13 best 35mm slide converters
A 35mm slide converter is a device used to convert 35mm slides into digital images or files. These converters are commonly used for archiving and preserving old slides, as well as for sharing them digitally with friends and family. Here are some key points about 35mm slide converters:
Purpose: The primary purpose of a 35mm slide converter is to transform analog 35mm slides into digital format, typically JPEG or TIFF images. This process allows users to view, edit, store, and share the images on various electronic devices.
How It Works: A typical 35mm slide converter consists of a tray or slot where you place the 35mm slides. The device then uses a built-in scanner or camera to capture the image on the slide. The captured image is then converted into a digital file and saved to a memory card, computer, or other storage medium.
Resolution: The image quality of a converted slide depends on the resolution of the converter. Higher resolution converters produce sharper and more detailed digital images. Common resolutions for 35mm slide converters range from 5 megapixels to 20 megapixels or more.
Color Correction: Many slide converters come with features for color correction and enhancement. They can automatically adjust color balance, exposure, and sharpness to improve the quality of the digitized images.
Compatibility: It's important to ensure that the 35mm slide converter you choose is compatible with your computer or storage device. Some converters connect directly to a computer via USB, while others have memory card slots or built-in storage.
Software: Most slide converters come with software that allows users to preview, edit, and organize the digitized images. This software may also include features for removing dust and scratches from the slides.
Output Formats: Converting slides to digital format typically results in standard image file formats like JPEG or TIFF. These formats are widely supported and can be easily viewed and shared on various devices and platforms.
Price Range: The cost of a 35mm slide converter can vary widely depending on its features and capabilities. Basic models may be relatively affordable, while higher-end models with advanced features can be more expensive.
Accessories: Some slide converters come with additional accessories, such as slide holders, cleaning brushes, and memory cards. These accessories can be useful for handling and organizing your slides.
Storage and Organization: After digitizing your slides, it's important to have a system in place for organizing and storing the digital files. This can include creating folders, adding metadata, and backing up your files to prevent data loss.
In summary, 35mm slide converters are valuable tools for preserving and digitizing old 35mm slides. They offer a convenient way to bring analog memories into the digital age, making it easier to share and enjoy them with others.

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the tv jack for? the manual said it is a phone jack, but none of tv has a phone plug |
Answer: | While it's true that camera "film" can't be exposed to light, DEVELOPED film becomes a "negative", which CAN be exposed to light. So far, I've converted about 200 35 mm slides to digital photos without any problems. I haven't tried using negatives yet, but I'm sure the result will be the same. It's a fantastic little machine. |
Question: | Can this scan 120 film |
Answer: | With a Mac, you have to save images to an SD card or the device's built-in memory (only 128 MB). Then you choose USB Upload and you can transfer the images to your computer. |
Question: | Are the Reels for 8mm film scanning included or are they an extra cost? None are shown in the advertisement |
Answer: | I'm not sure about that as I have only produced a digital image from a negative. |
Question: | Does this connect to the computer to save the photos onto hard drive or do you need the SD card |
Answer: | Not being an expert on the computer, I am not sure what "ntsc" means, but I do NOT use an sd card with my Kodak Scanner. I have the scanner plugged directly into my laptop, and the digital images go straight to the E drive, from where I easily put them into folders under My Pictures. So far I have done about 1,100 slides, and I am so very happy with the quality of the digital images. I also have had fun editing for brightness and color. Many of my digital images are better than the original slides! I am extremely happy with this product. |

User questions & answers
Question: | It used to be that after photos are taken and still in the camera when roll is removed it cannot be exposed to light. How does this work |
Answer: | U can look up YouTube how to pull out w the screw, inside is 35mm and it does work w this scanner |
Question: | Does this unit save directly to a computer or do you have to save to SD Card and then to the computer |
Answer: | Yes. The scanner records the images (JPG) on removable media like a camera or directly to the computer via USB cable (included). You can transfer via USB or by removing the media and transferring it that way |
Question: | Does the type of media inserted determine the number of megapixels an image is converted to |
Answer: | There is no tray, you push the 1st slide in. It is not in the center for the picture to show completely so you use the 2nd slide to push the 1st slide in position and after digitizing the 1st slide you continue to push the 2nd slide all the way in. The 1st slide is not yet all the way out so you push the 3rd slide in a little way so you can get the 1st slide out. Continue with all your slides. Once you do about 10-15 slides it become very routine and works well. |
Question: | The ntsc out is really useless, only way to get digital images is to write to the sd card, correct |
Answer: | I don’t know about the dpi but it is 14.0 megapixels (4320 X 3252). Much better than the old slides we have scanned in! |

User questions & answers
Question: | will it scan 120 negatives |
Answer: | This product will not scan 120 or 220 format film negatives. It will scan 110 format negatives. The answer by Jerry D is incorrect. It is possible to feed 120 or 220 negatives directly through the slot (without a carrier), but the image sensor will not capture the entire image and parts of the negative will be out of focus. This appears to be true of the "Wolverine F2D" as well. |
Question: | Is there any way to change the jpg compression or use another format like tiff |
Answer: | I can't say with 100% certainty, but I don't think so. I couldn't find a way to do it--but I'm not overly tech-y either. |
Question: | will this convert Super-8 movies with out taking a "snap shot" each frame in the film strip |
Answer: | Don, NO. The Wolverine is a PICTURE scanner and not a Movie transfer device. To transfer movies you should send the reel out to one of the professional transfer houses. |
Question: | What is the DPI |
Answer: | Here is all the information regarding scanning :Scan Sensor: Not specified by manufacturerOptical Resolution: 20 MP; 5472 x 3648 pixelsColor Depth: 24-bits per channelFocus System 5.12 mm f/3.48 lensExposure :Auto and manualColor Balance :Auto and manual |

User questions & answers
Question: | Which button do I push to actually save the image |
Answer: | See page 5 of the user manual which you should have received with your scanner. Assuming you have successfully scanned an image and are viewing it on the screen, you should see three icons on the lower left and lower right. Select the Save icon (same as what you would see in other computer programs) by using the Left/Right keys, and press the OK button. This will save the image. One you have scanned an image, you can also select the other icons: Delete or Go to Main Menu. Delete is useful if you've accidentally scanned the same image twice, or determine that the photo quality is poor and you don't want to save it. The Main Menu can be useful if you scan your first image, but immediately see that your settings are wrong (e.g. the device defaulted to negatives, but I'm scanning slides). |
Question: | Satexas: what cable and what computer allowed you to transfer scanned slides without sd card and reader? technique? i have a macbook air |
Answer: | I was only able to use the sd card when I scanned the pictures on the slide scanner. I have an sd card slot in my laptop which allowed me to save them to my computer. |
Question: | Does this work with 16mm reels |
Answer: | If you expect this to digitize a film reel, then no. It digitizes ONE FRAME AT A TIME. That is, one frame, one file. If you have 20 years you could digitize a movie. |
Question: | My 2" slides are in 3 mm thick plastic mounts. Will these go through the slide adapter of the DigitNow film scanner |
Answer: | I'm not 100% sure but I believe they will. I have only used it with paper mounts but they appear to be around 3mm thick and they work fine. |
Question: | So load a slide tray and the software will cut them out and save each one in a seperate file? Can you load on several photos and auto cut into files |
Answer: | You can, yes. The software (Silverlight) lets you do batch scanning where you set the multiple scan areas and then hit batch and it scans them in order. You must set the scan area for the tray as well (Not automatic), but it works without the trays as well. |
Question: | how does this compare to the Plustek for 35mm scans |
Answer: | I agree with B. Menke on this. While I do not have a Plustek, I do use a primefilm xas (and before a primefilm xa) for 35mm film scanning, A dedicated 35mm film scanner of decent quality will give better scans than a flatbed can. However, the Epson V850 is more versatile and I use it for medium and large format film. The Epson is the way to go if you don't exclusively shoot 35mm film and cannot afford to get two scanners. |
Question: | How do you use the fluid mount tray?. Does the film get wet?. Can you use it without the fluid ?. Thank you |
Answer: | I would Google/YouTube "Wet Scanning" to get more details. But, to answer your question, yes the film will get wet. You put special fluid in the tray and then put your negative in it. At a basic level, wet scanning will help at filling in scratches, reduce/eliminate light scattering and refraction, hold the image flat to the glass, and a variety of other benefits that can help improve the image quality for scanning. It adds quite a few steps (and time) to your workflow process. Unless you were working on a special project (books, etc.), going to make large prints, I wouldn't wet scan. |
Question: | Anybody own the V600 and this one and can offer an opinion on the difference? I can read the specs, interested in your direct experience |
Answer: | Improved film holders. Also get a 2nd set to assist faster loading if working on larger projects. Upgraded software. Easier to use and faster scans, in my opinion, though may just be I am loading new set as soon as scan is completing. 600 is still a good machine but newer is usually improved and better. Hardware is not much different. Both out of same factory in Indonesia |

User questions & answers
Question: | Thoes it scan advantix film? And which one |
Answer: | No familiar with that product. To my knowledge, it only scans negatives from common films (135, 127, 126, 110) and 8MM movie film. |
Question: | my sd card doesnt fit Why |
Answer: | There are 3 physical sizes of SD. Standard, mini, micro. Wolverine takes a standard version. I think they make adapters for smaller SD cards to fit into a Standard. Also, I did notice that the Standard SD cards goes into the Wolverine ‘upside down’. |
Question: | can the slide tray be repoaced |
Answer: | The converter comes with a slide tray as well as a tray that accommodates various sizes of negatives. All are free standing and easily slide into the device. I would presume that the manufacturer can provide replacements for any component. Suggest you contact Wolverine directly via their website. |
Question: | Are the images cropped as stated in a couple of reviews |
Answer: | somewhat |

User questions & answers
Question: | Did you try scanning negatives? I am wondering if it scans the full negative area? Or does it crop (cut off) part of the negative image |
Answer: | I don't use negative film, but from the look of the negative carrier, it will not do any cropping. The scanner scans the full 35mm area of a slide, so it should do the same for a negative. |
Question: | Is it compatible with Windows |
Answer: | i TRIED BUT IT WOULD NOT WORK WITH WINDOWS 10 |
Question: | Does I do black and white negatives |
Answer: | Yup. You select the type of film you're going to scan on the unit. It does slides, black & white negatives, and color negatives. It comes with two slide in holders, one for slides and the other for negative strips. I scanned both color slides and color negatives and it worked great. |
Question: | Is 35mm the only negative size supported |
Answer: | The two film/slide holders provided with the scanner are for 35 mm. |

User questions & answers
Question: | what is the size of the jpeg that this machine scans |
Answer: | The output size will vary with the input media, but a 35mm slide produces a 5472 x 3648 pixel image. The resultant JPEGs are often too contrasty and/or need further editing. It's still a good device for the price. |
Question: | What is the DPI of the scans |
Answer: | While dpi can mean dots per inch on your printer, for a scanner it means how many dots per inch is the scanner scanning the image, i.e. the resolution of the image. 300 dpi is acceptable for general scanning but at least 600 dpi is necessary to convey all the information (details) in the image. |
Question: | Does it convert 120mm film |
Answer: | If you are referring to medium format film, the wolverine does not. |
Question: | Will this work for my mother' sold Kodak slides? I have a lot that I would like to put on disks for my family |
Answer: | This product works well with Kodak slides. I have copied almost a thousand of them. Occasionally there is a really old one that is hard to slide into place with another slide. It works to remove the piece that holds the slide and move it into place manually. I have been very happy with the unit. |
