User questions & answers
Question: | Does this Mandolin come with a hard case |
Answer: | I don't know if it has a truss rod, but I can tell you I've owned this mandolin for about 6 months and it hardly ever goes out of tune and I play it a few times a week. When not in use I store it in a case with a Oasis mandolin humidifier, which is something I read about that was recommended by other mandolin players. Overall, I've been very happy with it. |
Question: | does this come with a case |
Answer: | Mohagany, the product description section has all the info actually |
Question: | The mandolin came with a piece of plastic/foam under the bridge, is it supposed to stay there or should I remove it |
Answer: | If you mean setup of the bridge and neck adjustments, No, it is not provided by the sellers or Ibanez. |
Question: | does it come set-up |
Answer: | It projects just fine. |

User questions & answers
Question: | what kind of a case fits this instrument |
Answer: | It came with a soft bag. As a warning to you, I took it to a guitar shop to have it set up. According to them, it was in storage long enough that it will always be a half step higher or lower than it is sopposed to be. ( I cant rememer why, I think it had something to do with neck being slightly warped?). The guitar store said it perfectly fine for a beginner but probably not good for an experienced musician. We didn't return it because my husband is starting at day 1 and wouldn't notice the difference |
Question: | Is this Japanese or Chinese |
Answer: | No case comes with the mandolin. It is shipped in a box, and while it is well-protected for shipping, does not include carrying case. |
Question: | Is this Acoustic /Electric or just Acoustic |
Answer: | How do I remove it? |
Question: | does this come with gig bag or case |
Answer: | The mandolin is ready to play out of the box (after tuning it several times). I'm sure there is more that a luthier could do to perfect it for performance quality, but the action is nice and the sound is great as it comes. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this item easy to use |
Answer: | Yes it is a glossy finish |
Question: | Were is it made |
Answer: | Mine didn’t. I ordered a soft case for it for about $25, which works well. |
Question: | Does it have a truss rod |
Answer: | I am a Bass Player that decided for Christmas I wanted to learn to play the Mandolin. This instrument is probably nicer and of higher quality than someone on a whim might purchase. I actually did the setup from you tube which was nothing but aligning the bridge as the strings are shipped in place but relaxed. String height was proper as shipped. I consider it to have a good sound. I have not plugged it up as of yet. |
Question: | is the bridge an arch or flat top |
Answer: | It must be specifically designed for an F style mandolin. I would suggest you order one directly from this Mandolins manufacturer as the ones I have tried that are just a "general" Mandolin case don't have enough room for this instrument to fit properly inside. Also, if you decide to order this Mandolin, it's really a good idea to purchase the insurance that is offered, but that's up to you. Good Luck! |

Question: | Is the warranty through the seller or manufacturer |
Answer: | It does not come with one but I found one on amazon. |
Question: | Is the warranty through the seller or manufacturer |
Answer: | What you are supposed to take off is the clear thin plastic on the pick guard to prevent scratches on the pick guard until the customer gets it. You could leave it on until it peels. As for removing the whole pick guard I did, I put mine on the back of the instrument to create a gap between my body and the back of the instrument. This allows the back of the instrument to vibrate more since the body is not muting the wood thus increasing the volume and tone. Removing it from in front of the f hole also helped the instrument to project more. If you need more volume or want to hear the tone better I recommend putting the pick guard on the back of the instrument as a buffer. It seems odd to do but it clearly works. I may do a video in my review showing how I set mine up. As for the guys saying they would pick right though the wood... I doubt that. the string height on mandolins over the body is so high I don't see how you could hit the wood. It is 3/4'' under the strings. You guys must have a pretty crazy technique to strum or pluck them well and manage to hit wood. Western style acoustic mandolins only have pick guards as decoration. Only low string height ones like the solid body electrics would be needed to prevent body strikes. I think pick guards were more necessary back in the days before wooden instruments were being coated with the strong paints and clear coats they are now. |
Question: | Can you adjust the eight of the strings? I like them to be as low as possible |
Answer: | China |
Question: | What is the difference between the “red” and the “red burst |
Answer: | Richard,Congrats on the purchase, I know you might be a little angry at the moment due to the (lack of) performance of the instrument.Don't sweat it, with a little patience you can make this cheapie mandolin sound pretty darn good.By design these mandolins don't come setup right out of the box - thats probably why they are so cheap. It's tough to say without actually seeing and hearing the problem, but based on your description (thumping, dead, kind of plucky top G) I would have to assume something is wrong with the nut, bridge, or tailpiece. The nut is the white (in your case plastic) piece where the headstock meets the fretboard.Check out the grooves in which the strings sit - if the offending string seems higher or deeper in a groove, thats your problem. If it sits too high (which is what I suspect) take a very thin file, the thickness of the string if you have it, and incrementally remove material from the groove until the string rings true.If it sits too low, you'll need to add material, which can be tricky. I've never done it personally, but I believe if you make a mix of plastic (file shavings - powder) and superglue, it should act as a quick fix to fill the nut, then file it down as needed. If thats not the case, look at the bridge - make sure the strings are in the precut designated grooves of the bridge, and the bridge height is uniform across all of the strings, the bridge is not angled, and lies straight across the top.Lastly, just take the metal tailpiece off and try playing. Sometimes the metal of the tailpiece actually touches the strings and makes them buzz - or worse mutes them. Some mandolinists just chuck the tailpiece, but I prefer to add a piece of cloth or leather where the strings meet the metal.Regardless of the issue, I recommend switching out the Rouge stock strings.I use these on all my mandolins: http://www.amazon.com/DAddario-J74-Mandolin-Strings-Phosphor/dp/B000EEHMXABut strings are a matter of personal preference, so take that with a grain of saltAs you might be able to infer, a lot can go wrong with a mandolin setup, such is the curse of floating bridge instruments. If you find yourself stuck down in the weeds, Rob Meldrum put together a free ebook.Just email him asking about mandolin setup and he'll send it to you for free: [email protected] you aren't comfortable toying with the setup, or just don't have the time, go to your local music shop and ask for a setup. They should be able to take care of all of this for you for about $40ish bucksShoot me another note if you have further questions, this stuff can get a little confusing.Good luck, Matt |
