If a paper is even slightly glossy (which many standard letters are), you will need to turn off the flash on your smartphone or it will create a white spot in the middle of the page and you won't be able to read the text. When you have lights above, you will almost always have a shadow from your phone on the document you are trying to scan - which will make your image difficult to read (especially if you try to convert it to black and white). For glossy documents, keep the flash off, and position the scanner bin so that a light source can illuminate the paper without large shadows. The Scanner Bin will block the light from the other directions, including overhead.

Answer:	Kind of both. The voices and sounds are heard while sweeping the frequencies, but they are an accumulation of voices and sounds from the time that it is stopped on different frequencies. Answer:	John, Install the drivers first, so that when you power up the scanner it will be recognized. I think you will be happy with this scanner. It isn't the fastest around, but the results are worth the wait. I think some of my old slides (1960's and 1970's) look better than they did originally.

Answer:	I also found the SilverFast software to be horrible. I HIGHLY recommend VueScan by Hamrick Software (http://www.hamrick.com). It can utilize ALL the features of the OpticFilm 82001 (including infrared) and is much more intuitive. Question:	Does my book have to be completly flat for it to scan? Some of my books are old and cannot be flattened like on a flatbed scanner for example
Answer:	No - in fact, one of its big features is the detection of the pages’ curvature and compensation for that, giving you a result that electronically removes the curvature without stressing fragile source books. Of course, the flatter the source the better the result, but this device puts much less stress on your books than does a flatbed scanner.

Answer:	My experience is only business. It works well for letters, Cad Drawings up to 11X17.. I have used it with heavy paper, but not card stock. The color graphics is OK, but may not be so great for photos.

Answer:	Page 309 of the instructions covers the procedure for VoIP usage. If you plug in to the modem and get a dial tone, all is good. If not, call your provider for further instructions. I don't use landline, so I don't fax.
