Answer:	I'm not sure what you received because mine are like most every other gardening hand tool I have. There's a black plastic part that pivots into a notch at the top of the handle by your thumb. It pivots away from the housing to allow the blades to open and into the housing to lock it. If yours isn;t like that, post a picture of both sides.

Answer:	For trimming yes they're amazing. But if your trying to cut a 2-3inch stock then I would suggest a stronger pair

Answer:	About 2 1/8 inches with the shears closed. When open the tips are 1 1/4 inch apart and 1 11/16 inch from inside where the blades cross to to the tip of each blade. Tip of blades are about 1/32" and where they cross they are 3/8" wide. I like these even better than the Fiscars.

Answer:	It gives u a curve so u can trim the flowers better I think because the flowers I trim are curved. I use the straight to clip leaves off in the flower but I think it’s just a preference hope this helps. 🤘🏼

Answer:	These pruning scissors can be used by almost anyone the tension on the spring is fairly weak, my 3 year old can open/close them easily. Answer:	NO, not in plants, but YES, ABSOLUTELY in cups/containers wherever you notice flies. Citronella scent attracts them and then drowns them. Found this out by accident and so glad I did! Works great for this.
