13 best laminatings
Laminating is a process commonly used in offices and various industries to protect documents and materials by encasing them in a layer of plastic or another protective material. This process involves using a laminator, which applies heat and pressure to seal a protective covering around the item being laminated. Here is some information related to laminating supplies, presentation products, office electronics, and office products:
Laminating Supplies: Laminating supplies include laminating pouches and laminating rolls. Laminating pouches are pre-cut sheets with a layer of adhesive that, when heated, seals around the document.Laminating rolls are continuous rolls of laminating film that can be cut to the desired length.
Presentation Products: Laminating plays a crucial role in creating professional and durable presentation materials. Laminated documents are protected from wear, tear, and moisture. Common presentation products that involve laminating include posters, ID badges, menus, maps, and charts.
Office Electronics: Laminating machines or laminators are essential office electronics used for the laminating process. These machines come in various sizes, from small pouch laminators suitable for ID badges to large-format laminators for posters and banners. Some laminators use hot rollers, while others use cold lamination methods.
Office Products: Laminating is used to enhance the durability and appearance of various office products. For example, laminated business cards, signs, and instruction manuals are more resistant to wear and tear, making them ideal for office use. Laminated materials are also easier to clean.
Benefits of Laminating: Laminating offers several advantages, such as:
- Protection: Lamination protects documents from moisture, stains, and physical damage.
- Durability: Laminated materials are long-lasting and can withstand frequent handling.
- Professional Appearance: Laminated items look more professional and are easy to read.
- Versatility: Laminators can handle various materials, including paper, cardstock, and even fabric.
Laminating Process: The laminating process typically involves the following steps:
- Place the document or material inside a laminating pouch or between laminating rolls.
- Insert the pouch or roll into the laminating machine.
- The machine applies heat and pressure to seal the pouch or roll around the document, creating a protective layer.
In conclusion, laminating is a valuable process in offices and various industries, helping to protect and enhance the appearance of documents and materials. It involves the use of laminating supplies, presentation products, office electronics, and office products to achieve professional results.

User questions & answers
Question: | does this come with a carrier |
Answer: | The unit does not include a carrier, but none is needed. There are guide tabs in the rear of the unit to help place the lamination pouch properly. |
Question: | Can you place a lot of smaller tags in the sheet and cut around each one |
Answer: | Yes, that would work fine. Just make sure there's enough space between the tags for the laminating film to seal properly. I used the scotch laminating film pouches and they are good quality. |
Question: | do I have to use the whole sheet? like can I do a 4x6 and still have the rest left or is it to be wasted |
Answer: | If u send a 4 x 6 thru in a larger pouch like an 8.5 x 11 then yes the rest of it is wasted as it laminates the entire sheet. Best is to purchase the size sheets you think you will use. I have a couple sizes and try to waste as little as possible. It does work well though. |
Question: | Are these sheets compatible with any machine or just the scotch one |
Answer: | I found this description online regarding these sheets. Hope this helps! "Scotch thermal laminating pouches are compatible with all popular laminating machine models, including laminators from Akiles, Sircle, Tamerica, Banner, GBC, Monroe, Techko, Majestik, Fellowes, Scotch and many other brands of hot laminating machines. These laminating sheets are made of high quality, high clarity laminating film and premium adhesive resins." |

User questions & answers
Question: | how waterproof does it make the paper? would it survive a trip through the washing machine |
Answer: | Well, I use these pouches to laminate work stations for my kindergarteners. They write on the pieces with vis-a-vis markers and then wash and dry them off with paper towels after they're finished. The edges stay sealed and I've never had a problem with water getting inside. I would think something would survive a cycle in the washing machine because these pouches are really thick - much more so than regular laminating film. Good Luck! |
Question: | Would someone please explain what "pouch" means? I have never used a laminator but would like to. Do I need a separate pouch for each item |
Answer: | The pouch is basically the clear sheets you out the paper you want to laminate in. You have to buy them separately on some occasions. They are very common though anf sold in all staples and office supply stores like that. But yea it's the "pouch" that makes the laminated shiny surface happen! |
Question: | will it laminate 5 ml pouches |
Answer: | Yes!!! It has a specific setting for 3 ml and 5 ml. The 5 ml setting will actually laminate up to 7ml :) |
Question: | What does 2-roller system mean? Please provide practical explanation |
Answer: | Hi, all thermal laminators utilize heated rollers to both melt the laminating adhesive and move the laminating pouch through the machine. A "two roller system" means that the laminator has two heated rollers. A "4 roller system" has 2 heated rollers, and 2 nonheated rollers that improve the finishing quality (by pushing out additional air within the pouch). A "2 roller system" is ideal for most small offices, classrooms, and homes. Hope this helps! |

User questions & answers
Question: | can i use this laminating in a cooler machine |
Answer: | No. These sheets are designed for heat to bond them together. Without the heat, bonding will not take place. |
Question: | Can a paper with a staple be laminated |
Answer: | Is a paper pouch included to hold the item to be laminated as it moves through the machine? |
Question: | Does a 200 pack laminate 100 sheets of paper or |
Answer: | 200! 2 pack of 100 |
Question: | can you put 2 smaller things in a pouch and cut in half after laminating? there will be empty border around both items |
Answer: | Yeah! I do it all the time. I'm a teacher, I put a million little things in and cut when I'm done! I was just doing it last night with like 10/12 little pieces of paper per sleeve. The more border the better obviously, but I trim mine pretty close sometimes. If you cut too close they'll wear or peel with repeated use or handling of the item. Good luck! |

User questions & answers
Question: | How would these work to seal handmade watercolor bookmarks? is the plastic too thick |
Answer: | I made bookmarks with scrapbook paper and they turned out beautifully. |
Question: | Will these work for making bookmarks out of dried flowers |
Answer: | I’ve only used this product with thinner card stock for laminating cards. As a check you might take clear tape and see how it adheres to your dried flower book marks. If it doesn’t stay together across the whole book mark, a heat lamination may work better ( just a suggestion) Good luck. |
Question: | Are these sheets waterproof |
Answer: | They are plastic, so yes. But you would have to overlap the edges and make sure it seals all the way around for it to be completely waterproof. These are not pouches, they are single sheets. |
Question: | Is this safe to use on photos? I want to use it in my sons baby book to protect the pictures |
Answer: | I just tried it on one of my photos and it looked awful but it did peel off cleanly... didn't damage the picture. I use it on copy paper and cardstock. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I make alot of outdoor signs. Can these endure the weather, like rain |
Answer: | I haven't tried them outside but they seem to be very sturdy, almost like a 10 mil. I think they might hold up to the weather, but I imagine the outside would scuff eventually. |
Question: | Are these glossy or matt finish? I dont see where it says |
Answer: | I would call them more glossy than matte. But really they are just clear after they are laminated. |
Question: | Can I double up the 5 mil pouches - put one inside the other with a piece of cardstock inside the inner pouch and laminate it to create a 10 mil sheet |
Answer: | I have doubled the laminate...meaning laminate once then put it in another laminate sheet & run it through the laminator. It helps that everything stays together |
Question: | Is the 5 or 3 mil pocket thickness better for full 8 1/2 x 11 sheet size in regards to flatness, and general finish |
Answer: | The 5ml is thicker. I use both for 8 1/2x11. Both are flat but 5 won't bend unless you really want it to. 3ml lays flat for sheets but you can bend it. I hope that helps. I use mine in a classroom and they hold up well but use 5ml if I'm concerned about kids bending them. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Are these UV resistant |
Answer: | Hi. the package that it comes in doesn't mention anything about UV. But I've had them in a window display where the sun shines on it all day long for over two years and i have Not noticed any negative effects whatsoever they look and feel like they did when I first put them in the window display two years ago. So to answer your question I would say yes they are very Ultraviolet resistant . Hope this was helpful. |
Question: | How thick is the lamination? (i.e. 3mil, 9.5mil, etc |
Answer: | Hi K; The transparent film with the adhesive is .003" (3 mil) thick. The transparent cover sheet is .006" (6 mil) thick. These measurements are for LS84G Scotch Laminating Sheets. I would suggest you be careful when adding something to be laminated, the adhesive is non-forgiving. You might make the adhesive and cover sheet larger than needed and cut to size after mating. Yes, it does use more plastic than needed but you won't have to do it over and also prevent loss of whatever you are trying to protect. I tried many samples prior to doing the final assembly which was quite helpful. Hope this helps.Charlie |
Question: | Can you Cut these sheets |
Answer: | Should you cut the laminating sheet to the size needed, BEFORe or AFTER your card is inserted? I am making a small book, 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches, for my grandson. There will be about 8 pages. Thank you for any suggestions! |
Question: | What is the thickness of the laminate when sealed? why don't you put that on each package |
Answer: | This product is 9.5 mils thick. Thanks for asking! |
- Easy lamination for everyone with no machine
- Reliable product with premium materials in the safe process
- Classy & neat sheen and perfection.
- Documents and pictures can be safe in the firm adhesion
- Applicable for everything such as documents, cards, pictures, photos, menus, bag tags, name tags, and maps

Question: | Can you laser print on this |
Answer: | I have never tried. But my guess is no. It very thin plastic. |
Question: | Would these work best for creating product label stickers |
Answer: | No |
Question: | What are the thickness of these |
Answer: | Thick and do not work well!!!! |
Question: | Can you use dry erase markers on them and have it wipe off |
Answer: | Yes. You can use dry erase markers on these sheets. Although, the Scotch brand from 3M might be better if you are doing to do that alot. The less expensive sheets like these may tend to stain over time and use. I haven't had these long enough to tell just yet. Scotch Brand are more expensive but I've used dry marker on them for some time with no sign of staining the plastic. Hope this helps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | can you get just the business card size |
Answer: | Yes, you can order just the business card size. They are less expensive through Amazon than one of the retail stores. I’ve ordered the 100 count box and use them for laminating paperstock business cards. |
Question: | When cutting does this peel |
Answer: | No it does not peel |
Question: | Can you write on the laminate with dry erase markers |
Answer: | Yes, I’ve discovered that the black (nonlabeled) expo markers from a dollar store work the best when you clean them off at the end of the day |
Question: | Are these 3mil or 5mil in thick |
Answer: | 3mil. laminating sheets are measured per side. So a 3mil laminating pouch will be 6mil plus the thickness of the item being laminated. 5 mil pouch will be 10 mil, 5 mils per side. |

Question: | Are these flexible or will they be stiff like normal laminate |
Answer: | While they are advertised as 3mil lamination pouches they're actually thinner (which I like). They're much more flexible than brand name 3mil pouches. I now only use Everest pouches because of their non-grainy ultra clear finish. |

Answer: | No, it’s standard thermal laminating sheet. You need leave 1/4’ around document. |
Question: | Do I need a laminating machine to use these? Can I use an iron |
Answer: | Yes, this product needs a laminating machine. It is a thermal laminating sheet. We also sell laminating pouches. It doesn't need laminating machine. You can't use an iron to laminate sheets. We strongly suggest you use a laminating machine. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this AmazonBasics laminator work with other brand laminating pouches? Has anyone tried this for example with the smaller Scotch brand pouches |
Answer: | Any "hot" laminating sheets are supposed to work. I use the "Universal" brand ones that I bought from Amazon and they work great. There are several sizes. The one I use most often is model 84642 which are business card size. |
Question: | Can you laminate numerous pages one right after another or do you need to wait? Need to laminate about 22 pages. Thanks |
Answer: | Short answer is yes, I have done 30 pages with no problem. I run a page and while its going I set the next one up. Might be a few seconds in between but thats about it, no waiting. |
Question: | Are the resulting laminated items stiff or really flexible? I usually laminate at Kinko's and the results are a harder laminate |
Answer: | With this machine, which uses either 3mil or 5 mil thick laminating sheets... your final product would be somewhat flexible. . . Kinkos probably uses 10 mil. thick laminate sheets, which would be more ridgid. |
Question: | I keep having problems with this not feeding the sheets through properly - they keep getting crinkled around the edges and folding in the machine |
Answer: | Also had this issue when not laminating something that filled the laminating sheet. Solved it by cutting a small square of paper into two triangles and inserting them into the first corners I was feeding into the machine. They started going through smoothly. |
