14 best flower fertilizers

Flower fertilizers are essential for promoting healthy growth and vibrant blooms in your garden. They provide the necessary nutrients that plants need for their development. Here's what you should know about flower fertilizers:

  1. Types of Fertilizers: There are various types of flower fertilizers available, including synthetic or chemical fertilizers and organic fertilizers. Synthetic fertilizers typically contain specific concentrations of essential nutrients, while organic fertilizers are made from natural materials and release nutrients slowly over time.

  2. Nutrient Content: Fertilizers are labeled with a series of numbers that represent their nutrient content. These numbers typically indicate the percentage of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) in the fertilizer. For flowering plants, you may want a fertilizer with a higher phosphorus (P) content, as it supports flower and fruit production.

  3. Timing of Application: The timing of fertilizer application depends on the type of flowers you're growing. In general, you can apply fertilizer in early spring before the growing season begins and again in late summer to provide nutrients for fall blooms. Be cautious not to over-fertilize, as this can harm your plants.

  4. Application Methods: Fertilizers can be applied in several ways, including broadcasting granules, mixing with water for liquid application, or using slow-release fertilizer spikes. The method you choose depends on your preference and the specific needs of your flowers.

  5. Slow-Release Fertilizers: Slow-release fertilizers, whether synthetic or organic, release nutrients gradually over an extended period. They can reduce the risk of over-fertilization and provide a steady supply of nutrients to your plants.

  6. Organic Fertilizers: Organic fertilizers, such as compost, well-rotted manure, and bone meal, improve soil structure and microbial activity while providing essential nutrients. They are often preferred by gardeners looking to build and maintain healthy, nutrient-rich soil.

  7. Soil Testing: It's advisable to conduct a soil test before applying fertilizer. This will help you determine the specific nutrient needs of your soil and prevent over-fertilization, which can lead to nutrient imbalances.

  8. Environmental Considerations: When using fertilizers, follow the application instructions carefully to avoid runoff into water sources, which can harm the environment. Store fertilizers in a cool, dry place, away from children and pets.

  9. Balanced Fertilization: In addition to the primary nutrients (N, P, and K), your flowers also require secondary and micronutrients like calcium, magnesium, sulfur, and iron. Balanced fertilization ensures your plants receive all the essential elements they need for healthy growth.

  10. Regular Feeding: Many gardeners choose to feed their flowering plants regularly throughout the growing season to ensure a continuous supply of nutrients. Always follow the recommended dosage on the fertilizer label.

Remember that proper fertilization is just one aspect of successful flower gardening.Adequate watering, proper sunlight, and soil health are also crucial factors in helping your flowers thrive. By choosing the right fertilizer and applying it correctly, you can enjoy beautiful and healthy blooms in your garden.

Question: Does this work on peonies to promote more blooms
Answer: Yes, this will promote more blooms. Because the middle number is highest, (3-9-4) this blend will encourage your peonies to bloom well. Make sure to supplement with Calcium (bone meal) because strong stems require calcium! Add according to directions. Mix into soil around the base and drip line of your peony bush, then water well. If you are planting peonies in the ground for the first time, ask your local nursery if you should protect the roots from gophers. If so, this will require more preparation, but will be well worth it. Best of luck to you.
Question: Has anyone used this with dahlias

User questions & answers

Question: Can this be used for pomegranate plants
Answer: Pomegranate plants or trees can use this fertilizer, since their needs are similar, but I read that a 8-8-8 formula would be better formulation. This fertilizer ,Miracle Grow Shake'n'feed for citrus is 13-7-13.
Question: Has anyone used this product on avocado trees
Answer: I am a science teacher and have grown many Avocados from a pit, and have only used this product. Many of my trees are 1-4 years old and doing better than expected.
Question: What is the NPK ratio for this fertilizer
Answer: The NPK is 8-2-12
Question: What is the n-p-k ratio of this product? why are we having to ask this, this is basic
Answer: A 12-4-8 NPK ratio is not a good formula for tomato fruit production. It's OK to give it this when the plant is small, but you will not get a good tomato crop if you continue with this ratio. Fruit production requires more phosphorus than this fertilizer can provide. I always have excellent fruit production with 10-10-10.

Delivers long-term benefits without chemicals. Jobe's Biozome is a unique & Proprietary blend of beneficial microorganisms Archaea, mycorrhizal fungi & healthy bacteria. Archaea, a recently identified microorganism found in some of the planet's most extreme environments, such as hydrothermal vents on the ocean floor. In garden applications, scientists have discovered that these microbes actually clean the soil, returning it to a healthier, more natural state. Jobe's Biozome contains a proprietary species of Archaea that quickly break-down complex hydrocarbons & minerals into basic nutrients & trace elements that plants readily absorb. Mycorrhizal fungi expands the surface-absorbing area of the roots by 100 to 1, 000 times, sending out filaments that act as extensions of the plant's root system, helping plants absorb more water & nutrients. In return, the fungi receive essential sugars & other compounds from the plant roots, fueling their own growth. Finally, the healthy bacterial strain in Biozome improves the soil structure & quality, keeping nutrients near the roots. Jobe's Organics Flower & Rose granular fertilizer is OMRI listed & may be used in certified organic food production according to the USDA national organic program. User questions & answers

Question: What is the solution (NPK) on this
Answer: There is no such listing as "NPK" on the ingredient percentages
Question: For a potted meyer lemon tree, how much should I use
Answer: My lemon tree is only about 2 ft. tall and has been inside all winter. I added 1 3/4C. Jobe's fertilizer and watered it well. that was two days ago and it appears to be doing very well. Because my tree has been inside I have been misting the leaves every day.It had about 50 blossoms on it and is very healthy. I hope to plant it in the ground in April or May.,
Question: What is the percentage of nitrogen, phosphate and potassium in the fertilizer
Answer: This fertilizer is 4-4-4. The first number indicates 4% nitrogen, second 4% phosphorus and the third 4% potassium. The best way is to incorporate 4 pounds of 4-4-4 per 100 sq.ft. prior to planting. This kind of fertilizer is called "all purpose" fertilizer. My recommendation is that you analyze your soil with an inexpensive test kit (Amazon has them). Then decide what you want to grow and research on-line what the optimum fertilization ranges are for your specific plants or vegetables. Then, if you incorporate the all purpose fertilizer into you soil before planting you can spot supplement with specific fertilizers as needed. There are many organic solutions available to you. The great thing about Jobe's -09526 is that it is organic so you will be starting off the right way. Lots of luck with your plants.
Question: what are the actual ingredients
Answer: Protein Hydrolysate from feather meal, bone meal, composted poultry manure, sulfate of potash and various bacteria, endomycorrhizae, ectomycorrhzae and archaea.

User questions & answers

Question: I have a container grown mandarin orange tree (40" tall). Should I use the all purpose food or find a better N,P,K formula for citrus only
Answer: If you already have the all purpose spray use it. Spray the leaves, stems and roots once a week for a month, then decide for your self. If you can't see a difference it's not working for your tree. All my plants are under 4 feet, but my climbing roses. My small figs, goji berries, honeysuckle, hibiscus, jasmine and roses respond to miracle. My other plants do not respond, try and learn. I hope this was helpful. Keith central Florida
Question: Anybody have a good experience feeding this to their potted Sago's
Answer: YES, I was a over the road trucker for 24 years. I know nothing about plants. This product WORKS, everything under 4 feet needs it. We have reordered 3 X 10 pound to last all year. This and black cow are the two most important things growers need. Hope this was helpful, good luck and GOD bless... Keith and Mary
Question: how much fertilizer per water
Answer: The product comes with directions For garden plants outside use one tablespoon per gallon. The spoon comeswith the product. For use on inside plants use the small side of the spoon about 1/2 tsp pergallon. for tomatoes use tomato fertilizer, use mir gro 2000421. If you need more help please ask? If you have cabbage problems use a BT product, the little bugs hate it. If you want some spendy stuff use a worm compost tea solution. It is natures organic worm castings, amz sells it good stuff, I think 5lbs for $16.00, Goes a long way. Surprise your neighbors who have a garden.
Question: do you have to dilute this in water? I am looking for a sprinkle on and forget about it pellet
Answer: You can sprinkle it on and then water it in. Make sure you don't get it to close to the truck (base of the plant) or the leaves as it may burn them. I don't use it without diluting on seedlings. Just on established plants. The problem with sprinkling on is remember it only takes a small amount of the Miracle Grow to make a gallon of water so don't put a lot in the pot.

User questions & answers

Question: Can I use for begonias that are in and outside
Answer: Plants need a lot of water when using this product to prevent root burn and damage (Found out the hard way.) I personally wouldn't use it on potted plants indoors. I do use it in outdoor plants in summer, but I soak the soil well first, pour in the diluted Super Bloom, then add a little more water afterward. You also can adjust the water/granular ratio if needed. This all depends on how much rain you're getting, of course. Stunning results, so it's worth the trouble.
Question: Would someone please post a photo of the back of the bottle

Answer: Others are wrong.I use this every two months.my scotts mini broadcast at 2.5 setting.my yard is thick and lush.I also have St Augustine grass.st Augustine likes water but not sitting in it for long periods.it also likes fertilizer.I found the starter applied in the spring and the southern after that the rest of the year works fantastic.Do not use bonus s fertilizer.neighbors have had terrible results with that.As Efraim said do not go by recommend settings.go by half recommend setting.I found 2.5 best on broadcast scotts spreader.also use a liquid weed killer for Augustine grass and only treat problem areas.the grass will grow in thick and choke out future weeds.also at least once a year use a fungicide.scotts disease ex works great.all my neighbors have brown spots i do not.remember here in houston we have very sandy soil so fertilizers dissipate into soil quickly.other areas may require less fertilizing intervals as soil retention may be better.
Question: Is it more economical to buy the granules vs the concentrate in this? Do u get more "servings" with the granules or is it the same
Answer: Power Grow combined with Liquid Lawn Aerator makes a great starter fertilizer for any type of seed. It provides the nutrients, trace elements and organics needed for deep rooting and quick establishment of the new plants.
Question: Can I use this on my container roses
Answer: The Power Grow covers 5-10 oz per 1,000 sq. ft. so you will need to determine your lawn size , you can dilute 2-4 oz per gallon of water.
Question: Is this a systemic drench
Answer: You will want to apply at a rate of 5–10 oz. per 1,000 sq. ft. For less severe deficiency or maintenance, apply 5 oz. per 1,000 sq. ft. For more severe nutrient deficiency, apply 10 oz. per 1,000 sq. ft.

User questions & answers

Question: Can i use this indoors
Answer: The NPK is 8-2-12
Question: what is its expiration date
Answer: A 12-4-8 NPK ratio is not a good formula for tomato fruit production. It's OK to give it this when the plant is small, but you will not get a good tomato crop if you continue with this ratio. Fruit production requires more phosphorus than this fertilizer can provide. I always have excellent fruit production with 10-10-10.
Question: I live in southern ca. can i still use this now
Answer: No it doesn't.
Question: why is this not good for potted roses, I have 3 in the largest pots Walmart has, will that make a difference
Answer: I think they sent five 5lb boxes.
