User questions & answers
Question: | Is the finish glossy or natural |
Answer: | I just looked and I would say semi-gloss. It has a shine to it, but I have to admit I do polish all my guitars. Hope that helps. Oh, btw, it plays and sounds wonderful, so for me, the finish isn't really an issue. The sound is. |
Question: | does the baritone uke come with a wide width nut |
Answer: | I have no way of measuring except against another tenor ukelele however smaller ukelele smaller nut. so not a good measure... I have fairly fat fingers and arthritis too and my Baritone has good room for me... maybe the company has those specs. I do love my Oscar Schmidt .... |
Question: | what strings are on this ukulele when shipped |
Answer: | Just standard nylon uke strings. It is a great sounding ukulele. |
Question: | Are the frets on this model sharp |
Answer: | No the frets aren't sharp, it's very nice, and the fretboard is nicely bound! It has good projection, and a great bell like tone. I personally like the gloss finish, beautiful instrument! I'm completely satisfied! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Anyone know what the width of the nut is? Thanks |
Answer: | I.5 inches. |
Question: | The picture does not show abalone binding. If it really has this, I want to order. Is it different from the picture: Thank you |
Answer: | The OU52 model does not have any binding. The OU53 has abalone binding. It is available in our Amazon Store. |
Question: | What kind of strings come with it |
Answer: | I'm pretty sure it comes with Aquila Ukulele Strings, Baritone Guitar Tuning, EBDG, BGT 21U set on them. I think this is the factory set they use but don't quote me on that. It played great right out of the box so I can't complain about these strings. I replaced them with a set of D'Addario EJ99B Pro-Arte Carbon Baritone Ukulele Strings mainly because I'm a D'Addario fan. The sound was better and it was easier to play but it was a slight change. The price has gone down since I bought it but I would gladly pay what I did a few years back if I ever need to replace it. I would spend a little extra money to take it in to get it set-up, I never did because I'm just using it to play around on. Just something fun for me to hang on the wall and take down from time to time to mess around on. Hope this helps, |
Question: | I got one of these and I love it, but it has a warped neck making it hard to play. Was this just a bad one, or is it a common problem with these |
Answer: | I wish I saw your post first, I actually got the same thing.. a warped neck. Amazon only offered me a refund if I returned it, not a new one to replace it. Contact the company and the Oscar Schmidt customer service rep said "we'll let our Amazon Rep keep an eye out for that problem"... and that's it. Really disappointing... I'm out $100.00 USD. - Tom |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this have a button thing to hook a shoulder strap to |
Answer: | No it doesn't. But you can have them installed at a music store. About $10-15 for two strap buttons. Or you can shop Amazon for strapping your uke button-free. One end hooks up to the sound hole, other end around you. Btw, OS OU28T is sooo cool for strumming. Best buy for the buck! Good luck! |
Question: | what is the width of the neck |
Answer: | Prior answers didn't answer this. The width of the neck (fingerboard) at the nut is about 1 3/4", which is 1/4" wider than most tenor ukuleles measured at the same place. Hope this helps. |
Question: | How long is it |
Answer: | I have not measured it to exact length, but it is tenor size and fits nicely in a tenor case. Compared to other Oscar Schmidt tenors, there is no difference except string number. |
Question: | What is the totsl length of the ou28t? Want to buy a kala uke crazy tenor case, but only specs i found said it was 37" long, has to be a typo |
Answer: | My measurement comes in at twenty seven and one quarter inches. |

User questions & answers
Question: | It is impossible to tell from the photos - does this ukulele have a high-gloss finish |
Answer: | Yes i would say that the finish is high gloss. Also, at least for the one we received, the finish is much darker than the pictures shows. Still attractive and very nice, but a much darker color. |
Question: | How are the strings? Should I replace them with betters |
Answer: | I purchased a OU2 concert model for my grandson several.months ago. It was equipped with GHS string...not the best but OK. For a.much better sound from this instrument put on aquila strings. You'll notice a big difference.. |
Question: | Is this a tenor or a soprano uke |
Answer: | It is a concert uke, in between tenor and soprano. |
Question: | Where is this uke made |
Answer: | Oscar Schmidt Ukes are made in Indonesia but set up here in the U.S. They are made there because of the access to many wood farms in that country. Oscar Schmidt and Washburn are owned by U.S. Music Corporation out of Mundelein, Il |

User questions & answers
Question: | will it fit ou55CE model |
Answer: | I bought mine for a baritone from Mainland. It's snug, but it fits fine. Great case. I have 3 Oscar Schmidt cases. They are a good value. |
Question: | So, an OU52E will fit in this case |
Answer: | Looking at the description and comparing it to the two baritones I have used it for, I would say yes. I used it for a bulky Kay, and a Riptide electric acoustic and they both fit nicely. |
Question: | Will this case fit ou |
Answer: | of course, the ou 53 is a oscar schmidt uke, so the schmidt case will fit the schmidt uke! i'd like to add, i prefer oscar schmidt cases to most others. |
Question: | What are the interior dimensions of this baritone case? I'm trying to find a case for the uke I built. Thanks |
Answer: | From looking at my case and checking with websites that sell this case interior dimensions are as follows: Length: 31.25" Lower Bout: 9.75" Upper Bout: 7.75" Depth: 7.75 inches Neck Rest: 2.75" from bottom of case to point where neck would rest on neck brace. |

User questions & answers
Question: | This is a tenor size? i think i already asked a hard case and where it can be purchased. tired today sorry if i already asked this question |
Answer: | This is tenor size..no case..I brought a used case for mine. Just google..I think mine was about $175.00 about 4years ago..Amazon? |
Question: | What accessories come with this instrument? also, how would you rate this as compared to tfw's banjolele? is the price difference worth it |
Answer: | The oub1 doesn't come with accessories but, is a great concert size uke. If the other uke is a soprano I wouldn't consider iit even with accessories unless, it's for a child. |
Question: | So I am gathering from the Q&A section here this is tenor length |
Answer: | No maybe inch longer than concert but couple inches short of tenor |
Question: | On a scale of 1-10, 1 being like a ukulele and 10 like a banjo, how does it sound |
Answer: | I would say an 8-9. It's not a perfect 10 only because it is a ukulele banjo, not a banjo. lol I love my Oscar Schmidt! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this a true left handed ukulele? Are the fret markers on the right side of the fingerboard |
Answer: | Yes. Plus, if you are playing it "lefty", not only can you see the fret markers, but the word "Aloha" on the headstock reads right side up. |
Question: | The back-side image shows the chrome tuners are sealed...so we can't see inside. My question is: are they geared tuners or friction-only |
Answer: | They are geared tuners. I am not a musician expert... However I bought this instrument so my answer is simply based on my observation. Hope this is helpful |
Question: | is the uk bigger than a tenor |
Answer: | Yes, and it is by far one of the best left handed ukues I bought. |
Question: | I just got this ukulele, and mine also has the "Aloha" upside down. Does ANYONE have it right-side up when strumming with left hand? Thanks |
Answer: | Yes, mine is left-handed and the Aloha is right side up when I play it. |

Question: | I still don´t know if this ukulele has a solid top. i got a yes and a no to this question. does anybody know for sure? thanks |
Answer: | It is solid. I know solid when I see solid. I have made a solid koa uke from scratch. No worries. Pull the trigger. Great solid uke. |
Question: | Anyone know the differences between this model (ou55ce) and the ou55ce-r-u |
Answer: | No difference. Some models in the future may have alternative fretboard material that may add to the product code, OU55CE |
Question: | Does this Baritone Ukulele have a solid top? Thanks |
Answer: | No. It is plywood. The unit is well constructed. Has good sound with baritone strings. I string mine with tenor strings. The sound is deeper. I do this as I want a consistency when playing in our Uke group plus it is easy to play. The looks are excellent. Had to replace the equalizer with a like unit. |
Question: | What replacement strings should I use? Bought Aquila AQ-89 Baritone Low D strings and the G broke while tuning! Do I need to buy High instead of Low |
Answer: | No...I use that string and they are fine for my technique. I think that you just got either a bad or very old string that just popped! The fact that it broke while you were tuning says that it was just bad luck with the string. |
