Smelled like dirt or earth-soil, that was clean and fresh. In the past, there may have been a heavy scent from other labels. Buying Black Gold was a lucky guess. I've been using it ever since, both the regular and organic.

Answer:	At least two. I'm on my second season. Don't add too much. This stuff expands in the pots.
Question:	I want to add this product to all my landscaping during our CA drought. Can I sprinkle it over all my plants or do I have to dig up my entire garden
Answer:	No you can't sprinkle it on the ground. But you don't have to dig up your garden either. What you can do is dig some holes or area around each plant, getting as close as you can without damaging the plant roots. I usually do this for an established garden areas. I make the holes (3 for each plant) or digging areas close to plants as I can then put about 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. Then replace the dirt. After I've finished I water a bit to soak the dirt back into place.If you want to see what the Crystals look like when wet. Put about 1/4 tsp in a 2c measuring cup add about 1/2 of water. They get huge! Then you can just put this in the ground or planter with a plant.Hope this helps

Answer:	Yes, you can use this in pots with plants in them. Make several holes in the soil (with a stick or pencil) evenly spaced around the plant (avoiding the root area) and incorporate Miracle-Gro Water Storing Crystals evenly into the holes. Cover the holes with soil and water thoroughly to activate the water storing properties.

Answer:	I am an industrial chemist (retired) and worked at a complex with a plant making 350,000 pounds of acrylamide (monomer) a day. While acrylamide itself is quite toxic and carcinogenic. polyacrylamide is utterly harmless. Polyacrylamide is, as the name suggests, a polymer of acrylamide. The polymerization reaction destroys the toxicity and carcinogenicity of the molecule. As long as all of the monomer is removed, there are no worries. If you are a bit OCD, you can put the "crystals" in a large excess of water, let it sit for a few hours, and pour off the water.

Answer:	I wish it were just gnats. I just bought a 55 quart bag of this at Costco. When repotting I saw numerous grubs or larvae of some sort. I had only repotted one house plant when I noticed them. I will leave it outside, and before I bring it in will repot again with a sterilized potting soil. I used this, or another miracle gro soil, repotting indoor plants that live outside in the summer, three years ago. I pot in a lightweight pot that I put inside of my decorative pots, and when I took the same plant out of the decorative pot to move it outside the following spring, there were HUGE (2-3 inches long) cockroach-looking bugs in the outer pot. I wish I'd thought to kill them but I was so grossed out I just got the plant outside and quickly returned for the decorative pot. I fear I may have introduced a population I don't want into my yard, and I have seen a few of them since. They are huge, and slow, and I can't find them in any of the Virgina entyomology websites. I am sincerely hoping that they will die off. I shouldn't have purchased Miracle Gro again--and now that I see the grubs, I'm opening the bag and letting the soil sit, hoping that my blue jays, catbirds, wrens, robins and other insect eating birds get to it. I surely will NOT be using it again for any indoor plants. Nor will I buy Miracle Grow again. We don't need insect species that would not normally live here.

Answer:	Who cares? Maybe about 10 inches? Just stick it in the pot and you are good to water or not.
Question:	Can i leave this outside just in the soil next to my tree or should i be taking it out after each test to clean it periodically
Answer:	You can leave it out but why would you? Once you test the moisture then I would clean it and bring it in. It will keep on testing and the battery will die. If you are using it to check the tree (just planted?) then I would say to put your hose on just a drip and let it run all night or all day and that should force the tree roots to grow down which is what you want. Tree's need a lot of water at the time of planting. I hope this helps.

Question:	Can they be used with Diatomaceous Earth or will it kill them
Answer:	Since Diatomaceous earth will dry out most pests, and since we use water to facilitate the Nematodes for application , I would assume that keeping the soil very hydrated would be a must. Nematodes do not last forever, you might consider applying multiple doses of Nematodes with Diatomaceous earth. Diatomaceous Earth should retard most pest with soil born eggs. I personally like good bugs so with nematodes I would not use Diatomaceous earth.
Question:	Can this be used on banana plants
Answer:	Nematodes do not harm plants.

Question:	So do these small pads work in large pots too? Most of my pots are huge & wonder if they are just supposed to cover the hole in bottom or all bottom
Answer:	I potted up five plants just today using the mesh pieces. The hole in each pot, no matter the size, is relatively the same. The mesh is meant to cover up the hole no matter the size of the pot. I am very pleased with these and will order more again. I highly recommend them. I am a gardener and I grow cactus and succulent plants. I currently have more than 400 pots of plants and plan to use these mesh pieces on all future potting and repotting.
