Answer: | Take a reading while they are dry (that's your 0% reading), then take a sample of your soil and put it in a pot, insert the sensor and then water the pot until it can't hold any more water, then take another reading that's 100% saturated. If you want you can put the sensor near a plant and see what level it reads when the plant looks stressed from to little water and make sure you keep it wetter than that. Note: unless you are measuring pots, the moisture level near the surface is about useless for most plants unless they have very shallow roots.. for plants with deeper roots you probably want to waterproof the top portion of the sensor and bury it about 18" down. |

Auto/Manual Mode
Auto On/Off:In the default auto mode, the humidity sensor switch can automatically detects the humidity and auto turns on/off the bathroom fans.
Manual On/Off: Press M button, you can turn on the fan (default run time is 1 min). Press M button again, the fan can be turned off.
You can setting for how long the fan runs in auto/manual mode: 1 min-60 min.
LCD Screen
The screen uses LCD screen, displays real-time humidity value. It is easy for you to view and manage the humidity level of the bathroom.
Digital Sensors
The humidity sensor switch uses a microprocessor combined with the advanced digital sensing technology, to detect the humidity level in the bathroom and automatically turn on the exhaust fan for ventilation, keep your bathroom dry and clean.
Lock Button
In normal state, you need to simultaneously hold press both M button and Up/Down button for 3 seconds, the button will be lock; press both M button and Up/Down button again for 3 seconds, the button will be unlock.

Answer: | If you don't need anything more complicated than "on when falls below x, off when above", I don't think you would even need an Arduino. You could hook DO to a relay which could power some circuitry to alternate the solenoid irrigation valve directly in hardware. However you could get more detailed information and finer control with a microcontroller or PC with GPIO like a raspberry pi. |
