14 best seedville shade grass seeds
Seedville is a brand that specializes in providing various types of grass seeds for lawn and garden care. While we don't have specific information on a "shade grass seed" product from Seedville because my knowledge is not up-to-date, we can provide some general information on shade grass seeds and what you might typically expect when looking for such products.
Shade grass seeds are specifically formulated for areas in your lawn or garden that receive limited sunlight or are predominantly shaded. These seeds are designed to thrive in conditions with less direct sunlight and are often a blend of different grass species that are shade-tolerant.
Some common features and considerations for shade grass seeds include:
Shade-Tolerant Grass Varieties: These seed blends usually include grass species like Fine Fescue (e.g., creeping red fescue, chewings fescue), Kentucky Bluegrass, and certain types of perennial ryegrass. These varieties can grow well in lower light conditions.
Blend Composition: Shade grass seed blends may consist of a mix of different grass types to ensure better adaptability and resilience in varying shade conditions.
Dense Growth: Many shade grass seeds aim to produce dense, lush lawns that can outcompete weeds in shaded areas.
Soil and Maintenance: It's essential to prepare your soil properly before planting shade grass seeds, ensuring it has good drainage and is well-nourished. Regular maintenance, including watering and mowing, is also important for healthy growth.
Local Climate: Consider the climate and specific shade conditions in your area when selecting shade grass seeds. Different regions may require different grass varieties and care routines.
Planting Guidelines: Follow the planting instructions provided by Seedville or any other seed provider for the best results. This often includes recommended seeding rates and depth.
Remember that the success of your lawn or garden depends not only on the quality of the seeds but also on proper soil preparation and ongoing care. If you have specific questions about Seedville's shade grass seed product, it's a good idea to consult the product label or reach out to Seedville's customer support for more detailed information tailored to their offerings.

User questions & answers
Question: | What kind of grass is this? Would like to see the back of the bag to see |
Answer: | How do I take a picture? There are 9+ ingrediences. I love the grass. Thick and a beautiful shade of green. That's about all I can say. I love it and it was my first time planting grass seed. I'm very pleased with the grass. |
Question: | What variety of grass seed is in this mix (i.e. %s |
Answer: | Hi, I am so I can't give you percentages of mix. The seeds are covered with a blue coating of fertilizer, which stays on for about 5 days even watering 3 times a day. This also keeps the birds from eating 20% of it. This is the 5th bag I have ordered as I have 1/3 acre of all weeds and dirt when I recently bought my house. It is an excellent blend and covers very well and spreads out and fills in. I have large areas that get 90% shade and it grows almost as fast as the seeds in full sun. Very happy with this seed. Can't tell you the blend, but it looks beautiful and no weeds at all. The grass comes up fast and full. I think You would be very happy with this product. Sincerely, Mark |
Question: | Is this grass okay for Arizona,s dry climate |
Answer: | No. The grass is similar to a winter rye grass that that does OK in the cooler winter months, but died in Texas as soon as it got hotter and dry. I would not recommend this grass for any southern hot and dry climate. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Has anyone tried growing this in southern Idaho |
Answer: | Not sure, but you may ask golf courses there... |
Question: | Would I be able to get a Phytosanitary certification on this product |
Answer: | It's not an import, and you'll only need it if you're exporting to another country. |
Question: | What type of zoysia is it? That question was not answered |
Answer: | Zoysia grass. The kind Scott sells. |
Question: | Is scotts zoysia grass ok for central il? neighbors appear to have it (telltale yellow in winter). i plan to seed into fescue/ bluegrass w/ 5-6hr sun |
Answer: | It will be probably be ok in Illinois. I have it in PA and it does fine. But it does turn white in early winter and stays that way till May till all of the dead grass disappears. The advantages in my opinion far out way the that. They are, when it fully takes hold, the thickness, slow growing, drought resistance, and it chokes out weeds because it is so thick. However I did not have good luck with this seed and planting plugs are a pain in the but. Hope this helps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the coverage ratio for this seed |
Answer: | Sorry, I cannot remember as it's been 4 summers ago that I sowed this onto my new lawn in mid-Missouri where the heat is usually very intense in summer and winters are quite cold. My lawn is the envy of the entire neighborhood and I am very pleased with this seed. We broadcast this seed like we would have any other kind of grass seed and then spread a fairly thick blanket of straw over the entire lawn. We have an automatic sprinkler system and kept it watered twice daily at first. The color of our lawn is just beautiful and remains mostly green even in the winter. |
Question: | What is the tested date and expiration date for the seed |
Answer: | Test date is when they actually tested the seed to confirm the germination rates. Expiration date is the date that the expected germination rate will significantly drop off compared to the label claim. Off course this varies significantly based on environmental conditions. that's why northern states have a longer shelf life than hotter sates. Bags stored in sealed, cool and dry areas will last longer than a bag with a small hole that sat on an outdoor shelf exposed to heat, sun and humidity at a big box store. |
Question: | what is the mixn this seed |
Answer: | Scotts Turf Builder, Heat Tolerant Blue Mix, 16.57% Endeavor II Tall Fescue, 14.62% Gazelle II Tall Fescue, 13,65% Dynamic II Tall Fescue, 3.9% Tharmal Blue Kentucky Bluegrass. Other ingredients - Water Smart Plus Fertilizer Coating. We've tried tons of diff grass seeds for diff projects at diff properties - this is absolutely #1 in our book. Whenever we have another project - this is what we will be buying!!! |
Question: | Is this a wide blade grass? how does it look compared to kbg |
Answer: | This is a mix of Tall fescue and KBG (about 30-40% of the seed is a form of KBG called hybrid KBG i.e kBG crossed with Texas blue grass. The kbg blades on here are a medium width blade (essentially looks like normal kbg) . The tall fescue varieties in here are also medium bladed - will blend really well with the kbg. The caveat is though, like any tall fescue, if the turf stand is thin, the tall fescue blades will widen significantly to fill the space. Once the space thickens, the tall fescue blades width will come back down to normal. The trick is to to keep your stand thick via good cultural practices and this will be a good looking turf. What's nice about the kbg in here (the cultivar is called Thermal blue) , is that its aggressive and will rapidly fill in any voids to keep the stand thick. Thermal Blue is known for having very good heat and drought tolerance, it will be able to hold up to the same conditions as tall fescue. It's only draw back is that it's not quite as dark as some of the more elite kbgs and has a bit of a dull look. The tall fescue counters it very nicely and as a mix, it's a very attractive and hardy stand overall. |

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the advantage of Scotts exclusive grass seed coating?
A: Scotts WaterSmart PLUS Coating Technology absorbs water, feeds and protects your newly planted grass seed.
It absorbs twice as much water, and holds it twice as long, as uncoated seed to help prevent the seed from drying out–even if you miss a day of watering.
It feeds with essential nutrients that jumpstart growth, resulting in taller, thicker, greener grass.
It protects with a fungicide to help keep seedlings safe from harmful diseases that can attack newly planted areas.
Q: How long does it take for my newly planted grass to begin growing?
A: Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Heat-Tolerant Blue Mix for Tall Fescue Lawns will begin to grow in 6-14 days, but can take 30-60 days to become established depending on seasonal conditions. Make sure you continue to water as directed.
Q: How much do I need to water my new grass?
A: Watering is crucial for seeding success. Water daily or as needed to keep the soil surface moist until the seedlings reach at least 2 inches tall.
Q: When is the best time to plant Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Heat-Tolerant Blue Mix for Tall Fescue Lawns?
A: Cool-season grasses grow best when temperatures are between 60-80°F. Early fall is the best time to seed because of its shorter days, cooler nights and heavier dews. Your most successful seeding time is right around Labor Day. Seeding 2 weeks before or after that easy-to-remember holiday gives your new seedlings time to build strong roots before the winter. Spring is also a great time to plant cool-season grasses because of its moderate temperatures and heavier rainfall.
Q: How soon can I mow after planting new grass?
A: You can mow the seedlings when they reach 3 inches in height.
Q: When can I use weed killers and/or weed preventers on my new grass?
A: If you want to prevent weeds from invading while growing new grass, we recommend using Scotts Turf Builder Starter Food for New Grass + Weed Preventer. Never apply weed preventers to your lawn before planting grass seed unless they have been designed to be used when seeding.
All weed control products are different, but in general, it is recommended to wait until the new grass has been mowed at least 4 times before using a crabgrass preventer or other weed control product (unless the product is designed to be used when seeding). Always refer to the product label for specific information related to weed control products you are using.
Q: What types of grass seed are contained in Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Heat-Tolerant Blue Mix for Tall Fescue Lawns?
A: The Heat-Tolerant Blue Mix for Tall Fescue Lawns contains specially selected seed varieties.
Kentucky Bluegrass: Kentucky bluegrass provides a deep green color, medium texture, and aggressively spreading roots, giving you a thick, lush lawn. It performs well in high traffic, moderate shade and sunny areas.
Tall Fescue: Tall fescue is a wide-blade grass that grows in clumps. It was chosen for this mix because it thrives in high traffic areas and has low water requirements. Tall fescue has deep roots and grows in both areas of sun and shade.

Question: | What Grass it is |
Answer: | Never said might to check website |
Question: | Is this perennial |
Answer: | none of the above |
Question: | does this seed grow in sun |
Answer: | That depends on your water quality. |
Question: | What is in the mix? Specifically what and in what percentages. I wonder why this information isn't given |
Answer: | These do not filter as well as expected. Have used throughout the summer here in Phoenix, AZ (since June 10th, 2020) for my misting system. Use 1-2 times a week (mostly just once a week). Water is still "hard" and leaves white spots/drips on furniture/tables/chairs/etc. I will try another inline filter next year. |

This tall Pampas Grass is a wonderful addition to any landscape. This mix has seed for both white and pink plumes which makes a wonderful contrast of color! Cortaderia selloana is known for its silky, feathery plumes, and it certainly makes a stately presence as it reaches up to 80 inches tall and 48 inches wide. The plumes will bloom in the summer and last until fall. Many people choose to cut the plumes and dry them for indoor arrangements. Start the Pampas Grass seed indoors in early spring. The seed is extremely small, so mixing it with some sand will help to distribute the seed. Press the seed firmly into soil but do not cover it. Keep it consistently moist and at temperatures around 70F. Grow Pampas Grass in sandy, well-draining soil.

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this grow in the inland northwest |
Answer: | Hi, thanks for your inquiring with us. TDS is not a professional way to test the water quality, TDS means total dissolved solids, for example if you put a very little salt(NaCl) into the water and test the TDS, and you will find the result is dramatically high. Same thing, if your water is full of minerals, the TDS is very high too. The MV99 RV water filter doesn’t remove any of the minerals from water, it only stops heavy metals such as Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, and it removes greatly the chlorine from water, and the carbon is bacteria static. TDS meter testing method is widely used in reverse osmosis system, if a RO membrane doesn’t have a good performance, the TDS is relatively higher. And if TDS is getting much higher, means it’s time to change the RO membrane. So please do not use TDS to test any water except Reverse Osmosis System, because the result is meaningless. Best Regards, Frizzlife Customer Service Team |
Question: | When should I plant these in Ohio |
Answer: | Hi, thanks for inquiring with us! The filtration capacity for Chlorine is 5000G, and filtration life for LEAD is 1000G, so the filter life can be 6 month to 2 years depend on your daily usage and feed water quality. but we won’t suggest you do the cartridge change very long. As you know the filtration performance is dropping gradually when time goes by, so the longer time you use, the less good water you get. The best time is 1 year or less, the filter cartridge maintenance is much cheaper than the other brands, so it will still save you a lot of money even you change often. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us. |
Question: | are white and pink seed mixed |
Answer: | Hi, thanks for inquiring with us. The filter system come with a 59 inches hose. |
Question: | how long from the time the seeds sprout will I be able to enjoy the blooms |

It will grow in most soils with hardly any work. Low to no maintenance. You can shear ornamental grasses each winter so that new growth comes out clean in Spring. You can do this every other year or less often if you like. However, you don't need to do any of that if you don't want to. Question: | Can I use it up north |
Answer: | Bermuda grass needs full sun and wont really take off growing rhizomes until temps reach 80+ for a week or more. Also, night time temps should stay fairly warm. If you live in an area where this is not the case purchase fescue. I live in central NC and it grows well but just an hour or so west from here it is too cool to be a good performer. |
Question: | How many square feet will this cover |
Answer: | A five LB bag will cover 5,000 square feet -- so they say. But, it depends on how you spread it. DO NOT attempt to spread it if your SOIL TEMPERATURE is less than 70 degrees. Get a soil temp gauge. And even then, you still have to water it with a light spray every hour. I tried it at 64 degrees, and it just didn't do ANYTHING until it got up to 70 degrees. Good luck with that. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do these seeds need to be covered with soil in order to germinate? Thanks |
Answer: | It is better to be covered with soil |
Question: | Have shady yard in ne ga mountains town of sautee. Will this grass work |
Answer: | In central Wisconsin we planted this in a very shady area where we had mostly moss growing because the grass just could not grow there. It has done very well and filled in everywhere except an area of about a five foot radius directly beneath a large sugar maple tree. The patch there is probably due also to the nutrients and water being consumed by the tree. We were prepared for failure with this but were pleasantly surprised by how well it filled in. We have very extreme temperatures and this has not been a problem. It is also an attractive grass (blade thickness) and germinated well, grew quickly with adequate watering. Took a second summer to fill in to a dense cover after planting in late summer. |
Question: | What is the main difference between this mix vs the "dense shade mix for tall fescue lawns" (model 18341). i'm confused |
Answer: | I think I may have made a mistake and used this. I have cool season grass but I don’t think it is tall fescue. I have more bluegrass than anything. |
Question: | How does it look the second year |
Answer: | Dead, but.... I live in central Florida and this grass came up great and then died during the summer heat. I planted it again in November, again it came up very well, and it looks pretty good now. I'm hoping it will live through March when I sell my house. I know it will not survive the summer heat here in Florida. It is not a southern grass. I have no complaints about the seed. It's just not suited for the deep south. |

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the advantage of Scotts exclusive grass seed coating?
A: Scotts WaterSmart PLUS Coating Technology absorbs water, feeds and protects your newly planted grass seed.
It absorbs twice as much water, and holds it twice as long, as uncoated seed to help prevent the seed from drying out – even if you miss a day of watering.
It feeds with essential nutrients that jumpstart growth, resulting in taller, thicker, greener grass.
It protects with a fungicide to help keep seedlings safe from harmful diseases that can attack newly planted areas.
Q: How long does it take for my newly planted grass to begin growing?
A: Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Dense Shade Mix will begin to grow in 6-14 days, but can take 30-60 days to become established depending on seasonal conditions. Make sure you continue to water as directed.
Q: How much do I need to water my new grass?
A: Watering is crucial for seeding success. Water daily or as needed to keep the soil surface moist until the seedlings reach at least 2 inches tall.
Q: When is the best time to plant Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Dense Shade Mix?
Q: What types of grass seed are contained in Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Dense Shade Mix?
A: The Dense Shade Mix contains specially selected seed varieties.
Kentucky Bluegrass: Kentucky bluegrass provides a deep green color, medium texture and aggressively spreading roots, giving you a thick, lush lawn.
Fine Fescue: Fine fescue is included in this mix for many reasons. It grows densely, germinates quickly and has a soft texture. It also does well in tough conditions including shady areas, cold climates and high elevations.
