Answer: It can be made to work. Look inside the plastic (round coupling) on the Craftsman attachment. If you compare it to a B&D attachment, you will notice two horizontal tabs on each side - these prevent the Craftsman unit from slipping all the way onto the B&D base. I used an Xacto blade and carefully shaved the plastic down (on the inside of the cylinder) to make the sides flush; once this was done it fit the B&D Matrix unit and operated as it should. Be extra careful when doing this - mostly you have to take care not to cut yourself! I think there may be two series of B&D units; one may accept these tabs, the other will require this alteration to work.
