Make sure if you purchase though that you take out all the plugs inside & also the seal on the end of the mouth piece or you won't be able to pull through it at all. Inside the piece that goes inside the stem you draw from (mouth piece) there is a tiny little plug in that that I would recommend you pull out otherwise the cleaning is more frequent & pulling off of it is difficult.

Answer:	Yes, the clamp grounds the mat. I use an outside ground rod connected via one half inch braid ground strap to connect to the clamp. I would use a plastic cover on the rug to stand on. I'm an amateur radio operator, so I'm probably better position to use a grounding mat than most folks. Hope that helps.

Answer:	Cleaning anti-static mats should not be done with chemicals. They tend to remove the properties that make these mats conductive. Use water, or a very mild soap and water solution. Windex, alcohol and the like are very damaging to these types of mats. There are also special cleaners designed for these mats.

Answer:	There is no need for a grounded mat, if your tower pulls air from under the case, then a hard surface would be recommended. Not many do, but I do have one that has the power supply on the bottom and pulls air up from underneath the tower. I would consider a surge protector or UPS before a static mat under the tower.

Answer:	I would say that if it's just a few jobs of tin(pewter) soldering it shouldn't been a big deal as long as you're careful. The melted solder is not going to damage it but the hot iron can definitely damage the mat. If you're looking to save time or money buying this one it could be an option (Im assuming is a provisional solution or a 2/3 jobs solution) just make sure you don't put the hot iron on top of it directly. I've done soldering jobs without a mat at all (not recommending this, I just had too little time andno cchoice) and I was able to do them. If you're planning to work on soldering often then just make the investment and get a more adequate tool for this kind of jobs.

Answer:	It is not very thick. Maybe that is why is does not slide on the carpet. I have a desk on it and it is dimpled at each leg. Again, this may prevent the pad from sliding.

Answer:	OK, so it sounds like only one snap, too bad.Here's a thought, just for fun - grab your soldering iron and wire strippers and splice the ground cord and wrist strap cord together right by the snap. Just in case the 1-10M Ohm wrist strap resistor is inside the alligator clip connector, don't cut it off! It's important to have that resistor to avoid getting electrocuted or to avoid rapid discharges that can damage components. In that case use a banana jack with a short wire on it and splice that into the ground cord near the snap. Then plug the wrist strap connector into the banana jack.Pretty hard to beat $26 for a mat and wrist strap. And splicing is fun.

Answer:	The surface feels like a neoprene mouse pad but the surface is slick on top, you can feel where the discharge wires are at under the surface when you press down. It can be used as a mouse pad, but not recommended due to the mouse feeling like it is about to sink under your hands as you are moving it around. Best to put a mouse pad with a "hard back" on top if you are going to use it this way as it keeps the device wanting to sink down below. That is just from personal experience.

Question:	How to ground the anti-static work mat
Answer:	I'm unsure of the exact melting point of the mat but I would suggest either keeping it below 200 or so degrees farenheit, or at least avoid keeping heat above that temp on it for long periods of time. You can probably get away with it, but to be safe I'd suggest letting it cool off every so often, every couple minutes or so. I don't think heat should have any effect on the anti-static properties of it either, but this is all an educated guess as i've never used a heat gun on or near the mat myself.
