User questions & answers
Question: | Are sulfites used as a preservative in this product? Don't see any specifications on the label |
Answer: | Not dure |
Question: | do you have to soak them and for how long |
Answer: | Depends on what you are using them for. If I am using them in soup or pho I just toss them in. For a stir fry I soak them first in water. They rehydrate fast and become very large. Soak way less than you think you will need! Soak time only 5-10 minutes. |
Question: | How do you store them in their dried form after opening the bag |
Answer: | I have a food saver vacuum with a attachment for jars. I breakup the mushrooms into smaller pieces and put them into quart jars and vacuum seal them. You don't have to vacuum seal the jars as the mushrooms are really dry, I just like using the vacuum sealer. Or you can store them in one gallon freezer bags. It's up to you. |

Question: | Are these mushrooms really organic? Other than the name of the company, the word organic doesn't appear on the label at all |
Answer: | I don't know. I threw the bag away. |
Question: | Are the mushrooms orgainic? the only place I see the word Organic used is in the company name |
Answer: | Package said it is, but I am not really sure |
Question: | What is the country of origin |
Answer: | The package says, in small print on the front "authentic Chinese product" Before we purchased, we tried to find some that said grown in the US and could not find any. |
Question: | Are these mushrooms from China |
Answer: | Yes... In very small print on front of package it reads "authentic china product" in a circle-and had I known would not have purchased. After hydrating & cooking the texture is still tough & they taste like what I imagine wood pulp tastes. The resulting water from soaking is equally unappealing. |

Growing your own mushrooms on straw logs or sawdust blocks is the perfect way to enjoy fresh mushrooms at home. It is a fun project to engage in and is low maintenance. Even if you do not have a large backyard, mushroom growing can be a great addition to your urban garden . Any hardwood loving mushrooms can be grown on straw, wood chips or sawdust blocks, including Shiitake, Oysters, Reishi, and Lion’s Mane. Mushroom cultivation involves first "inoculating" the substrate of your choice with mushroom mycelium, and then allowing the mycelium to colonize over a period of 2-3 weeks. When the substrate is fully colonized- and the conditions, such as light, moisture, and temperature, are right- the mushrooms will emerge from the substreate and can be harvested and enjoyed.
