User questions & answers
Question: | is this ukulele bigger than most soprano ukuleles? it says it is 32 inches that seems big |
Answer: | This one has 17 frets so the neck is a tiny bit longer than some sopranos but it isn't much bigger. The body is a normal soprano size. I'm basing this on my other sopranos. Hope this is helpful to you. |
Question: | I got this today but it is easily out of tuned (every hour). Is this normal for a new instrument |
Answer: | Yes, this is normal. It takes time for new strings to stretch out. This happens any time you change strings and it's true for guitars, ukes, basses etc... If you are careful and don't just yank or rip at them, you can lightly pull each individual string up to help break it in quicker by laying the uke on your lap or on a table with the strings up and put your finder under he drying about half way between the top of the neck and the bottom and just pull up on the string and hold it for about 10-30 seconds. Don't pull pull until it feels like it will snap just tug a little depending on the which string. The thick strings you might be able to pull a half inch and the thinner strings maybe a quarter inch do this for each string a couple times. Re-tune all the strings and do this 3 or four times and you should notice it going out of fine less and less each time. After a few times just start playing it and you will notice that it stays in tune much better. After a few days if playing, the neck and strings should be fully broken in and you should be able to go anyway where between a few days and weeks without really needing to tune it again (more or less time depending on how often you play it and how hard you strum) |
Question: | im wanting to buy this for my husband who is left handed. has anyone had success with this particular ukulele switching strings |
Answer: | For the soprano, concert, tenor and even for many of the baritones it is not necessary for a left handed person to do any adjustments. This is what you do: 1. Buy ukulele. 2. Take strings off (most ukuleles that you purchase will be set up for the right handed person.) 3. Flip the ukulele around. 4. Put new strings on. |
Question: | was it made in china |
Answer: | According to Cordoba website they are made in China. I love my ukulele. It sounds great and looks good too! |

User questions & answers
Question: | what is the nut width |
Answer: | 1 3/8 inches, which is also 35mm. |
Question: | Is this a laminate |
Answer: | Hi, thanks for your question. The 25C has a solid Acacia top and laminate Acacia back and sides. |
Question: | Does this ukulele have an end pin for a strap |
Answer: | It does not come with a strap button; however I brought it into Guitar Center, and they drilled one in quickly for about $10. |
Question: | I just bought two uke’s - this soprano and a concert. Both claim to have Aquila strings but the soprano strings appear more opaque. Is this normal |
Answer: | Yes, it's normal. It could just be the run of material used had a different amount of dye in it, or it differs slightly between the sizes. I'd trust that they are indeed Aquila, this is a great Uke at a very fair price. |

Question: | Stupid and newbie question, how am I suppose to restring this ukulele? The saddle is not the typical saddle similar to classical guitars |
Answer: | Yes! it would be great for a 4 year old! Perfect size for smaller hands. |
Question: | how do you determine what size to buy |
Answer: | I doubt it would survive a drop onto rock. It's just thin plastic. |
Question: | Does it djent |
Answer: | It comes with a light, drawstring bag that can be carried like a backpack. The material is very thin, think those reusable grocery bags. It is fine for carting around, but I don't think it would provide much protection. |

OU5 Ukulele Features
|
Concert Ukeleles
There are four common types of ukes out there: soprano, concert, tenor, and baritone. The soprano was the original, followed up quickly with the concert size uke. The 15-inch scale length and slightly larger body size deliver a deeper tone and a bit more volume, while maintaining the sweetness and instantly recognizable ukulele sound.
The Oscar Shmidt OU5 Concert Ukulele
The OU5 concert ukulele features a select Hawaiian Koa top, back and sides, which look striking in the natural gloss finish. The abalone binding and rosette are the icing on the cake, for an instrument that's as beautiful to look at as it is to hear.
The OU5's Nyatoh neck features a 16-fret rosewood fretboard, and Grover chrome tuning machines ensure you stay in tune.
Oscar Schmidt instruments feature a lifetime warranty, and each ukulele is inspected and adjusted in the USA by a skilled technician--your assurance for smooth fret ends, precision low action and resonant sound quality.
About Oscar Schmidt Musical Instruments
The Oscar Schmidt Company was founded in 1871 and incorporated in 1911. By the early 1900s, the company had five factories in Europe and a factory on Ferry Street in Jersey City. They made all kinds of stringed instruments, guitars, banjos, mandolins, ukuleles, zithers, and Autoharps.
The company prospered through the early 1920s. Oscar Schmidt instruments were sold in many rural parts of the country where no music stores existed. Salesmen distributed the products far and wide, making them available in general, small town furniture and dry goods stores. Country guitar pickers and blues musicians living in areas of the South and in Appalachia, far from the city, frequently played Oscar Schmidt instruments because they were both inexpensive and available locally. But equally important, they were often chosen solely on merits of their superior tone and volume.
Today at Oscar Schmidt, premium woods, quality hardware and modest prices create an ideal instrument. Each is inspected and adjusted in the USA by a skilled technician, your assurance for smooth fret ends, precision low action and resonant sound quality. Unequalled standards in easy playing comfort and tone response creates the perfect value... Oscar Schmidt.
- It features select Hawaiian Koa body and top with gloss finish

User questions & answers
Question: | The description indicates that the ukulele has a lifetime warranty. Can this be confirmed |
Answer: | when I read the Oscar Schmidt site, it looks like 5 years is what they give. http://www.oscarschmidt.com/warranty/ the warranty covers craftsmanship, but not damage caused by the owner. its a Great Uke, good luck. I have had my ou5 for nearly 10 years with no issues at all! |
Question: | Should I get this or the Cordoba 20cm or the Kala ka sc |
Answer: | My friend has a Cordoba - it's a nice instrument, sure, but we both like my Oscar OU5 better. I own a Kala KA-T tenor, and would take my Oscar over that one. The tone is nice, and I'm forever commenting that 'Oscar just rings like a bell' - meaning, the sound is pure and clean and the sustain goes on. I have 8 ukuleles and Oscar holds its own against the Martin Tenor I have. Those two are my faves for sound and ease-of-play (the action is nice and low on both) I got my OU5 here on Amazon, and it came with a tuner, cloth, CD, etc...and a lovely hard-foam case that's really protective. I think I paid abou $180 for everything. I'd buy another Oscar in a heartbeat. |
Question: | Does it come packaged with Aquila strings |
Answer: | Yes. |
Question: | Does it have open or closed tuners |
Answer: | They are closed, Grover tuners. |

The Frets
The nickel silver frets are all properly seated and well finished. For anyone familiar with guitars and stringed instruments, fret ends can be a very troubling point of contact with inexpensive instruments. BUT, these frets have been manicured to a level that there is no sensation whatsoever.
Love at first strum!
This is a great fit for any beginner or casual players to relax, express your creativity and puts a smile on many faces. You really only need to learn 4 chords and you're set to play hundreds of different & perfect island-y sound for most Disney/children songs and pop songs. It's pretty cool!
Aquila Strings
Aquila strings - are industry standard and are highly rated and recommended by most.
These are the exact kind of strings a uke is supposed to have.
As with any string instrument, you'll need to tune the ukulele to the correct pitches: G, C, E, A.
Dancing to your Tune!
About tuning issue: It happens to any string instrument - It takes few days to stay tuned (due to new strings naturally stretching).
Once it's done stretching, it will achieve a optimal tuning stability.
The uke is dynamic, resonant. Single notes have great harmonic sound.

This Tattoo Concert Uke takes its design from traditional Hawaiian body ornamentation. The designs were monochromatic, tattooed in black against brown skin. The patterns and layout were strongly geometric and there were many shapes and symbols representing the natural island world: stones, waves, fish, sharks, turtles, rain, sun, and birds. This design is based on a Hawaiian turtle (honu), a symbol of longevity and endurance rendered in a Polynesian tattoo style. The fret markers are stylized sharks teeth. This concert uke boasts a clear, resonate sound both by virtue of its Concert body and Mahogany construction. Beautiful sound - tremendous value.

Question: | What color is it? The pics in the search show a brighter orangy-brown, but here it looks like a dark brown wood |
Answer: | It depends on the lighting of the room. If you put it in the sun it will shine with the brighter orangey-brown but in less focused lighting it looks like the dark brown wood. It is gorgeous. |
Question: | I had a beginners Ukulele, and the strings weren't nylon. Will I need to replace the strings with nylon once it ships? How was the quality of them |
Answer: | The stings on this Ukulele are Aquila strings and are very appraised by the ukulele community. You should not have to replace the strings. They will take about a week to stretch out until they stay in tune, but once they do they will last a pretty long time. The longer you have the strings on the better they will sound. You don't have to replace Uke strings until you started noticing marks rubbed in from the frets. Quality is great! |
Question: | Does this one have aquila strings |
Answer: | Yes, the Kala KA-S I bought did have Aquila strings. They stayed in tune and had a very sweet tone. Intonation was the biggest problem with this uke. But still, worth the money. |
