13 best caller id units
Caller ID units, also known as Caller ID devices or Caller ID displays, are electronic devices commonly used with landline telephones. They provide information about incoming telephone calls, allowing users to see the caller's phone number (and sometimes the caller's name) before answering the call. These devices are relevant to landline phones, telephone accessories, office electronics, and office products. Here's what you need to know about caller ID units:
Caller Information: Caller ID units are designed to display information about incoming calls. This typically includes the caller's phone number and, if available, their name.
Caller ID Services: To use Caller ID, you usually need to subscribe to a Caller ID service provided by your telephone service provider. This service transmits caller information to your Caller ID unit when a call is received.
Display: Caller ID units have a screen or display where the caller's information is shown. The size and type of display can vary, but it's typically digital.
Call History: Many Caller ID units can store a history of received calls, allowing users to review recent incoming calls, including the date and time of each call.
Call Blocking: Some advanced Caller ID units offer call blocking features, allowing users to block specific phone numbers or types of calls, such as telemarketers or spam calls.
Voicemail Integration: In some cases, Caller ID units can be integrated with a voicemail system, allowing users to listen to voicemail messages directly from the unit.
Multiple Line Support: Caller ID units may support multiple phone lines, making them suitable for businesses or homes with more than one phone line.
Backlit Displays: Many units come with backlit displays, making it easy to see caller information even in dimly lit areas.
Caller ID Subscription: It's important to note that Caller ID services often require a subscription fee, which may vary depending on your telephone service provider.
Compatibility: Caller ID units are generally compatible with standard landline telephones and may be used in both residential and office settings.
Privacy and Convenience: Caller ID units offer users the convenience of knowing who is calling before they pick up the phone, which can help them screen calls and prioritize which ones to answer.
In summary, Caller ID units are useful devices for landline phone users, providing valuable caller information and features such as call history and call blocking. They are commonly found in both residential and office environments and offer enhanced convenience and control over incoming calls.

User questions & answers
Question: | can the phone have six additional handsets plus the one on the base unit or only five |
Answer: | According to the manual (Page 4, Page 39) you can expand your phone system by registering optional handsets (6 max.) to a single base unit. |
Question: | can it do conference calling |
Answer: | YES |
Question: | does the reciever have a high volume |
Answer: | No, if your older with a slightly hearing impaired... the volume is very soft even at it's highest volume. If you need a slightly louder set, this one is NOT for you. This is only half of the volume of my older Panasonic KX-TGE433B . |
Question: | battery life on a call 1-2 hours ? before needing to put on charger |
Answer: | I purchased a new set of these phones to replace a worn out 10 year old Panasonic set. I did notice the batteries needed to be fully charged 3 or 4 times before reaching max talk time. After a week or so on my desk ( and FULLY charging the batteries every other day) the phones now hold a charge quite well. These phones also provide an audible prompt when the battery level is low. I feel the batteries need to be 'conditioned' with repeated LOW BATTERY and FULLY CHARGED cycles before holding the longer charges. After a month or so of daily use I'm well satisfied with this set. |

Troubleshooting ~ "won't charge".
Tip 1
Ensure that the cords (power and telephone line) are plugged into the channels on the bottom of the base/charger. If the cords are not properly installed, the base may not sit level. This can cause the phone not to make contact with the base and the handset will not charge.
Ensure that your cordless handset is cradled properly. When placing the handset in the charging base, confirm that the charge contacts on the handset and base are making a good connection. The CHARGE light on the telephone handset will be on when the handset is charging.
Tip 2
For mulit handset systems:
To determine if the handset or charger is defective, place the handset in another charger or base. If the charge light comes on, replace the defective charger. If the base is defective, replace the whole unit.
For single handset systems or when all HS's are affected follow the steps below:
If the handset is not responding normally, you may need to reset your telephone system. Complete the following steps to reset the telephone system: Step 1: Disconnect the power to the telephone base. Step 2: Disconnect the handset battery(s). Step 3:Wait a few minutes and then reconnect the power to the telephone base. Step 4: Reconnect the handset battery(s). Step 5: Wait about one minute for the handset to re-establish a link with the telephone base and then test the phone again.
NOTE: After resetting the telephone system, you will need to reset the clock:
Step 1 When the phone is not in use, press MENU/SELECT. Step 2 Press ▲DIR or ▼CID until you see >SET DATE/TIME. Step 3 Press MENU/SELECT. Use the dialing keys to set the month date and year. Step 4 Press MENU/SELECT. Use the dialing keys to set the hour and minute; then press ▲DIR or ▼CID to select AM or PM. Step 5 Press MENU/SELECT to confirm your settings. Press and hold OFF/CANCEL to return to the idle screen.
Tip 3
Dirty charge contacts on the telephone base and handset could prevent the batteries from charging. Clean the handset and base charge contacts using a pencil eraser or a cloth to eliminate deposit accumulation.
Tip 4
Confirm proper installation of the telephone base power supply and handset battery. You should only use the power supply provided with your telephone. Make sure the power supply is not connected to an electrical outlet that is controlled by a wall switch. Confirm that the electrical outlet that the telephone is plugged into is working.
Tip 5
Ensure that the battery cover is installed correctly. When correctly installed, the batttery cover should be flush with the handset. If there are any spaces or gaps around the battery cover, the unit may not charge properly.
Tip 6
If the battery is less than 1 year old and talk time is less than 3 hours, replace the battery. If the battery is more than 1 year old and there is an issue with the battery, customer may need to purchase a new battery.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can the landline phone be mounted to the wall and if so, how many inches does it stick out from the wall |
Answer: | We have not had an outage since I have owned this, but since it is a land-line phone I assume the phone will work on the old type phone lines, but maybe not the answering unit. (This is why some keep a landline phone for another kind of security.) I am definitely not a techie so double check this. |
Question: | Does the base unit have to be plugged in for caller id |
Answer: | The remote handset no but has speaker phone. The base has the plug in handset which can be removed so I am assuming a headset jack that can answer and hang up the phone may work |
Question: | Does this come with the charger adapter that plugs into an outlet |
Answer: | I don't see one on the base or hands-free sets. |
Question: | Corded base works during a power failure |
Answer: | I can confirm, except for the cordless handset, yes, it does! We don't have reliable power in the deep cold of winter or the hottest times in summer, which is why we always keep a landline. It won't work if your phones company is cable, however. Nor will you see the displays when the electric goes out but, this type of phone is essential for potential emergencies. |

Like your kitchen, den, bedroom or anywhere, you decide.
User questions & answers
Question: | Can I connect the Ooma to a tel wall jack and pick up the signal at a different tel jack where base phone is located, and eliminate the Linx box |
Answer: | Not sure what you mean by the Linx box. But you'll attach the Ooma box to your modem via ethernet. Use a phone cord to connect the Ooma box to any telephone jack in your house. Then, any jack in the house can have a phone or answering machine connected to it. Make sure your old phone line connection outside the house is disconnected. That's the way I use it and it works fine. |
Question: | How does this compare to OBi |
Answer: | I have used the OBI series with Google Voice for a number of years, and I purchased an Ooma for my mother. The details of the Ooma service and features is a little hazy since it's been a few years since I set her Ooma up. The OBI200 can be used with Google Voice to make incoming and outgoing calls for free and you can also use other VOIP service providers if you want to. All you can do with GV is make and receive calls. You can't call 911 from Google Voice. To get around this problem, I got a very inexpensive VOIP service with a limited number of minutes and I have my Obi set up to use that service for emergency calls. The Ooma is a separate phone service. You sign up with the Ooma service and you get a new phone number (or you can port an existing telephone number to the Ooma service for a fee, $20 I think, but it may be more). With the Oooma you pay the taxes and fees like you would a landline phone. This means that you can use the Ooma to make 911 calls. If you already have a Google Voice number, and you want to use Ooma, the Ooma service has a feature that will let you change the caller ID for your outgoing calls to match your Google Voice number, or any other number that you own. That way callers will only see your Google Voice number. You can set up your Ooma telephone number as a forwarding number in Google Voice, so that your Ooma will ring any time you get a call to your Google Voice number. |
Question: | Can i get calls from my cell number over ooma while im at home. Because of poor call quality at my house |
Answer: | What Matthew said, assuming you have call forwarding available on your cell, simply forward the calls to your Ooma number. Switching back and forth might be a pain. Maybe it's time to find a different cell provider that works better at your house(?) EDIT: With my cell provider it's as easy as dialing *72 followed by the ten digit phone (Ooma) number you want the calls to go to, three short tones means it's done, hang up. To stop forwarding simple dial (from the cell) *720, again, three rapid tones means it's undone. Works great. The hard part is remembering to switch, not the actual switching. Your provider's instructions may vary.... Oh, and thanks for bringing it up, I never considered it before but it may come in handy, sometimes my cell signal gets weak at home. ;) |
Question: | I don't have a landline now but do have internet service .will this work for me My cell phone reception sucks in the house and I'm looking for alter |
Answer: | It depends on what internet service you have. If it's cable and there is sufficient bandwidth (speed) then you should be all set. I have had no issues at all with streaming two devices and using the phone. Average downstream speed for me is 15-18 Mb/s and I am sure less would be fine. |

With the CI30 caller ID phone box from Bell South, you can add caller ID and call waiting functionality to your current, non-caller ID enabled telephone. This box allows you to easily see a list of the last 99 incoming calls, along with their name and the time they called. A new call indicator lets you know when new caller ID entries have been received, while a repeat call indicator lets you know when somebody has called multiple times. A display and dial feature also lets you easily call any displayed caller ID entry with the touch of a button.
The call waiting feature lets you place the current conversation on hold in order to answer a second incoming call. If you have subscribed to voicemail service, a new message indicator lets you know when you have messages waiting. If the incoming caller has caller ID block or is calling from an area without caller ID service, the CI30 displays 'Private' or 'Unavailable', respectively. You can mount the unit on a desk or wall, whichever is most convenient, and adjust the LCD contrast level to provide the best view. The CI30 also comes backed with a one-year limited warranty.

User questions & answers
Question: | Screen will not light up when phone rings |
Answer: | The screen does not light up when the phone rings. There is a red light that blinks while the phone rings. |
Question: | We recently had our phone system re-vamped and now all calls are voip. will this product view voip phone numbers |
Answer: | It depends on if your voip system uses a modem to connect to the phone company. If your actual phones are still using the the same jacks they were using before, it may work. If you now have new voip telephones, it probably will not work. To be sure, check with your voip equipment provider. |
Question: | is the back light bright |
Answer: | I don't have any problem with seeing the numbers, however, I now have a caller ID on my phone so seldom have to depend on the separate caller ID. You will need to have a lamp near by at night, but daytime you shouldn't have a problem reading it. |
Question: | do you have to have ID caller service for this ID caller |
Answer: | yes, you have to have the service for any id caller |

Answer: | Yes it does. It also comes with instructions on how to add it to an already existing Panasonic telephone system (other phones like it) |
Question: | Does this phone come with a charger base, as pictured |
Answer: | I use high capacity AAA Ni-MH rechargeable. Several companies market them. Replace both at the same time, and charge them in the phone. |
Question: | What battery need |
Answer: | Yes, I did just that. I had to put this sets' handsets through the de-registration process first, and then put each into the old base for half a minute. It was all EZ-PZ but I'm still at a limit of five handsets. |
