Answer:	No, I have small hands and am 70 years old. I don't have a lot of strength left in my hands, but I was able to cut right through a pot full of Cannas stalks this fall when I brought the plant in for the winter. I love that it allows me to do things that I would not have the strength to do. It is easier for me to use than a pair of pruners to cut through heavier plant stalks. I don't find it heavy at all.

Answer:	I’ve worked as metal worker for 40 some years, and as an owner of this tool I’d say you have a manufacturing defect. Look at where the break is and look to see if the break looks uniform or if there is even a pinhole size defect in part. It will not look like the rest of break.

Question:	My garden has heavy clay soil that gets hard when it's dry. I need to dig 10 years of lily bulbs out of this soil. Is this knife suitable
Answer:	My wife uses hers for a number of things, and the lady this one was bought for uses hers to tend the high school green house, her home green house, and the family garden. Clay being what it is, it is hard to get it off the shovel when it's wet and impossible dig when it dries out, it may not be quite the tool for digging bulbs out of the ground unless you get it in that in-between stage. I remember working around a lot ditch diggers trenching for water and sewer mains, and listened to them gripe about the problem with digging in clay. Their solution was to use a backhoe. But then I also remember them shaking the bucket a lot in an effort to get wet clay of the digging tines. Will it work? Maybe if you catch it when there a bit of moisture in the dirt. Around here, we don't really have soil: it's a little dirt mixed with a lot of rocks. I do know that this tool is great for gardening around here and in prepared soil, but I don't know that anything works well in clay. Maybe it's the timing, not too dry not too wet that helps. All this being said, it is a great tool, sturdy and easy to use. You can sharpen it, too, but clay is the creation of the devil. Good luck.
