12 best nutrients
Nutrients, in the context of gardening and plant care, are essential elements that plants require for healthy growth and development. These nutrients are crucial for various biological processes within plants, and they are typically obtained from the soil or through fertilization. Here's what you need to know about nutrients in the context of gardening, specifically related to Fertilizers, Plant Food, Soils, Gardening, and Lawn Care:
Macro Nutrients: Plants need several primary macronutrients in relatively large quantities. These include:
- Nitrogen (N): Essential for leafy green growth and overall plant vigor.
- Phosphorus (P): Important for root development, flowering, and fruiting.
- Potassium (K): Aids in overall plant health, disease resistance, and stress tolerance.
Secondary Nutrients: Secondary nutrients are needed in smaller amounts than macronutrients but are still important for plant growth. They include:
- Calcium (Ca): Vital for cell wall formation and plant structure.
- Magnesium (Mg): Part of the chlorophyll molecule and essential for photosynthesis.
- Sulfur (S): Important for protein synthesis and overall plant health.
Micronutrients: These are trace elements required in very small quantities. Common micronutrients include iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), boron (B), and molybdenum (Mo). Micronutrients are essential for various enzyme activities and metabolic processes in plants.
Sources of Nutrients: Nutrients are naturally present in soil, but their availability to plants can vary depending on soil type and pH. Gardeners often use fertilizers to supplement nutrient levels in the soil. Fertilizers can be organic (e.g., compost, manure) or synthetic (e.g., granular or liquid chemical fertilizers).
Nutrient Deficiency: When plants lack essential nutrients, they can exhibit specific symptoms. For example, a nitrogen deficiency might result in yellowing leaves, while a phosphorus deficiency can lead to poor root development and reduced flowering.
Soil Testing: It's essential to understand the nutrient composition of your soil before adding fertilizers. Soil testing helps determine which nutrients are lacking and allows for targeted fertilization.
Fertilizer Application: Fertilizers should be applied according to the specific needs of your plants and the recommendations on the fertilizer product label.Over-fertilization can harm plants and the environment, so it's crucial to follow guidelines.
Organic vs. Synthetic Fertilizers: Gardeners have the choice between organic and synthetic fertilizers. Organic options are derived from natural sources and contribute to soil health, while synthetic fertilizers offer precise nutrient control but may not benefit soil as much.
Nutrient Release: Fertilizers release nutrients either slowly (slow-release fertilizers) or quickly (quick-release fertilizers). The choice depends on your plants' requirements and your desired application frequency.
Environmental Impact: Excessive use of fertilizers can lead to nutrient runoff, which can harm aquatic ecosystems. Proper fertilizer management is essential to minimize environmental impact.
In summary, nutrients are essential for the healthy growth of plants, and they are a key consideration in gardening and lawn care. Understanding the nutrient requirements of your plants, soil testing, and responsible fertilizer application are important practices to ensure your garden thrives while minimizing environmental impact.

User questions & answers
Question: | Do i add this to water that is already balanced or do i mix it then set pH for my needs. I guess what im asking is is it neutral |
Answer: | I have to very slightly adjust PH, down, as always, after adding nutes. My tap water has a TDS of 90-ish ppm and a PH of 8 out of tap. When mixed in 5 gallon buckets... I add 20 ml of each ( Micro, Grow, Bloom: in that order) I end up with a TDS of 480 - 500 ppm and a PH of 6.2 ish. Growing hydro lettuce (Kratky and DWC) So I drop 4-5 drops of PH Down in the bucket and things look good, dropping PH into the high 5's. |
Question: | I dont see how often you apply just the strenght |
Answer: | On the website it says that if you dump your reservoir once a week then you can top it off with just plain water in between. The table on the bottle is not for any photoperiod plants so please check their website as they do have a feeding schedule for photoperiod plants, such as medical marijuana. They will not answer any questions regarding marijuana so never say or use any term referring to marijuana. So far this may be my favorite hydro fertilizer I have used, it's easy to use, helps stabilize PH and has made my plants grow much faster, not to mention how great the root growth is. |
Question: | Approximately how many gallons of nutrient solution will this make |
Answer: | 1 (US) fluid ounce, equals 6 (US) teaspoons. So it's 6 times the amount of ounces in bottle for the total amount of teaspoons telling you how many gallons you can get. With a 32 oz bottle if you use one teaspoon per gallon of water that's 102 gallons of mix. 204 gallons of mix if you only use half a teaspoon. |
Question: | Is it necessary to mix 2 tonics together? How much tonic do I use if I have a 20 gallon reservoir |
Answer: | I grow in soil. The soil I use is already rich in nutrition "Happy Frog". I use about 1/2 teaspoon of FloraGro & 1/2 teaspoon FloraMicro per Gallon of water. I water every 3 to 4 days depending on the Moisture of the soil. Every 3rd feeding I flush the plants with pure water and let the soil to dry until I notice stress in the plant and resume feeding. When it's time to induce flowering I quit using FloraGro. And start using 1 teaspoon FloraBloom and 1 teaspoon FloraMicro and follow the same feeding schedule as above. The FloraMicro is very important for overall health and vigor of the plant. About 10 days before harvest I flush with a 1/2 teaspoon FloraBloom and FloraMicro, 5 days before harvest I flush with pure water and let dry out for 5 to 6 days then harvest. Very IMPORTANT! Is the Ph of your water after adding your fertilizer and when you flush with pure water. I keep my Ph @ 6.0 Just a helpful hint. Happy growing! |

Question: | How long will a liter last you |
Answer: | A liter not make quite 3 weeks my res is 150 liters so I use 600ml a week |

Twin Canaries Liquid Volume Conversion Chart
Soil Feeding Schedule
Use your preferred FoxFarm potting soil when transplanting seedlings into larger containers. We recommend a two gallon size or larger. FOR BEST RESULTS: Feed up to two times per week. Maintain a pH of 5.6 to 6.8 to prevent nutrient lockout and reduce stress on plants. Never mix pure concentrates together; always add water first. Should plants show signs of stress or color irregularities, flush your system. When using coco-based media, flush every two weeks during the flowering cycle as coco has a tendency to retain unwanted salt residue more than peat-based soils.

User questions & answers
Question: | How much liquid does the pipette hold |
Answer: | There was only one bell in the box. |
Question: | Is this organic |
Answer: | Unfortunately, many items we purchase in the USA, are made in China. This bell is made in China. However, it is stainless steel, very high quality, and most importantly my African Grey absolutely ADORES IT. |
Question: | Does it have to be special soil |
Answer: | The one I ordered was the Small. The bell itself is about 3.5" long, with the chain approximately 7.5" long. The sound is not super-loud, but I love that about this bell, because it's not annoying. |
Question: | is tiger bloom the last stage of product to use in the end of flowering or is it fox farm Big bloom |
Answer: | Yes, it is solid stainless. The thing I really like is that because of the elongated shape, my African Grey can in no way get the clapper out of the bell, although he tries. Most bells I've bought for him, he works on them for a few days and I end up taking them away because he loosens the clapper which is a choking hazard. |
