13 best 35mm slide adapters

A 35mm slide adapter is a device used in conjunction with a scanner to digitize 35mm slides. These adapters are designed to hold individual slides in a way that allows them to be scanned and converted into digital image files. They are commonly used in the realm of photography and archiving to preserve and share old slides.

Key points about 35mm slide adapters:

  1. Purpose: The primary purpose of a 35mm slide adapter is to facilitate the process of converting analog 35mm slides into digital image files.

  2. Compatibility: These adapters are typically designed to work with specific models or brands of scanners. They are often manufactured by the same companies that produce the scanners, ensuring a seamless fit and compatibility.

  3. Design: A slide adapter is designed to securely hold a single 35mm slide in a position that is optimal for scanning. It usually includes a frame or holder to keep the slide in place during the scanning process.

  4. Material: They are commonly made from plastic or metal, with a smooth surface to avoid damaging the slide.

  5. Usage: To use a 35mm slide adapter, you typically insert it into the scanner's designated slot or tray. Then, carefully place the 35mm slide into the adapter's holder. Once properly positioned, initiate the scanning process on the connected computer.

  6. Resolution: The quality of the scanned image depends not only on the scanner's capabilities but also on the quality and condition of the slide itself. Old, damaged, or dirty slides may result in lower-quality digital images.

  7. Cleaning and Maintenance: It's important to keep both the slide adapter and the slides clean and free from dust or debris. This can significantly improve the quality of the scanned images.

  8. Storage: Some adapters may come with protective cases or covers for both the adapter and the scanned slides. Proper storage helps prevent damage and degradation over time.

  9. Post-Processing: Once the slides are scanned, users can use photo editing software to enhance or correct the images as needed.

  10. Archival and Sharing: Once digitized, the images can be stored on a computer or in cloud storage, making them easier to access, share, and preserve for the future.

Remember, if you're considering purchasing a 35mm slide adapter, it's important to ensure it is compatible with your specific scanner model to guarantee proper functionality.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the tv jack for? the manual said it is a phone jack, but none of tv has a phone plug
Answer: While it's true that camera "film" can't be exposed to light, DEVELOPED film becomes a "negative", which CAN be exposed to light. So far, I've converted about 200 35 mm slides to digital photos without any problems. I haven't tried using negatives yet, but I'm sure the result will be the same. It's a fantastic little machine.
Question: Can this scan 120 film
Answer: With a Mac, you have to save images to an SD card or the device's built-in memory (only 128 MB). Then you choose USB Upload and you can transfer the images to your computer.
Question: Are the Reels for 8mm film scanning included or are they an extra cost? None are shown in the advertisement
Answer: I'm not sure about that as I have only produced a digital image from a negative.
Question: Does this connect to the computer to save the photos onto hard drive or do you need the SD card
Answer: Not being an expert on the computer, I am not sure what "ntsc" means, but I do NOT use an sd card with my Kodak Scanner. I have the scanner plugged directly into my laptop, and the digital images go straight to the E drive, from where I easily put them into folders under My Pictures. So far I have done about 1,100 slides, and I am so very happy with the quality of the digital images. I also have had fun editing for brightness and color. Many of my digital images are better than the original slides! I am extremely happy with this product.

User questions & answers

Question: It used to be that after photos are taken and still in the camera when roll is removed it cannot be exposed to light. How does this work
Answer: U can look up YouTube how to pull out w the screw, inside is 35mm and it does work w this scanner
Question: Does this unit save directly to a computer or do you have to save to SD Card and then to the computer
Answer: Yes. The scanner records the images (JPG) on removable media like a camera or directly to the computer via USB cable (included). You can transfer via USB or by removing the media and transferring it that way
Question: Does the type of media inserted determine the number of megapixels an image is converted to
Answer: There is no tray, you push the 1st slide in. It is not in the center for the picture to show completely so you use the 2nd slide to push the 1st slide in position and after digitizing the 1st slide you continue to push the 2nd slide all the way in. The 1st slide is not yet all the way out so you push the 3rd slide in a little way so you can get the 1st slide out. Continue with all your slides. Once you do about 10-15 slides it become very routine and works well.
Question: The ntsc out is really useless, only way to get digital images is to write to the sd card, correct
Answer: I don’t know about the dpi but it is 14.0 megapixels (4320 X 3252). Much better than the old slides we have scanned in!

35 mm Film Adapter Compatible with Nikon ES-1 Slide Adapter

Based on 5 reviews Check latest price

Product description

This is a 35 mm negative/film adapter for use with the Nikon ES-1 Slide Adapter. This was custom made for use with 35 mm film negatives. Unfortunately Nikon never made a 35 mm negative adapter for their Slide Duplicator.

Quality flatbed film scanners can cost upwards of $500 and dedicated film scanners can cost several thousand dollars. The Nikon ES-1 Slide Duplicator provides consumers who own a digital SLR camera the ability to digitize 35 mm slides and now 35 mm negatives for a fraction of the cost. While the Nikon ES-1 was not intended for use with negatives, it will work quite well for that purpose if one has the proper adapter as well as the necessary software like Photoshop to "reverse" negative images, mirror them, and otherwise adjust them as necessary. It is imperative that your digital SLR camera has the option for manual focus for the Nikon ES-1 Slide Duplicator (and subsequently this 35 mm adapter) to work properly. Please make sure that you have the proper knowledge and software to utilize this adapter as the seller does not have the necessary time available to provide one-on-one technical support.

Specifications for the 35 mm adapter:

Overall: 80 x 49 mm

Scanning window: 35 x 25 mm (enough to digitize one 35 mm frame at a time using the ES-1 Slide Duplicator)

Assembled thickness: 5 mm

Material: Plastic

Special Feature: Recessed channel exact width of 35 mm film so that negative is held in place. Channel is open on both ends so film can be easily slid through without taking the holder apart.

If you purchase multiple holders from us, we will adjust shipping charges after sale so that your shipping costs are combined.

  • solid plastic
  • reduces scratches
  • Made in USA

User questions & answers

Question: Do you need to remove the holder from the nikon es-1 to move the film? a similar product i have is too tight to just slide the film through
Answer: The layout is for horizontal photos.
Question: I'm just getting an es-1 to do some quick & fast proofing. your neg holder looks large compared to a slide mount. tell me it fits properly
Answer: My experience is that you cannot add or remove pages.

User questions & answers

Question: Can i purchase the slide viewer on the $45 film slide scanner eparately? i have lost mine
Answer: Not sure. I went through the manual and found no reference to 127. I only used it for 35mm slide format which also included 126 film cut into a 35mm slide. I will try to convert some photos when I can get some. Could not have been more pleased with ease of operation or results.
Question: Is the software 64-bit? macs with catalina os will not run 32-bit programs. thanks
Answer: I don’t know I returned it as I wasn’t happy with it. Couldn’t get it to work properly.
Question: will this accept 2 5/8 size slides
Answer: Which/what mode?
Question: can I scan aps (Advantix) film cannisters
Answer: This might indicate a need to format your sd card. This can be done easily in a digital camera that accepts one. You need to find that function in the camera's menu. It can also be done in a computer. Google the procedure for your particular operating system.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this the same product as the scanner included in all the bundles sold here some of which are 50% more expensive
Answer: These were for an old Yakima acoustic guitar. Might check out the resonator sites and see what they have to say.
Question: Does the 35 mm film have to be developed to use this device
Answer: G string is wound. I have the medium.
Question: It keeps saying it's full. i've got it hooked up via hdmi to laptop and an sd card <32gb. it will read but won't save. suggestions
Answer: Not sure but I've had 2 strings explode at the bridge. Love the tone but have never broke string until I bought these
Question: What kind of light source does this use? Does it generate heat
Answer: Yes it sure does, and they are the best, most extraordinary strings I've ever used. So bright, crisp, and full of punch. The bass strings are just as loud and punchy as the trebles. I hope this helps you hunter. God bless.

User questions & answers

Question: Will this work with a Nikon D
Answer: It will work with any camera body as long as you use a proper lens. The 40mm and 60mm micro Nikons are both ideal.
Question: Can this be adapted to fit, and work with a Canon 80D
Answer: The body doesn't care, the adapter mounts to the lens. I don't know the Canon 80D, but you need to have 52mm threads on the lens to screw in the slide copier adapter. I use a step down ring going from my 62mm macro lens ring size to the slide copier 52mm size threads. You must be able to focus to a couple of inches. I am shooting with a Sony ar7iii and a weird Chinese Laowa 60mm macro lens. The lens is sharp!
Question: This will work out of the box, alone, for the 55 micro nikkor (52mm front) and FF D
Answer: I use this slide duplicator on a Panasonic G5 with an adaptor for the 55mm nikor. It works great. I have no experience with a FF D700
Question: Can this work on a canon eos rebel xs??? Other websites said it can work with other brands and not just Nikon
Answer: It has standard threads and you need to learn the exact threads that this has and the exact threads that ANY OTHER camera has and if they are not the same. Someone usually makes a tiny adapter ring and you screw it all together and are good to go. I used it on my Canon camera. Make sure that the camera will focus at the distance that the final combination will create. I think I had to use an extender tube and could not quite fill the image with the slide, but it was OK for my needs. A really good scanner is better, but they cost more. Also, some companies will scan your slides for a reasonable price, but be careful of their reputation and do you have to pay for their goofs. Enjoy.

User questions & answers

Question: Is the ac adapter dual voltage ac 100-250v compatible, or is it just an ac 120v adapter
Answer: The ac adapter is ac 100-240v, 50/60hz compatible, according to the tiny print on the adapter end that plugs into wall current.
Question: does anyone know how to program the scanner to automatically stop scanning after 50 slides (the size of the tray
Answer: I use this fine product in my job. The answer to your question is in the software. Open the program. Go to the upper left, hit "scan", go to "multi-scan". In the lower part of the box, type in the "range". For Example 1-50 for the entire tray.
Question: Does this work using operating system macos high sierra
Answer: I use the latest Apple Mac OS---you should be fine
Question: Can I use this to scan 35mm negatives. If the answer is yes, how automated (if at all) is the process
Answer: Yes, but you have to cut and mount the negative in 35mm slide holders first. Then it is just as automated as slides. If you main purpose is slides, but you have an occasional negative, this will work. If your main purpose is negatives, chose a film scanner instead of this device.
