledge,it woul be hard! Had to make bracket to mount it,a shield to keep from stuff from flying back on you and run wires to front!

Answer:	Used it for calcium chloride flake on driveway last winter....initial problems with flake jamming in output slot. Had to open it wide to avoid jamming and probably used more than normal. Bottom line is it works, but some experimenting is required. Would probably work better if used with pellets instead of flakes, but that's user preferrnce

Answer:	I have never tried to spread anything but see or granualized fertilizer. The manure would have to be completely dry and broken into small "chunks."
Question:	Does the actuating gate open and close well when unit is full of fertilizer? My cheap Scott's spreader stays open even when I release handle. Thanks
Answer:	This unit does not have an actuating gate like the cheap spreaders. This is a straight throttle cable NOT a spring loaded cable. The ones on the Scott spreaders generally stay open when you hold the handle and spring back when you let go. If anything is in the way it can stay open. This is a straight throttle cable where you push the handle to open it and pull it back when you want to close it. Some people feel it is a drawback since it isn't as convenient when working in small areas.
Question:	Is it calibrated with numbers like a Scott's spreader (most bags give coverage numbers seem to expect you to have a Scott's spreader)? Thanks
Answer:	There are numbers but they are different from the Scott's numbers. I remember seeing a conversion table on the internet but we just use 0/25/50/75/100% "slot open percent". It's a great, durable spreader and it's worth the workaround on the calibration numbers.
Question:	Is there an edge guard available for this product? Hopper cover
Answer:	Their web site has a lot more info. But they do have "Optional 3-sided deflector - #60200 for $81.90", and "Optional Rain cover - #77003 for $26.22". But don't know about an edge guard. So I would say no.

Answer:	It sounds like your spreader may need to be re-calibrated. Please refer to the section in the manual entitled Broadcast Setting Matrix - Calibration Techniques for instructions.
Question:	I am looking to spread sand over my lawn. I tried to do this with my current spreader but it just clumps and won’t spread. Will this spread sand
Answer:	It can, but I don't recommend it. I sanded my 5,000 square foot lawn by hand and leveled it with a Rockland lawn leveling tool. It came out great, but was a lot of work.

Answer:	Yes - assembly is required. Complete assembly instructions are provided in the enclosed manual.
Question:	is this like most spreaders that when you get to the last of product you have to "left and jerk
Answer:	Not as much as other spreaders due to the 3 slot openings.

The Yard Star spreader will require some assembly. Once fully assembled, start by making sure the spreader is properly calibrated using the instructions provided.

For spreader settings, refer to individual product labels as rates will differ.

To apply using Yard Star, walk back and forth across the lawn at a normal rate. Notice the effective width of the application and allow 6 inches of overlap on each return. Always clean out the spreader after use. Check calibration regularly and adjust as necessary to ensure consistent performance.
