9 best rubber cement

Rubber cement is a type of adhesive that falls under the category of liquid white glues and is commonly used for various bonding purposes in office, school supplies, and other applications. Here's what you need to know about rubber cement:

  1. Composition: Rubber cement is typically composed of latex polymers (often natural rubber latex), solvents, and other additives. The latex provides the adhesive properties, while the solvents make the adhesive liquid and allow it to be spread easily.

  2. Application: Rubber cement is applied using a brush or an applicator that is typically included with the product. It is spread evenly on the surfaces that need to be bonded. The adhesive is applied to both surfaces, left to dry for a short period, and then the two surfaces are pressed together.

  3. Drying and Bonding: As the solvent in the rubber cement evaporates, the adhesive dries and forms a strong bond between the surfaces. This bonding process is often used for paper, cardboard, and lightweight materials.

  4. Repositioning: One of the advantages of rubber cement is that it allows for repositioning of the glued items before the adhesive fully dries. This makes it a preferred choice for tasks that require precise alignment, such as collages or mounting photos.

  5. Temporary Bonding: Rubber cement is known for creating a temporary bond. It can be peeled or rubbed off easily from surfaces, leaving little to no residue behind. This makes it suitable for projects where you may need to remove or replace items later.

  6. Uses: Common applications of rubber cement include paper crafting, scrapbooking, collage work, mounting photos, and adhering lightweight materials. It is also used in offices and schools for various paper-related tasks.

  7. Safety Precautions: Rubber cement contains solvents that can release fumes, so it should be used in a well-ventilated area. Additionally, it's important to avoid contact with the skin and eyes and to keep it away from open flames or sparks due to its flammable nature.

  8. Storage: Rubber cement should be stored with the cap tightly sealed to prevent the solvent from evaporating and the adhesive from drying out.

In summary, rubber cement is a versatile adhesive commonly used in arts and crafts, office work, and school projects. Its ability to provide a temporary bond and allow for repositioning makes it a popular choice for tasks that require precision and flexibility in bonding lightweight materials such as paper and cardboard.

I believe this rubber cement will hold perfectly fine against the candle glass when attaching the rhinestone but remember glass is smooth so their is barely any grip for most glue to hold. Fortunately this Elmer's Rubber Cement isn't your average DYI adhesive. Its super strong and will manage to get its own grip on glass. Hope this helps :)

Question: Can this glue be used to temporarily put patches on leather jacket and be taken off without damage to the leather

User questions & answers

Question: A liter is a big quantity to use up. What's the base of this? Do you have to use the branded thinner? How about turpentine
Answer: I use an acetone for clean up and for thinning if necessary.
Question: Would this glue Plexiglass to Rubber
Answer: barge is a contact cement. Stick it on each surface and let it dry about ten minutes, then stick the two pieces together. Wait overnight. Do it with two small pieces first. See what happens. I think any adhesive is going to rely on how much pressure you put on its performance down the road.
Question: Will this work for gluing leather to wood
Answer: Hmmm, haven't tried that application but would guesstimate it would as long as the wood to which the leather will be adhered is roughed up a bit with a file or some such.
Question: Will this be a good option for gluing a fabric/embroidered patch onto a leather shoe
Answer: Indeed it will. It's excellent for gluing the entire sole of the shoe back on if and when it delaminates. I get an extra 8 months out of running or athletic shoes using barge which is a contact cement. I like the applicator in the can. If the lid gets sticky clean it with actone. Apply to both surfaces and wait 20 mins. then stick it together. If I'm gluing soles back on, I use a clamp. It is great for regular leather as well. Be sparing on the patch with the amount you use.
