Answer:	From my experience, no. It's not plastic or that cheap replacement they found for the one used in the advertisements. This is buckwheat and is all natural. You'll put a pillow case over it anyway, so even if there is a light smell (which I haven't noticed, it will mask it anyway).

Answer:	I bought the small one and I found a pillow cover in the pillow cover section of wal mart. Where the water proof mattress covers are. Mine is animal print but are other choices ans best part, it zips.
