User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be used for muhly grass outside |
Answer: | I have not tried it but as long as you dilute it I don't see why not.I would try a small hidden area first to test it out. |
Question: | Is this good for dwarf canvendish banana trees |
Answer: | I use this product for my dwarf fig trees it works well . I have dwarf fig on my balcony. |
Question: | Why does the bottle say not to store diluted product |
Answer: | I read that too and wondered the same. I thought maybe by making the solution and store it the water would evaporate and the fertilizer would be stronger and harm your plants That was my guess anyway. When I make the solution in a gallon jug, i just make sure to use it within a couple days. BTW, all my indoor plants love it! I hope I helped. |
Question: | How many square feet does this give you |
Answer: | We used 1 kitchen teaspoon per gallon of water. So it all depends on how much water you use on the plants. We also stored leftover feed in an old milk jug written on all four sides for what it contains. Hope this helps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How long is this shelf stable? And how long once opened |
Answer: | Yes, I use mine mixed with water in a self watering pot. My plant loves it! |
Question: | Is this organic? Can it be used on edible plants and veggies |
Answer: | I water typically from the bottom. I have the terra-cotta pot resting in a saucer with small stones. The plant takes up the water from its roots. |
Question: | Should I be using plant food in addition to fish fertilizer |
Answer: | I've not used Scott's, but am familiar with several other brands including fertilizer blends created by violet-grower companies. I've been using the Bonide AV fertilizer for circa 2 years, and have had great results. The fertilizer composition of 7-10-7 seem to be just right for violets and mine bloom pretty much all year. It is normal for violets to bloom a bit less in winter, especially if the house is cooler. Personally, I recommend this brand--but people who have different growing conditions than mine may have different results. I'd say go with Bonide, and forget the expensive spread! Hint: If you want larger flowers, feed your AV from the bottom using a saucer and 7 to 9 drops of Bonide per quart of aged water (to get rid of chlorine.) Allow your AVs to absorb water from the saucer for about an hour, max. Then be sure to drain off all excess water as violets don't like their "feet" wet all the time. Water next time when soil surface is dry to touch, which might be a week. Also--I use the same AV fertilizer for my phaleonopsis orchids--they've been blooming great this spring. Regards. |
Question: | Does this contain any mercury |
Answer: | If a quart is too much solution for you, consider making half a quart or less. Using a measuring cup so that you get a precise amount of fertilizer into the amount of water you want. The directions on the Bonide container should be sufficient guidance. You should probably not make up more than a week's worth of solution at a time. Fertilizers are good for plants, but if stored too long can invite bacteria and molds. If you plan to use a watering can, you should wash it well with soap and a brush every few months. Rinse well after washing. Good luck! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it kill thrips |
Answer: | Yes it on the list of insects on the label. I use it for Japanese Beatles |
Question: | Is this product organic |
Answer: | I use the recommended ration on all plants because the bugs I use it for are little skinny white worms that eat up the roots. If you don't get the answer you are looking for then I would suggest trying a slightly diluted formula first as a test. We use Neam oil on our rose foliage. Neam oil needs to be shaken constantly as you spray it since oil and water rapidly separate. |
Question: | Does this work for fungus gnats |
Answer: | I looked at the label it will kill over 100 different insects but I didn't see squash vine borer |
Question: | Has anyone used this to prevent squash borers? My zuchinni squash yield has been very poor for the last two years when only using insecticides |
Answer: | I am a certified pesticide applicator here's the best advice any one can give you: Read the label including all safety rules, harvest restrictions, what pests it will kill etc.; you can get it for free online from bonide products; if its not labeled for it do not use it. This product is highly effective against a wide variety of bugs but is especially effective against beetles & other hard shelled insects such as fleas & ticks. If worms are your issue this will work too but there are other products that work on worms such as BT & pyrethroids (bonide products sells these as well). The chemical is Permetherin; many products contain Permetherin; they are not all the same strength & thus are not used (labeled) for same things. Always read the label & use the correct amount of any pesticide & do not use the same pesticide all the time. Following label instructions & changing products (modes of action) minimizes the changes of resistance to the product & ensures satisfactory results. |

Question: | How do you mix this for foliar application to be used on tomato plants |
Answer: | Yes, recommendation is tank sprayer |
Question: | Would this be okay to use on bougainvillea plant |
Answer: | No n-p-k. As the name describes, it is iron chelate, very safe. It will stain, however, so avoid getting it on buildings, sidewalks, and the like. |
Question: | Is this product a concentrate? If so, what is the ratio to water |
Answer: | Yes. The iron falls out of the solution and binds to form a solid. |
Question: | Is the iron chelated |
Answer: | The exact levels will depend upon surface area of desired coverage, soil type, etc... I will say that we saw improvement after the very 1st application. |
