Uni Mechanical Pencil Kurutoga Pipe Slide Model 0.5mm, Black Body (M54521P.24)

Based on 2 reviews Check latest price

Product description

The Kurutoga has a core rotation mechanism that continually rotates the pencil lead as you write. A spring-loaded clutch twists the lead incrementally every time you lift the pencil from the paper. This allows a uniform wearing of the lead so that it always remains pointed. This is great for students! It gives you an amazingly thin line. In effect, you use only 50% of the lead area that you were previously using with your old mechanical pencil. In addition, this new Kurutoga is equipped with a pipe slide system. The lead is difficult to break as you write, due to the innovative mechanism. When the core is reduced, the pipe gets shorter at the same time. The guide pipe protects the entire length of the lead. Because there's no lead breakage, your papers remain clean without smudges from broken lead dust.

  • Mechanical pencil
  • Kurutoga Series
  • Lead rotation mechanism
  • Core diameter is 0.5mm
  • The core is difficult to break for pipe slide system

User questions & answers

Question: Is it good for drawing
Answer: It is pretty good for quick sketches.
Question: can you refill this pencil with any brand .5mm lead
Answer: Yes, any .5 mm lead will work just fine. There is a special "Kuru Toga" lead, but it's not necessary for the proper operation of the mechanism.
Question: Is the pencil available in
Answer: Yes, Kurutoga is available in 0.7 mm, but it is a different model of Uni. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PDTPQWK/
Question: This pencil has the retractable tip
Answer: Yes it has the retractable tip. The entire silver metal tip will retract into the black plastic part of the pencil. When you push the top of the pencil it releases the mechanism in the pencil. While holding the top of the pencil down just take another finger (or thumb) and gently push the lead. The lead will go into the silver metal part. As you continue to gently push, the silver metal tip slides right into the black part. Just for the record, the only difference between the pencil you asked about and my pencil is the color. You are asking about the 'black' one (M54521P.24) and my 'blue' pencil's model number is (M54521P.33). From what I can tell, the only difference is the color. So yes it does retract. The first Uni pencil I bought was Uni-ball Kuru Toga Mechanical Pencil, 0.5 HB #2, 1 count. The model number for this one is 1751934. This pencil is black. Under 'Color': (it says) 0.5mm Starter Set It came in a little cardboard package which included the pencil, a package of 12 - #2 lead refills and a couple extra erasers. This pencil has the rotating lead mechanism that keeps the pencil sharpened and helps prevent breakage. I was real hesitant about buying it because I prefer the heavier metal mechanical pencils. When looking at this one, it seemed to be mostly plastic. I love a good mechanical pencil. I love to write and I love to draw! I can't stand a cheap mechanical pencil. It is like this...if it feels good in my hand, I feel I can write better/draw better. Maybe it is in my head, but I have to have a good pencil. I ordered a few pencils around the time I got this one. The other ones were the heavier metal ones I like so well. As it turned out, I used this one way more than I used the other more expensive ones. Don't get me wrong...I sure do like the other ones, but there is just something about this Uni pencil I just LOVE!!! So, after having this one for awhile, I decided to order the other one (the one you are asking about). They are two different pencils and I LOVE them both! One difference is, like I said, the pencil you asked about (M54521P.24) is retractable and this one I am telling you about now (the first one I bought...model number 1751934) is not as retractable. The lead of course is retractable. Like the one you asked about, you push the top down and you can push the lead inside the metal silver tip. But that is as far as it goes. The silver tip does NOT retract into the pencil. I love both of these pencils. Not knowing exactly what you are looking for in a pencil, I would say, what the heck...try both of them!!!!! They are different from each other and I use both of them regularly. Just my opinion though. Good luck with your decision. The other pencil I really like that I bought on Amazon is the Pentel 120 A3 DX 0.5mm - A315. This one again is mostly plastic with a metal tip. With this one, the lead will retract, but the silver metal part does not retract. The one I have is purple and it has a black rubber grippy thingy where you hold on the the pencil. I like the eraser better on the Pentel, although I usually use one of those stick erasers. Well, there you go. I hope this helps. I know you asked a 'yes' or 'no' question and I wrote you a book. LOL If I gave you too much information, please accept my apology. I hope I didn't get too excited when writing and this makes some sort of sense. LOL I just love these pencils and since I didn't know if you were looking for one that retracts or not, I wanted to tell you about the other one I had in case you liked that one better. Good luck and God bless you! ------------------- P.S. Just so there is no confusion, the answer to your question is a very simple 'yes'. :) :) :) :) :)

User questions & answers

Question: Do you need to buy a special kind of lead for it
Answer: Any 0.5mm lead will work, but the specific Kurotoga lead is softer on the outside and is purportedly more effective with the mechanism. For very dark writing, I prefer Neox lead but it can smudge/smear a little. My second favorite is Ain Stein lead, which almost never smudges and lasts a little longer (not quite as soft as Neox).
Question: How durable is this? I am a graduate student in EE and math and break so many of the best mechanical pencils from staples and other office stores
Answer: I actually bought this mp to add to my mechanical pencil collection. I now have about eight mps, all different. Therefore, I could not provide any info regarding its durability. I can say that this is a beautiful, finely crafted instrument. It may be the best in terms of appearance. I really don't think you would go wrong if you selected this one. Best of luck!!
Question: is the body and cap a metal material
Answer: No the body and eraser cap are plastic material. However the grip, the end cap, and the lead sleeve seem to be metal.
Question: Does the tip retract? I'm worried about putting it in my pocket
Answer: It does not retract. I've got three of these for each jacket I wear so I don't worry about forgetting to take a pencil. So far no problems with the tip...

Question: Mechanical pencil (m510171p

Mitsubishi Uni Alpha-Gel Shaker Mechanical Pencil 0.5mm Hard Grip, Black (M5618GG1P.24)

uni

Based on 468 reviews Check latest price

Product description

The squishy soft grip of the Alpha gels are so addictive that Uniball has been multiplying its line like bunnies. All other comfy grips seem like hard rubber compared to an Alpha gel. It is the same gel that is famous for keeping an egg from breaking even when dropped from a 5 ft. height. This pencil has a SHAKER option. You can either click or shake the pencil to extend the lead. Just change the setting by pushing the top cap all the way down to transform it into a shaker pencil. So now you can squish, shake and click your way through class and/or work.

  • Slightly stiffer grip.

User questions & answers

Question: Does the mechanism really work? or is it just a gimmick? i'm can't whether to get this or the pentel graphgear
Answer: Yes it does work. When I use this to write a letter, the thickness of the letters is consistent throughout. Other pencils leave obvious differences where I have rotated the pencil.
Question: how many refills come in the led refill pack
Answer: The description states 20
Question: Does the mechanism really work? or is it just a gimmick? i'm can't whether to get this or the pentel graphgear
Answer: With .5 lead and normal use, it's hardly noticeable to me in my work but YES it does work. Each time you lift the tip from the paper the lead rotates approx a 6th or an 8th of a turn. You can see this in the small window near the tip to verify its function (you may need to press the point several times to see the rotation mark come around). As I understand it, its function was geared toward writing Japanese characters where the point is lifted more often keeping line width consistent without rotating the pencil. The function doesn't rotate as much for English cursive writing where the point keeps contact on paper longer. It is, after all a Japanese pencil. The Uni lead is High Quality for sure! I use Uni's softer 2B for darker lines which I share with my Pentel Graphgear 1000. Both are excellent pencils! I have a preference for the Graphgear mainly because it is retractable which is a godsend when I move away from my desk!
Question: How do you add lead
Answer: Remove the cap at top, then remove (pull upward) eraser ... there is a internal body that you drop lead into.
