Every exterior hive part that may encounter rain or snow has been built with Fir wood and has been coated in 100% natural beeswax to help weather the elements. We’ve thoughtfully chosen to use Fir wood over the traditional Pine because Fir has a tighter knit grain-flow within the wood than Pine does. This makes our exterior parts far more durable and less likely to shrink, expand, warp, or twist from the rain than Pine would. Once we’ve cut the wood, we dip each part into a pool of natural beeswax. We allow the beeswax to be soaked into the hive parts. This not only protects the wood, but is also what gives our hives their natural golden honey lustrous allure. The delicate details of our durable dovetails were designed to hold together for years to come and create a joint that will stay perfectly square. After months of testing, we decided to have our frames come from the forests of New Zealand Pine. We’ve chosen this wood because it handles the meticulous cuts that are necessary for the grooves in our frames better than Fir handled it. This hive kit comes with two different types of CellTech foundations that have both been dipped in 100% beeswax to encourage your bees to quickly accept their new home and make an even layer of comb. The first type of foundation is a black food grade foundation made for the deep brood frames. The second type is a natural honey colored foundation made for the medium super frames. This kit also includes a Telescoping Top Cover that has been capped with galvanized steel to resist rust. The solid bottom board will reroute the wind chill and help keep your bees well insulated during cooler months. The Inner Cover has been and has an multipurpose oval opening cut out of the middle. Answer:	All 8 frames fit 8 frames and all 10 frames fit 10 frames There is a uniform size they all follow
Question:	Do you sell the 8 frame waxed deep boxes individually
Answer:	Sorry, We do not sell the 8 frame box separately at the moment.
Question:	Can these be painted if I want, even though it says they don’t have to be
Answer:	They have a really nice thick coat of wax, so they don't need to be painted. If you wanted to you would have to scrape the wax off, to help the paint adhere, which may damage the product. Best to leave it unpainted.
Question:	Can this be used with mason jars to collect the honey
Answer:	If you are referring to the hive where the honey is collected by opening a spigot to drain into a mason jar, then the answer is No. This is a traditionally designed hive where you need to remove the frames and collect the honey through a centrifuge.

Answer:	I was disappointed. It comes from China
Question:	Is it possible to receive a direct quote to buy in bulk for you
Answer:	Bulk is great if it saves money and time
Question:	does this come with everything you need, minus the bees
Answer:	It comes with a complete hive. You would need protective gear, tools (smoker, hive tool, etc), pest management stuff, a feeder and feed in addition to the bees.
Question:	Assembly instructions. Box didn’t come with assembly instructions. Where can I get a copy
Answer:	The dovetail will all interlock so take 2 sides and a front (or back), making sure handles are all with curved side down, push the interlocking pieces together with one side and end piece, then the other. Repeat the same with the opposing end piece and then use nails to secure every other peg or so, to keep together. Then, for frames, take long widest piece, fit the shorter side pieces over each end, fit a screen panel in the groove and then take slender long piece and clamp down on opposite end of side pieces until you create each framed screen. Nail with smaller nails on ends to keep secured. Once box is together and frames are ready you can see the track you drop the wider piece of frame into, much like a hanging file folder, and you're good to go.

Question:	does this have pre drilled holes for assembly
Answer:	It does not. It comes with nails for securing the hive sides and the inner frames. When I assembled, I drilled holes just to insure I didn't split any of the wood. Didn't add much time to the assembly either.

Question:	The kit comes with an oval plastic item that seems to fit on the oval hole of the inner cover. How do we assemble and use
Answer:	This our third kit and have not had an oval piece yet. If it fits the oval hole it's surplus.

Answer:	They come unassembled bit yes they have the logo. They are wax coated not stained. By far the best looking and quality boxes that i have bought.

4 Tips To Maximize Your Honey Production

• 1. Be prepared.

• It takes 40 days from when an egg is laid for that bee to emerge from her cell, serve in her housekeeping role and finally be old enough to fly out and forage for nectar. Just because you have lots of bees does not mean you have lots of foragers. To gather nectar you need to have a full squadron of foraging age bees PRIOR to the nectar flow. Therefore, beekeepers could produce more honey if they simply counted 40 days backward from when the nectar flow starts, and begin to prepare ahead of time for that flow.

• 2. You must also make sure your bees are healthy.

• They need nutrition. They need to be fattened up so they can remain strong and fight off various diseases. Mite control is essential in keeping healthy bees. The healthier the hive, the better the honey production.

• 3. Having a good queen is important as well.

• It is optimal to replace your queen every couple of years. You certainly don't have to, and often the hive will replace a faltering queen. However, for maximum honey production, you should replace your queen in September. Then, by the time you start stimulating the hive in February with sugar water and pollen patties, this new, young queen can really begin laying. You must see your honey production season as starting in September!

• 4. Finally, you need lots of supers!

• Research has shown that bees with plenty of supers on the hive at one time do better than supering a hive as needed. I always have at least 3 medium supers on all my hives prior to the nectar flow. If some of those supers have been saved from the previous year and have drawn comb, then you're that much closer to an excellent honey producing year.

Answer:	Frames?are the standard size as most hives. Get the 10 frame kit. Its more common and easier to get accessories for. Not sure if this seller makes a 10 frame but the quality of this kit was good for the relative cost. Just wouldnt recommend the 8 frame kit.
Question:	How thick is the wood on the exterior boards for freeze protecting
Answer:	It appears about 1/2 inch.
Question:	How many bees does this hold
Answer:	I started my hive just over a year ago and the bottom box of this hive was enough space to house a nuke hive and its expansion for a few months. I bought a second 8 frame box later in the summer and added it. This summer my hive swarmed because it was overcrowded. I cannot tell you how many bees that it took for my hive to be overcrowded, but I can tell you that 2 x 8 framed boxes was probably ok to house a years worth of hive growth. However, each queen’s production rate varies, so you’ll need to monitor. The top box of this hive is for honey production. It comes with a queen excluder, so that the queen can’t lay eggs in the honey comb. My advice to you would be to find yourself a mentor to give you advice and run to your assistance when things go awry. I was lucky enough to find someone to help at a party, but I’m sure you can look online and find someone local. There are also great books about bee keeping available. You’ll need to study a bit to know when and what to feed them, how to insulate the hive in winter if necessary etc. I’m pretty hands off with my hive and it seems to do pretty well with minimal interference from me, but I definitely benefitted from have the advice of my mentor. Answer:	Yes. There is a screened bottom with a landing platform that goes under the bottom brood box...the screened bottom causes the bottom box to be raised slightly to give bees in and out access. This hive also comes with an entrance reducer to limit the amount of access...helps with defense of the hive and other things.
